Bonus!!! The whole Rope Tow, La Traverse, Rigodon Trails ALL SURPRISE ... OPEN!!!

If we never put another word in here, that one Pic. above would be enough!

In our opinion... Big, Big Game Changer!

No matter what happens with the short term weather, if they can get some of this
packed in A.S.A.P., the base for this area should be solid for the season now(?)
A lot of snow arrived over the Lowell T sector.

This morning at 7:58 we wrote:

"With that direction, there are some sweet drift-in possibilities for the
North Summit Sectors which would be a definite asset for the Rope Tow
Terrain development."

We Got Something Right !!!

The statistical total might be 7, 8 Cm’s or so, but as noted throughout this post,
the drifting factor generated contours as deep as 25 -->> 30 cm’s in a handful of
places and we got the pic’s posted here to prove it.

When it Opened...

Word spread very quickly and in Minutes, Rope Tow was busy, busy.

The Surprise Opening of Rope Tow, et al, did not make it to a revised or updated
Official Snow Report, however, that might be understandable due to the sudden
and maybe unexpected quickness of the fill-in snowfall. Evidently, the Ski Patrol
Certified and Opened this Terrain. There were Ski Patrol Staff at the top of Rigodon
monitoring Guest use.

As a sample of their Opening Conditions, we chose La Traverse and it was
completely typical of its usual start. Keeping in mind that this run is regularly
opened within the first few weeks of the season, its Snowmaking base has been
exposed to the same weather as the rest of the Mountain, so it has what we’d call
a “Solid” core, with not only the Machine Groomed Granular Top Layer, but today’s
all natural snowfall as well. The amount of use combined with its steepness cause
most of the loose coverage to get pushed to the sides, so by the end of the day,
it was very slick in the centre and there was a soft, sort-of powder line down
each side.

If you heard complaints about the slickness in it’s condition, that would have been
from users who do not have the rated “Experts Only” Skills clearly posted at the top
entrance to the sector(as pictured 2nd above.) Observing User Skills for a few minutes
at the top of La Traverse, it was very clear that there were people on it who were
NOT Experts, as they so readily show by slip-sliding sideways most of the way down.

And The South Got Some Too!

Not quite as much, but that was the North’s Drift-in advantage we thought
could happen

The Summit remained Sub-Zero all day and it felt like the North Side did too.

More on the way in the morning, but Tremblant Jumped Back Into Winter!

How long we get to see the trail-side background “White” is a bit of a
“Wild Card” with the temporary warm return over the next 5 days forecasted
but we still think that groomed into the existing base, all the new snow
will not functionally suffer too much. Crews may selectively restrict
some terrain use to preserve it for a return to colder temps just after
Boxing Day, but that’s just a speculation and we could be wrong.

14(*) Open Trails on South, North Sides of #Tremblant.

More Overnight Snow, at least on the ground in the Old Village, adjacent
to the Resort South Base, so we do hope to see that modest dusting on
the Mountain too. Much of it will probably be groomed in, but the White
Background filling in the bush is more than welcome for the cosmetic
benefit of “Winter” and “Christmas” Holiday scenery.

No Matter The Weather, or the background, you can always find the
Colours Of Fun at Tremblant’s Summit!

From A Practical Standpoint...

It will be interesting to see what differences there are today with regard to
the Grooming integration in the Snowmaking Zones. Yesterday, there were
“Terrain Park-Like” Snowmaking contours that required slow and very careful
navigation.

To Be Fair... Tremblant did their due diligence very well in the Locational Trail Posting
and Staffing above those areas to alert Skiers/Boarders of the conditions they would
be encountering.

This shot below is the Trail Posted Conditions Alert and Access Control Point
set up on Beauchemin, just a few metres below the Lowell Thomas Triple Chair
Base Loading Zone.

The Tremblant.ca Official Snow Report states that the entire Skiable Terrain
was Groomed last night, so that being the case, there should be a HUGE
increase in “User Friendly” today that we’ll be very anxious to explore.

As usual... one of the very smoothest places on the Mountain yesterday was
Versant Nord, North Side P’tit Bonheur and this Excellent Surface Performance
so obvious in the sample shot below is what we anticipate finding everywhere today.

Potential New Open Terrain Expansion Sample:

With such late, weather related delays so far this season, there has
been much curiosity regarding future Open Terrain development. This
shot below gives us a very big hint about that on Versant Nord, the North
Side, where Rigodon descends from Rope Tow down to the base loading
zone of the Lowell Thomas Triple Chair.

3 Things RegardingThe Above Photo:

1) Mountain Crews do not like to waste time or resources, so work on
this descent path that requires “Rope Tow’ to access it, indicates Crews
are confident they can get this sector Open right from the Summit, in the
near future.

2) On a busy weekend Sunday afternoon, only about a 3 minute line at
the Lowell Thomas Triple Chair.

3) Look/Scroll Screen Right and you can see the Beauchemin Bas Controlled
Access Point pictured in the second above photo where we were referencing
Crews advising Mountain Users about the Snowmaking Conditions on Beauchemin
Bas(lower). This should all be gone today and Beauchemin Bas should be groomed
as flat as a pancake... we’ll get back to you on that Apres Ski...

Weather Notes:

SNOWING... Snowing... still snowing as we write this over the space of
overnight and this morning. It’s not a blizzard, but it is enough to make a big
jump forward in the “White Winter” look of the whole area. Of course we’re
excited to see how it’s laying on the Mountain, but it will all help for sure.

Temps today forecasted to rise to +1 C at South Resort Base Level, so we’re
projecting that close to the whole vertical will remain sub-zero.

Winds are light to moderate from the Sou-West, so crossing the Summit
from over Soleil sector towards Lowell T.

With that direction, there are some sweet drift-in possibilities for the
North Summit Sectors which would be a definite asset for the Rope Tow
Terrain development.

Even though the temps are supposed to be a couple degrees warmer tomorrow,
we think there’s potential for a similar Summit/North repeat pattern tomorrow?
Can you get the day off??? It could be a good one on the Mountain, even if it is
forecasted drizzle in St. Jovite. At low single digit “+” temp’s we often see favourable
Summit/North conditions.

More later, however with the Grooming reference to the entire Skiable Terrain,
it’s a good candidate for a Vacation Day or Afternoon if you’re a Regional
Tremblant Fan that can wrangle the time off.

want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
