11/28/15 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Late Eve. Apres Ski Edit under construction below in “Reply” @ 10:00 P.M..

--------------- Orig. Post 7:38 A.M. --------------------

3(*) Open Trails on the freshly chilled Versant Nord, North Side of #Tremblant,

with...

Total Mountain Vertical on Nord, North via P’tit Bonheur to Beauchemin Bas to Duncan Quad

AND... Surprise !!! ...

1(*) Progressive Opening on the Summit Sector of Versant Sud, South Side,
Beauvallon Haut, Upper to TGV quad Chairlift!

Woooooo Hooooooo !

Tremblant Mountain Crews have been very busy overnight and the Open Terrain
is going to be about 300% Larger by the end of the day if everything goes the
way they have planned.

EXPECT SPEED!!!!

Yesterday the Summit got up to +6C, this morning the Summit is at -8C,
so surfaces will be “Fast”.

Obviously, Grooming will be the critical element in the top layers
of trail surfaces, so we’re looking forward to seeing how far Crews have
been able to refine them.

There will definitely be Sweet Spots in the Terrain and there could potentially
be icy zones too, so initial explorations should be conducted at reduced speed
until you confirm safe breaking and steering inputs can be executed with
appropriate immediacy for accident avoidance.

Ski/Board Tuning will be a big advantage for those that have fresh edges
and if not... well, without tuned equipment, there could be a lot less
User-friendly in your day... i.e. ...

Do Not Bring Your Ferrari To The Track With Flat Tires.

For those that have well tuned gear...

Shred This... Carve That...

EXPECT SUNNY!

So far, the sky overhead has BLUE in it, although, there’s still overcast to the west,
at base levels, but with any luck at all, Forcasters and Mother Nature may be on the
same page and we’ll see that big, bright, ball of light in the sky we call the “Sun”
throughout the day.

Under direct Solar Radiation, there may even be some softening, so that
mid-day Opening of Beauvallon could realize some very nice surfaces with
just a hint of Sun-induced Sweet Shred-Carving. Time will tell, it may depend
on the presence or lack of Cloud Cover. When the daytime high is so close to
the freezing mark, in this case, just below, clouds can represent the tipping point
for surface softness by blocking solar energy. In any event, that’s a point for
Apres Ski review.

The thing we like the most in the forecast combination above, is the relatively low
wind speed. Nice temps and Sunny sky’s are great, but when there’s a low wind speed,
they’re really great!

Page under construction. Thanks for your visit, but stop reading this, then goto
Tremblant immediately... It’s time to quit talking about Skiing/Boarding, and actually do it.

want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)

T360 Apres Ski...

Wow... we’d call the Snow Surfaces today a good recovery by #Tremblant Mountain
Crews after yesterday’s + 6C and rain at Summit, to today's -6C at Summit. There
was some ice, but there was a lot more in the way of very shred-able Snow than we
expected after such a wild n’ wet Temp swing.

Plus, they opened two major additions to the available Terrain, Beauchemin Bas on
the Nord, North, right down to the base and the Duncan Quad, and Beauvallon Haut
on the Sud, South, from the Summit down to the TGV Quad Base. More on that shortly...

Lets start with this mornings South Base Level “Big Picture”.

What you are about to see is enough atomized water in the air to create a miniature
localized weather system from Tremblant’s Snowmaking. Considering The Weather
Network’s “Sunny” forecast, this view was a bit different than we expected when we
drove around the corner.

At first, we thought... “Oh well, they got that forecast wrong, but...

a short drive around to the North, a ride up the freshly fired up Duncan Quad
and we stepped into this gem of a scene... (the pic’s above and below are within
about a half hour)

After a good look at this, we concluded that it was primarily the Snowmaking
that was creating the cloud that made the base level views so grey.

At that point we decided to create a new technical weather term to describe
this phenomenon...

“Snovercast”. We define “Snovercast" as when there is sufficient man-made water
particles in the air from the Snowmaking process, to generate localized Overcast
cloud cover.

There are days when natural cloud formations have the same appearance, but the
base level pic at the top of this Apres Ski Report pretty much explains this mornings
cloud and the second pic above shows that there was indeed a lot of Sun above
the range of the Snowmaking guns at virtually the same time.

The Skiing was predictably a shallow, loose machine made granular over a very
solid, even icy base, but that’s very O.K. because “Icy” is way better than “Gone”,
so the rain did not erode things to the point of great loss of coverage. The blown
snow crews were able to get done last night was icing on the cake, so-to-speak,
and the result was a very good, very skiable recovery.

Eventually, the Sun did burn off excess cloud, snowmaking continued, but it
did not have the same sustained cloud formations.

Due to the light wind, the Snovercast floated around on the whim of the breeze.
There were times when things appeared quite clear, then a gentle puff of swirling
Summit air would drop Snovercast around you like this sample below:

Here’s a panoramic, zoomed way out from above, that illustrates that “localized"
Snovercast perspective.

Moving down the newly opened Summit Sector Beauvallon Haut, the
snowmaking made long vision obscure sometimes, but never so much
that your goggles got coated. It was more of a dry snow dust.

The moguls began to take on quite an irregular pattern and we think that was
because there were so many different Skill Level Skiers/Boarders using turning
radius and techniques that were so widely varied within the same space.

No doubt though, that there was a lot of good performance even with quite
a “chunky” mix of surface particle sizes, particularly on Mid Beauvallon, where
the Sun did have an ever-so-slightly softening process started.

For those with the skills...

Neither the Moguls or the Snovercast had any effect on performance!

TOMORROW SIMILAR... Go If You Can!!!

We’ll have quite a bit more from today in the mornings report
as we get a chance to process the pic’s and relate them to
conditions and Terrain development. See you then!
