T360 Apres Ski Edit Under construct @ 9:45 P.M.

Two Apres Ski Starting Points...

1) We were Wrong for the Right Reasons....

(More on that below...)

2) It’s Starting To Look Like Winter At Tremblant...

This one speaks for itself...

Back to:

"We were Wrong for the Right Reasons....” We expected that there might be more
grooming integrated Snowmaking terrain, but our arrival was late today, due to...
“Holiday Seasonal Chores”, and it was immediately evident then, that we were wrong,
and there were long tracts of snowmaking that were ongoing with significant
unrefined accumulations in big snowmaking bumps, moguls and loose surface granular.
We can see, for what we now think are the “Right Reasons”... with the madly
rushing Christmas calendar, Christmas itself only 5 days away... why it’s even urgent
for Tremblant to inventory as much Snow as possible for the big Holiday Guest Numbers
and the traffic load represented for the Alpine Snow Sports Open Terrain. The Snowmaking
potentially NEEDS to go on for every second it can.

The Raw Snowmaking Terrain was very difficult for Beginners and Intermediates
and with any significant speed, dangerous for everyone because there was
unpredictable Ice and/or indistinguishable grey-light moguls underfoot that made
control inputs null, unless at a slow, near walking speed.

We felt the best snow in the Snowmaking Zones was on the Outboard Edges,
either side, where the packer ridge acted as a straight, soft, shallow, bump line
and very easy for short-radius or Stem-Christy Old-School Style Mogul Turning
right down the top of the ridge.

Anyway, the Mountain needs every snowflake it can get from every source possible,
so we’re content to have the "Big Bump, Beauchemin(et al) Terrain Park(s)!"

The Ski Patrol and Prevention/Safety Crews were controlling speed and access,
thankfully, because there was a lot of “Speed” and with some of those “Speedy”
people, not a lot of “Skills”, so any emergency stopping/steering for them would
be practically... impossible, or close to it.

Make Sure This Scene Is Not For You...

With All the Snowmaking and Trail Development going on,

It Is Critical that you...

Ski/Board with appropriate respect and
low speed for Traffic and Conditions...

The Ski Patrol out doing Field Practice, so that if You have an Accident, they are
fully up-to-date on current First Responder Knowledge, Technique and Skills.
Of course the best thing is to go carefully in a manner that does not need them,
but if you do, it’s sure good to know they are there.

15(*) Open Trails on South, North Slopes at #Tremblant.

More Snow, More Quality.

The Stat’s say another 7 Cm’s, but what we’re more concerned with is
how the wind rendered the deposits on the Mountain with the unique
attributes of blowing and drifting over topography, contours, tree sheltered
trail sides, etc. Our mission for today is to “Research” that info.

The whole Mountain got snowed on yesterday. This Upper Nansen shot
was typical of the very much winter feel of the day from noon onward.

Generally speaking...

More Snow, More Quality, Better Skiing, Better Boarding... It’s that Simple.

Flake by flake, we’re getting to Winter. There may be more hiccups along
the way, but whats happening at Tremblant is that whatever makes it to the
ground and gets groomed in... stays.

The basic trail infrastructure put in place has remained serviceable throughout
all the recent weather, no doubt with effects, but Mountain Crews can work with
almost any natural glitches, as long as the base is still intact, so “Icy” is way better
than “Gone” when it comes to retaining/restoring/refreshing Open Terrain.

All the New Natural, All the New Snowmaking, All the Efforts of the Night Shift...
More Quality, Better Skiing, Better Boarding.

When you’re doing this all day at Tremblant, you’re having a good day...

When this is how things look at Last Run, you can guess you’ll be having
a pretty good day tomorrow...

.... and “Tomorrow” is now today...

With a whole bunch of New Snow from Natural and Blown, as well as
an overnight Grooming Refinement Cycle, we expect today to be a New
“Best Of Season”... so far.

Weather Notes:

Sunny and Cool! Winter! Starts out at -8C, moving up under a sunny sky to -4C
at South Base Level, so the Summit may not see more than -8 C all day. The
wind is forecast at moderate speed starting West, over Taschereau, then swinging
South, from over the Soleil sector, so a “Bundle Up” mode is advisable all day.

Localized Snowmaking may generate reduced Vision issues. Slow down Before
entering those areas.

----------------- Conditions Caveat ------------------

Realistically speaking, there are naturally occurring hazards within
the Open Terrain due to weather factors outside human control.
It’s no secret that the entire East Coast of North America has been
warm and wet this fall, so we’re lucky to be skiing/boarding with the
quality we have, but those warm, wet circumstances have rendered an icy
base that can become exposed with daily traffic wear. Moguls of
irregular shape get formed in a days use, and natural debris including
but not limited to, wood, brush, or rocky bits, can and do get stirred up
to the surface, however minor they may be. Snowmaking, Limited forward
Vision, and Early Season Narrower Trail Widths are also factors you will encounter.

Navigate with reduced speed and cautious observation before ripping around
and stay within your realistic Skill Level Rated Terrain with particular attention
to Hand Posted Signage, trail placed by the Ski Patrol.

Do not assume anything, and be ready to stop, change direction or otherwise
avoid hazards with speed that is always under complete control with all due
care and consideration for traffic around you.

------------------- End of Caveat --------------------

Three Weeks of “OPEN” at Tremblant reflect the painstaking efforts of Mountain
Crews working 24 hours a day to overcome Weather challenges that have kept
many Local/Regional Ski Areas “Closed”.

The Net Result is that we have the privilege of Skiing/Boarding what might
arguably be some of the best East Coast Conditions anywhere.

Yes, there are Weather induced limitations, but the relative quality is very good
and we are very, very grateful for every metre of Open Trail and all the fun
and early season conditioning we’ve gotten so far.

When your Regional Options are very limited... Count on Tremblant to
offer the most Open Terrain possible.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
