Generally, the new snow enhanced all the surfaces.

There was good carving in a number of sectors.

----------- Conditions Caveat ---------------

Mountain User Traffic Density, Proximity and Conditions Awareness Notice:

Tremblant Conditions today were a complex mix from fine to very difficult, often
within a few metres. They started out smooth enough, however with the traffic
concentrations on the Open Terrain, wear factors came into play a bit sooner than
we thought might happen.

The new snowfall of last night helped, but sheer volume, i.e., the number of Sunday
Holiday Skiers and Boarders all descending over a limited amount of Open Terrain
quickly revealed some slick/icy trail centres and the difficulty levels evolved equally
quickly in those areas.

Another clearly identifiable wear pattern appeared on some trails in the form of
a Washboard effect of laterally crossing ridges, sequentially quite close. Speed
was critically important in these zones as any significant velocity over these
ramp-like ridges was enough to toss you airborne. Most were reasonably visible
on the approach, but there were some shadowed grey light, low contrast zones
where they could not be seen a safe distance ahead for the speed people were
going and there were mishaps as a result.

In our opinion, we don’t think there was anything that Mountain Crews could have
done differently in terms of trail prep., it’s just one of those situations where the
overwhelming hand of Mother Nature’s recent and very dramatic record setting high
temps over all of Eastern North America have left their mark in the form of an icy base
after the return to Sub-Zero’s.

Tremblant Info. Crews, Prevention Crews and Ski Patrol were all out in force doing
their best to direct passing Guests to proceed only if their skills were expert and
clearly advising them of conditions including hazards. Observation farther down the
trails showed some people were definitely on terrain over their skill levels. We are
mentioning this because one of our group was hit from behind through no personal
fault by an out of control individual and we witnessed several other similar incidents,
so we want to urge awareness and encourage active 360 degree scanning whenever
traffic seems to be building around you. If you experience any “Close Calls”, pull over
trail-side and let the traffic bubble move past you.

This is a legitimate Safety issue whenever Holiday traffic density warrants
Proactive Accident Avoidance. Go Safely and be aware of your surroundings
including others moving nearby.

While many Regional Ski Areas struggle to Open or have even one or two trails
available, Tremblant has been successfully opening, maintaining and expanding
these huge boulevards of Open Terrain.

Regular readers are tired of hearing it, but it’s the truth anyway, and new Tremblant
Fans and Guests need to know that the North Side, Summit Sector Trail P’tit Bonheur
seems to have a “Cloaking Device” just as good as any Star Trek theme that keeps it
in very close to optimal condition, no matter what’s going on in the rest of the Ski World.
Yesterday was no exception as the feedback we got all day remarked on its comparatively
fine condition and today’s new snow should see it very fine indeed.

Every day is an excellent day to learn here...

The new snowfall is a fine, light and dry crystal that is going to have excellent
“Fill-In” quality over the existing Machine Finished, Blown Snow Base.

Consequently, we’re expecting a significant increase in the ease of use.
Control inputs for Steering, Braking, Stopping, Turning should all be both
a lot easier and far more consistent over the entire range of Open Terrain.

We think that this positive difference is going to be due to the addition of
an effective cover over the icy substrates, the cushion effect over those
same substates and the overall greatly enhanced traction created by the
ability of the new snow to adhere to the base through the “Fill-In” qualities
we described above.

Weather Notes:

Snowing... with a beginning temp @ -1C, South, Resort Base Level. Over the
course of the day those temps should drop to about -3C by Last Run.
Winds are forecast to be from the North at moderate speed, so crossing
the Summit from La Crete towards the big communications tower. The Snow
may cease around noon and there may even be partial clearing and a peek
of sunshine mid-to-late afternoon. Very easy early winter to dress for.
