12/1/15 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Late Eve. Apres Ski Edit Under Construct @ 11:00 P.M.

The Official Snow Report indicated that Snowmaking would be ongoing today,
and perhaps very, very early, before we got there... maybe there was Snowmaking,
but by the time we arrived... it was totally clear.

The Summit Sector Taschereau based descent is basically done in rough
form and all that remains is the Top Layer Dressing to create the Skiable
sized surface granular snow. We’re theorizing that it is possibly left this
way in order to “Dry out” as much of any remaining moisture as possible
to render the most Snow-like results.

The wind was light at Base Levels, and intermittent at the Summit, but the
stunning winter-like scenery remained as picturesque as ever, all day long.

Crowds were non-existent. We spent time actually waiting to see if we could
get some action shots, but got tired of that quickly... who wants to sit around
when the Skiing is this good? Not us.

We did occasionally see other people.

Then, on another occasion, we saw someone else...

Surprisingly, there was more firmness under the top layers than we
had expected, but with fresh edges(as we have), there was no problem.
What it required was a “Sensitive” touch underfoot. Jerky, abrupt, sudden,
or choppy movements just got you slip-sliding. Careful, smoothly applied
control inputs had good traction, but excessive speed was not appropriate.

If you had dull, untuned edges, you would have felt that it was icy.
If you can’t make smooth moves, you would have felt that it was icy.

If your skills have any finesse, if you have tuned edges, you would have been
lapping quickly and safely.

Conditions like these are still fine, but they actually do a lot to make you a
better Skier. The advantages of finesse and sensitive control are totally apparent
in the first 5 turns you make on any pitch, so why fly around with less control
when “Skills” can have you hooked up immediately. To us anyway, there’s only
one answer, safety and control rule the day. Accidents can happen anyway, so why
increase your risks when you can increase your skills and fun?!!!

5(*) Open Trails on South and North Sides of #Tremblant.

Thank Goodness For “North”, as in Latitude...

The Tremblant Advantage.

Considering what’s been going on with warmer than average
weather for the whole North-Eastern Region of the North American
Continent over the last month, the local situation has been just cool
enough to allow a good start for Tremblant Mountain Crews.

One of the most important aspects of this pic. above is the calm water reflection
that indicates the very low wind speed as Snowmaking continues to be the principle
source of Trail Base. Establishing the buildup of Base Quality Snow is a lot
easier when there isn’t a huge wind trying to move it into the bush and much
to the advantage of Mountain Crews, most of the blown Snow is staying right
where it should, on the Trails it’s pointed at.

Above:
Visible in this backlit relief shot, the conversion of finely atomized water
particles into Snow takes place in the out-stream path of the pressurized
flow as velocity slows and the particles congeal/condense in ambient
air temps cool enough to support the process.

Current Snowmaking Technologies rely on this Atomization of Water to minute
particles that can efficiently generate Snow at temps that are basically, right
up to the freezing mark, far warmer values than the Snowmaking of years
gone by. Tremblant has invested heavily in upgrading both the plumbed
permanent water feed on the Mountain, as well as the sophisticated individual
Snow Gun Hardware that is responsible for the quick and large square area of
coverage built so far.

Tremblant Skiers and Snowboarders are enjoying the benefits of that investment now.

Specific Ski/Board Conditions to today...

The “Warm-Wet” spell of 5 some-odd days ago has been all but forgotten
in terms of User-Friendly surfaces by the incremental improvements of
daily Grooming, PLUS, additional snowmaking, PLUS, Natural Snowfall.

Therefore, we are forecasting todays results to be very fine and very fast,
and within the context of this very early point in this very young season,
the best Ski/Board trail surfaces we’ve had so far.

The best Performance Skiing is the lapping circuit utilizing the Duncan
High-Speed Detachable Quad Chair for Ski-on, Ski-off descents on La Crete,
to P’tit Bonheur, to Beauchemin Bas(lower), where we ran training laps yesterday
and managed to do an approximately 9,000 Vertical Ft/Hr descent rate.
The exercise value of that training mode can not be overstated. Due to the
wide open spaces of a weekday, GS Training mode is very safe and we were
not using excessive, reckless or dangerous speed, just a consistent carving flow
focusing on good fundamentals and a steady pace.

Picture taking has been somewhat impractical over the last Snowy/Foggy
blowing snowmaking days, so we hope to have more pic. opportunities today
for Apres Ski. We are happy to have challenging photography conditions
because in the Winter, that usually means great Skiing, and that has
certainly been case for the past two days.

Current Weather Forecast Notes:

We ran this in last night’s Apres Ski and we’re including it here
due to the number of inquiries concerning future Trail status.

Please Note: The “Snowmaking in Progress” Icons are not yet fully activated on
the Official Snow Report yet, however there is very active snowmaking/Terrain
Expansion going on. Two examples are Taschereau and Charron.

Skiers and Snowboarders are very fortunate to have the
right temps and the right Snowmaking capacity at Tremblant
to make the most out of a so-far, mild start to winter. The results are
suburb early season conditions that offer an excellent recreational
and/or athletic/race training environment.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
