17(*) Open Trails on the Snow Refreshed Slopes of South, North Sides at #Tremblant.

A Brief and Early Christmas Present For Some Lucky Tremblant Fans!

After the Surprise Opening of Lowell Thomas Sector Rope Tow,
For about 20 to 30 minutes, delighted Tremblant Fans got a very
sweet taste of “Winter” as they discovered the Snow Drift Lines
(some of them up to 25-30cm’s deep)that ran under the Lowell T
Triple Chair, over the first pitch below the Summit.

Above: Repeat from last eve’s Apres Ski, just because it’s such a rare type
of Action Pic. for us to get, and in the middle of a “Warm” introduction
to the season too.

It did not take long for this zone to be discovered by eager Snow Hounds
on Boards, Skis and Telemarker’s.

There will always be “Stat’s Freaks” who are preoccupied with only “Total
Snowfall” numbers, and as important as that is, it’s not the only thing to
judge either performance or enjoyment on because of wind-shaped Drifting
that creates unique deposits of far greater amounts over and around
topographical contours. Yesterday was Classic example with a recorded 8cm’s
but localized drifting close to 30 cm’s in the areas pictured above.

It’s always thrilling to find deposits of soft, deep, natural snow and we felt
lucky to have been there at the right moment to get these rare Powder Busting
Action shots.

Once the Powder got Skied out, that left the rolling contours and at any speed
they acted as ramps for all kinds of Airborne Activity...

The Snow was falling quite heavily all day. It was extremely difficult to keep
the camera lens clean with swirling snow flying into it constantly. The rate of
good pic/bad pic was 50/50 at best and a lot of what we hoped would turn out,
ended up with giant Snow-smear blurred and unusable images. This is what we
call a “Happy Problem” at a Ski Resort!

We called this snowfall a “Game Changer” in last nights Apres Ski and we think
that will remain a fair assessment even though the temp’s are forecasted to
burp way up in the next 4/5 days. A big addition of Snow anytime directly
benefits the packed and groomed base, regardless of what weather follows
and if we are right on this one, then the base just got a substantial boost
in a season that’s been low on natural snow for the whole Eastern half
of North America so far.

Weather Notes:

Today... +3 C, and Overcast with light drizzle that could be Snow at
Mountain Elevations?

Conditions Notes:

Things start out very smoothly every morning but with the traffic
concentrated onto the existing Open Terrain, steeper pitches, Trail
Narrowing's, Intersections and Run-outs can all exhibit mogul formations
and/or slick, icy centres.

This is one of the reasons we were so overjoyed to see all the new Snowfall
as it has resulted in additional Open Terrain that should help to spread out
the traffic load. As that happens, the daily wear factors should become
far less concentrated.

In-so-far-as daily sub-zero’s help stabilize the base from thermal loss, they
also create a very firm or icy substrate, so Tuned, Fresh Edges on Skis or Board
are essential for optimal safety and performance.

"Do Not Take Your Ferrari To The Track With Flat Tires.”. i.e. :
Do Not Take Your Skis/Board To ANY Eastern Ski Resort with dull edges.

There’s lot’s of Great Skiing/Boarding for all Skill Levels. For sure, extra time
may be necessary to work around some the naturally occurring glitches
that come with mild weather, but we’re still very thankful for the Quality
here at Tremblant when there are still some locally regional Ski areas closed.

The main summary point for today relates to the significant benefit the Snowfall
of the last 48 Hours represents to all Tremblant Ski/Board Fans. It also needs to
be specifically stated that it’s a big asset to Mountain Crews who now have considerably
more “Raw Material” to work with moving forward with near-term expansion of
Open Terrain for the Holiday Season and onwards.
