Last Run, Fuddle Duddle Bas, Lower, at Runout to Expo Quad Base.

The whole North Side remained under direct Snowfall of these quite
obvious big, fat, somewhat damp Snowflakes, practically speaking, for the
whole “Open” day. On the Groomed Terrain, no doubt they made a meaningful
contribution to Ski/Board conditions in at least Grip. On the Un-groomed, they
added “Traction” to any previously Slick Bits.
A quick trip on the Duncan Quad to the Summit put you squarely into the Snowcloud
itself. Surprisingly, vision was not as much of a problem as we thought it could be.
There was a snowy sort of plaster over goggle lenses that varied with the shifting winds,
but it was easy to swipe off with gloved hand, so it never held you back.

We chose to descend on the long, easy, Green side of Nansen for the sake of
reporting that may be useful to Beginners and up. We specifically say “Beginners
and up”, because Nansen is utilized by All Skill Levels, all day, and while it is
ideally suited to those new to Winter Alpine Snow Sports, you’ll find Experts
here too. They may be practicing subtle control moves, teaching friends, or
even cruising easy to take a muscle break during a long, vigorous day.

The Quality Goes In, and since 1939, Nansen goes on. This amazing Tremblant
Original Trail is a Masterpiece of simple, gentle, wide and accommodating terrain
that has set standards of Learning Excellence for the past 77 Seasons it’s been Open.
Our experience there today confirms Nansen’s in Very Fine Shape today and
we expect it will remain that way from now on.

The Fresh Snowfall Keeps On Piling Up. Another Addition This Morning.
Weather Notes:
We’ve looked at several different sources and it seems as though
the daytime high temp forecast has been lowered by a couple of
degrees to +3C, so at cooler Mountain Elevations, it’s possible
the Summit and much of the North could remain below zero all day.
The current Weather Models suggest that it may primarily be snowy
during the day and rainy this evening, but as temps fall after sunset,
the probability may increase of it being Snow on the Mountain... Maybe.
Winds today... moderate Southerly, so crossing the Summit from over the
Soleil Quad Summit, towards Nansen.
The Realities may be different, but at this close to zero we do not think there
will be any significant effect on Snow Surfaces depending on the form and
rate of precipitation. Obviously, if it rained a lot, that would not be good, but
there’s a chance, small or large not yet determined, that at these temps,
there could be Snow in the extended mix too.
Conditions Notes:
We have featured quite a bit of North Coverage recently as the Natural Snow
Accumulations, Snowmaking, and Grooming have all synergistically favoured
a very quick and high quality development of Groomed surfaces.
Duncan Widening Utility Notice:
One refinement in particular, the widening of Duncan, at and just below, the
crest of the Summit Sector Upper Pitch, deserves special attention for it’s
simple brilliance that adds a very tangible amount of “User Friendly” to this
previously narrow, high traffic concentration zone. This is a Finishing Touch
type of utility upgrade that is worth it’s weight in Gold because it makes this
whole access point to the fine Open Terrain below a lot easier and safer, to get to.
The Crest itself, as all crests are, can still be icy sometimes, but it’s the ease below
that point due to the extra width you traverse over, that makes the long Descent
on Duncan’s Upper Pitch way, way easier.

Looking Down Duncan, the old dimension was to the Left of the small Tree Stand,
and as you can see, it’s now running straight down to the right, allowing a far wider
pie-shape to this descent, all the way down.

Versant Sud, South Side, Nansen Bas(Lower), is back on the Open List and with Grooming
Icon too, so we will make every attempt to get there today for an Apres Ski Pic. review
on this critically important component of the total Nansen Summit-To-Base descent path.
Yesterday we wrote about the “Split Personality” at Tremblant as a
summary way to keep in mind the differences between the immaculate
and very finely Groomed Open Terrain and the Not-Always-So-Immaculate
Un-Groomed Open Terrain and we expect those differences to remain
largely the same today.
----------------- Conditions Caveat --------------------
The Un-Groomed Expert Open Terrain has Natural Hazards
of Rocky and Brush Debris that are unavoidable at times.
At other times, hazards are avoidable if speed is low enough
to permit navigation past these zones. So... depending on your
attitude towards Ski or Board Base upkeep, go accordingly
slow if you want to avoid damage.
