T360 Early Apres Ski Edit, under construct @ 7:00 P.M.
Absolutely Unexpected and Totally Awesome Conditions Day at #Tremblant!
It was one of those...
“Youwouldntbelieveusunlessyouwerehere.Excellent.Surprise.Dayz"
When it was visible... The Scenery was Spectacular!!!
When it was not visible, it was because it was Pure, Pea Soup Cloud Fog that swirled
around the Summit all day long...
But NONE of that had anything to do with the totally surprising level of
lateral Carving Grip that was nothing short of Astounding! The Spring-like
Soft Snow Surfaces were able to hold almost ANY amount of Extreme Carving
angle with complete and utter reliability, and our recently tuned 11Metre Radius
Slalom Race Skis spent the whole day in...
“Stand on ’em Sideways Mega-Shred.WOW.Mode"!
In an attempt to understand this very fine performance that we were not
expecting to find to that degree, we can only theorize, and in that process
what we think is that there is just enough frost underneath to support the
almost perfect balance between softness in the top layers and resilience in
the base.
We can’t guarantee conditions will be exactly the same tomorrow, indeed there will
no doubt be differences just because of the forecasted Up-Burp in the Temps., but...
based on observations, we think there’s still enough “Cool” in and under the trail surfaces
to bridge us to the return to Sub-zero’s in about 40 hours from now. We think there’s
enough coverage to keep the Open Trail count up too.
We also think our Waxed for Warm Ski Bases contributed to our performance
today. Disrupting any wet suction resistance certainly gave us the feeling of
very good “Glide” today, so much that we could not feel any sensations of
being held back what-so-ever.
The only functional drawback today was vision in the cloud. If you review the
top photo in this Apres Ski above, you can see the cloud swirling around
and there were moments when that picture was impossible as we stood there
waiting for it. Above this point in the Mountain’s Vertical, it was almost a wall
of Cloud fog. On the North, as picture below over Lowell Thomas Sector Trail
Rope Tow, the Cloud Fog prevailed almost all the way down.
Due to the warmth, Yellow Lens glasses instead of goggles, would have been near
perfect to restore contrast.
Another Tremblant Utility Upgrade...
...and a Big, Big Traffic related Problem Area, totally and completely FIXED!
The recent 4/5, however many days, has had various levels of concern expressed
about the Mogul Field on Beauchemin at the upper entrance level to the Edge
Sector. Tremblant themselves had staff located there a couple of days ago,
restricting access and warning people about that zone, before they were allowed
to enter...(we ran pic’s 12/20, 12/21, if you look back in our daily files here.)
PROBLEM FIXED... and with a very simple, very effective solution too...
Below:
They widened Beauchemin to practically the full trail width with banked snow
and WOW... no more moguls after a full day! It seems as though just eliminating
the traffic restriction and allowing almost double the trail width in this section
has taken off all the turning stress on the surface. After a full day of busy Mountain
Holiday Traffic, at 3:45 P.M., “Last Run”, it was impressively flat, smooth and FAST!,
with excellent carving edge hold.
Summary:
Tomorrow’s brief, but big temp spike may or may not necessitate Temporary changes
to the Open Trail list for the protection/preservation of sensitive portions of the snow
coverage for reasons we are not aware of.
So, We could be wrong, but we still think tomorrow’s going to retain a good measure
of that sweetness we had today.
If it’s half as good tomorrow as it was today, it should
still be great!
So, if you can escape for the day at Tremblant... DO IT!!!
(...but just to be safe, check the Tremblant.ca Official Snow Report
to confirm detail first.)

More Weather Drama!
Basically, “April” Skiing for three days in December!
Sunny Afternoon Forecast Today!
And if it is... it should look like this... nice, soft, easy to train on, or navigate!
Soft Snow is going to be unavoidable for the next few days as the “Laws Of Physics”
exert their influence on the base with a shot of Thermal energy that will span
diagonally from Alaska to Florida and the Caribbean, and all points in-between.(**)
Obviously, there’s not a damn thing we can do except enjoy April type Skiing in December.
We do not think this will effect the existing, very well packed, Alpine Ski/Board
Open Trial Network much. It is a relatively brief Spike in Temps that should be
easily withstood by the solidly established Base.
“Winter” Officially started at 11:48 P.M. on December 21st., roughly 36 hours ago
and since then the very winter-like day we had on the 21st, has sadly become
a cosmetic memory.... but... it has not passed without a very real benefit. All
the new Snow got Packed into the base, so while we’ll certainly see a different
look in the bush, around town, on the Golf Courses.... the precious contribution
to the strata of the Skiable Base is going to play a significant role in bridging us
forward to the return of Seasonal temps in 3 or 4 days.

Compared to Statistical Averages
Reds-Hotter, Yellows-Warmer, Greens-Normal, Blues-Colder.
A Note Of Historical/Research Perspective.
Tremblant Trip Planners(^) of the future need to be reminded that “Averages”
are calculated from the highs and lows of any statistical data reference and
this season’s start has been an anomaly of “Warm”. Sooner or Later, all trip
planners experience travel weather that’s not ideal, a Hurricane on your Fall
Caribbean Cruise, Rain on your Phoenix Arizona Golf Week in January, Cool,
Overcast on your “Spring Break” week in Fort Lauderdale... etc., etc..
All we can say is that “Global Warming” notwithstanding, booking a Fall/Early
Winter Ski Holiday 6 months or even a year ahead relies on the faith of “Averages”,
and we frequently re-enforce the concept that the odds in favour of Average or
better, usually go together with “North” as in Tremblant’s Latitude. So, even in a year
of warmer than average, looking around at the Regional Competition, Tremblant
has been Open for a Month, with good Skiing/Boarding, technically speaking,
while many close-by areas have far fewer or closed altogether trail networks.
We like to say... “Thank Goodness For “North”, things could be a lot worse!"
((^) or any other Travel Destination for that matter.... )
For Upcoming Tremblant Trip Planners:
It should also be noted that this transitional Fall/Winter pattern is not necessarily
indicative of how the rest of the season will be either. For example, a slightly warmer
than average January would actually put Tremblant in a More Favourable Natural
Snow position because it would bring us up a wee bit closer to Mother Natures own
best Snow making temps., so there is some probability we could see more than
average Snowfall as a consequence.
Bottom Line on these Weather Points:
The Weather will do what the Weather does... Tremblant Guests have the benefit
of “North” and Mountain Crews that have the Experience and the Resources to make
the very best possible Ski/Board conditions out whatever Mother Nature delivers.

Snowmaking and Lift Status for December 23rd, 2015, Courtesy of Tremblant.ca
Page under Progressive assembly. Wax or Coat Ski/Board Bases with a “Warm”
range material for optimal Glide capability. Pervasive Moisture underfoot creates a
form of suction that inhibits glide and release from the surface, so any Hydrophobic,
i.e., “Water Repellant” coating will be a huge asset.
