Considering that this scene was primarily “Brown” 48 hours ago...

Wow... That’s a LOT Of Snow!

We have seen two Recorded Snowfall Statistics for this storm, one at 30 cm’s,
the other at 33 cm’s. Be that as it may... we are far more interested in how
the Wind shaped the snowfall around the Mountains topographical features
in combination with the layout of the Alpine Snow Sports Trail Network.

Blizzard as it was, it was accompanied by strong winds that had sufficient
force in a few places to move falling snow right across wide open Trail surfaces
and that left some wind exposed pitches, crests or previous icy patches that were
slick or icy(**).

((**)Compared to the total Open Acreage, they were small, but if you hit one
at enough speed, loss of control could happen in literally an instant. Compounding
potential negatives from hitting a Slick or Icy patch is the busy Holliday Travel Crowd
in attendance. Loss of control at high speed when there are a lot of innocent folks
out for the day is very dangerous, and it's a direct violation of the Mountain User Code
of Conduct.)

That same Wind force, also created Back-fill vortices that deposited snow in larger
depths than the stat's total. We indicated in yesterday’s post that with this type
of wind there could be benefits to the narrower tree lined trails. The pic.
below of Nord, North “Andy Moe” is a good example.

There was some Chair Lift Debate that this might be the largest single Snow Storm
accumulation in some 2 or more years.

We’re not sure, we don’t have that Stat., but regardless... There’s a TON of New
Snow at Tremblant!

Enough to jump the Open Trail Count up to 27(*) today and we predict... it could
be upwards approaching 40 by a week from now after all the Snow Dust settles
on the integration of this current snowfall, additional snowmaking, plus... any more
new fresh natural snowfall that just happens to come our way in the next few days.
We could be wrong, but just observing all the hard work being put in by Mountain
Crews, plus this New Snowfall, certainly indicates to us that there will be more Open
Trails coming soon.

FYI... There was enough Snow to warrant the Ski Patrol to open Sissy Schuss
from the Gagnon Side Door for a while yesterday afternoon.

More on all this and other Terrain News, later...

Weather Notes:

Warmer, up to -4C, Overcast and Snowing for the next 4 days. Moderate to
Strong winds, mostly Westerly, so we’ll have to wait to see how its falling
and filling, but Lowell Thomas Sector could get the Lee-Side advantage
in outright accumulations.

------------------- Conditions Caveat ----------------

Deep, Fresh Natural Snowfall takes from 1 to 3 or 4 days of Grooming and
packing to fully integrate to ideal density and distribution. Initially, this Deep
Snow can present extra challenge To All Skill Levels. Soft top layers may break
into tracked, uneven surfaces of highly variable forward resistance that can cause
skis or board to rapidly decelerate while momentum carries the Upper Body forward.
Mogul formations that can increase in size towards end-of-day are common.
Wind Drifted Snow of irregular depths over ground contours may conceal firm or icy
substrates of equally irregular, but hidden shapes.

Caution and reduced speed in accordance with the Ski/Board Code Of Conduct
is essential to avoid accidents.

Integration of All The New Snow should show effects from this morning, through the
next 3 to 4 days as Mountain Crews work forward from the Green’s up.

Extra patience in both progress and rest periods will be assets in any descent
as abundant, fresh, deep snow, presents challenges for all skill levels.
