11/29/15 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Middle of the Night Shift Apres Ski @ 3:00 A.M. EST

It was a Sunny/Snowy, In/Out, Warm/Cool, Sweet/Sour, Up/Down, Yin/Yang,
Kind of Very Fine, Early Season Day at Tremblant...

We begin with this:

The most important point is that for a day forecast to be mostly Sunny
with cloudy periods, particularly on Summit and Nord, North Sectors, it was
quite unexpectedly Snowy, as the photo below shows on Beauchemin Bas(lower).

While the intensity was brief and the accumulation(observed) light, at less
than 1 or 2 Cm’s, it was more than enough to whiten up the background and
more importantly, add a very functional natural coating to some of the Trail
surfaces.

The Surface Quality Skiing Improvements from Overnight Grooming we talk
about expecting in the body of the original post below, were 100% delivered
by Mountain Crews, who did an exceptional job of rendering out both smoothness
and much finer top layer particle sizes. Carving traction and the depth of soft top
layers was so vastly improved that if you skied here yesterday, you might think
you’d been magically transported to a different and better reality today.

One of the most beautiful parts of the whole situation is that tomorrow will likely see
another level of improved refinement over today.

We’re looking forward to that!

A Short Editorial:

Anyone that had any concerns about whether or not there’s enough Open
Terrain to get a good Ski/Board workout will tell you that after a full day
on the November Slopes at #Tremblant, you can quite easily turn your
quad muscles into quivering globs of jello as every ounce of energy is
burned away.

Within our acquaintance by the end of day 3 yesterday, there were a lot
of comments about “Sore Muscles” “Winded” “Kinks”, etc., and the bubbly
enthusiastic chatter of anticipation from Opening Day is not so loud now
as more than a few of us need Apres Ski energy replacement nourishment
and a Cat Nap.

Ahhh, the joys of a new Seasons Start! No matter how many Squats and
Heavy Leg Presses you do in the off-season, nothing places the same demands
of the sport as the actual sport itself and an enthusiastic start is almost always
recognized by dormant muscles in the form of feeling the healthy stress of
re-activation.

The answer... electrolytes and protein... Muscle stress is fine, just make sure
you facilitate recovery and growth with the appropriate nutritional support.

Now back to Tremblant Ski/Board Conditions...

Today is going to be a more refined version of yesterday that will be directly
proportional to the Grooming efforts of Mountain Crews. The new Open Terrain
on Beauvallon Haut(upper) and Beauchemin Bas(lower), is typical of new runs
that have been built with Snowmaking and have a Grooming Machine Granular
top layer with a mixed particle size that goes from about 1, 1/4” or 30mm down
to very fine snow dust, and everything in-between.

Below:
In this Mid-upper Beauvallon shot you can simultaneously see both the carving
capability of the surface, as well as the surface particle sizes as mentioned above.
For Day 1 of this newly opened run, it’s really very good.

That initial Surface responds very well to the incremental refinements of Mountain
Users and daily grooming cycles that all help to break the particles down to smaller
averages and a more even consistency. Today should see some of those effects.

For those anxious to know how Open Terrain expansion is coming along,
these 2 shots below, taken from the TGV while riding up, show activity on
Taschereau, Charron and Desserres, so Crews are moving forward in
developing coverage.

Weather Notes:

Last night saw temps get down to -11C at base levels and todays forecasted
high is for -2C with a Sunny Sky, HOWEVER... It’s been Snowing for several
hours now. The accumulation is light, but all natural snow is most welcome
and if the sun does come out, that will make for a very well rounded day for
a Ski Resort!

The wind at base level is very light too, so the fresh, gently falling snow is
adding a very nice winter look to the area as so far, just enough to be
turning the grey ground to white.

Conditions wise, even a light natural covering helps blend in the Trail Surfaces,
so that’s a nice unexpected bonus for today.

Please Note: The "Snowmaking in progress" icons do not seem to be activated on
the Official Report yet this Season, as there is very active snowmaking going on
over several Trails such as Taschereau and Desserres for two examples that are
not shown here.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
