T360 Early Apres Ski Edit @ 6:15 P.M.

We finally get to Devils River... and that’s when the fun begins...

Standing at the upper Devils River entrance, the visual in front of you looks
almost like a Terrain Park Module Line made from Blown Snow.

There is actually a small drift-in on its extreme right hand(descending)side, where
quite a bit of the gradually accumulating natural snowfall has built up over the
past several nights. This soft, easy to turn on trail border offers an option for
those not wanting to ride the up’s and down’s of the trail centred Bumps.

The Big Snowmaking Bumps on Devils River are irregular in both height and
circumference, but they are all completely smooth and actually very easy to
navigate with a slow speed and an assertive edge set on the bump downsides.

If you Ski Devils River at a moderate, well controlled pace, it’s not
difficult to establish a pleasant rhythm on the Big Bumps that some
people would maybe even call “Fun”!

Some of the Bumps have downside slick patches, but sensing them is going to be
somewhat dependant on skis or board edge sharpness because they are not all
that icy, so good edge grip will get you over them without drama.

When you stand anywhere on Devils River mid-point plateau, you realize
just how big a space Mountain Crews had to fill in with snowmaking, which is why
it took a few days perhaps.

The lower Run-Out portion of Devils River has a bit of Mogul formation on the left
descending side, but the bumps in the centre there are same soft composition
as the ones above, so very smooth to turn on.

At some point in the near-future, Devils River will likely be Groomed Flat and
when that happens, as it always seems to, it will be a superbly smooth Carvers Paradise.

The Groomed Terrain is in Excellent shape, however the statement in the Orig.
Post Below regarding “Split Personality” still applies to the relationship of the
that Groomed Open Terrain to most of the Un-Groomed Open Terrain, Apres Ski today.

More in the Morning, but the temps are forecasted to reach +3 or 4 C, with
chance of precipitation that could be Snow or Rain. If it Snows... the Cooler,
Elevated North Summit Sectors have the best chance, and they could get
a bunch.

T. B.A.(*) Open Trails at #Tremblant, Subject To Morning Confirmations.
Please Note:(**) @8:30 A.M. The Official Tremblant.ca Snow Report appears to be
temporarily off-line. The stated Reason is Site Maintenance. This is most unusual.
Statistically, in almost a decade of monitoring this data, we can only recall maybe
one other off-line incidence.

Our rough Guesstimate of the Open Trail Count would be 60(*) +/-,
based on the current rate of Snowmaking, Natural Snow Accumulations
and Grooming Trail Development.

Supposed to Be... Forecast... “Sunny” and daytime high @ -1C, South Base Level.

Another “Best Of Season” day for Friday? ... We’ll just have to see, won’t we!

But... you’re going to be able to do this all day(with or without Sunshine?),
if you want...

Above and Below:
These Two Versant Nord, North Side shots of Black Diamond Trail, “Jasey J Anderson”,
on it’s Opening Day for the Season, are indicative of the general trend in Terrain
Opening at Tremblant right now. What we see is that Mountain Crews are building
base with Snowmaking over the natural snow on un-opened trails and adding them
when complete, while at the same time, refining currently open trails with overnight
grooming and additional snowmaking where necessary.

One of the challenges we see for Mountain Crews is coping with the rather
sudden and heavy recent natural Snowfall in order to get it worked into a
durable base. The very warm fall season had delayed the normal base production
process to a degree prior to the "Big One” Blizzard, back at the end of December,
so there is a lot of “catching up” to do now.

The Night Shift has been very busy doing that and the results speak for themselves
in the current All-Day surface quality we’re experiencing within all skill level rated
Groomed Terrain.

The sheer volume of Natural Snow back when, did allow a fair number of
Un-Groomed, Experts Only, Trails to Open, however the number of natural
hazards that can affect Ski Bases has kept us from exploring much of it.
Our 11 Metre turning radius, dedicated Slalom Race Skis are not designed for
Bushwhacking, so until some of the Un-groomed becomes Groomed, we’ll be
cautiously watching, and listening to those with the “Rock Skis” who are not
worried about hazard damage to let us know how that Terrain is. So far, all
the reports we’ve gotten as well as the visual confirmations while riding the lifts,
support the conclusion that the Un-Groomed is lots of fun to explore, but
Ski base damage is somewhat probable due to either rocky or brush debris.

One feedback comment we overheard riding up the Duncan Quad a couple of days
ago summed the Un-groomed Open terrain up as... “It’s like Skiing Tremblant was
back in the 1970’s!” Objectively speaking, that may not too far off the truth, for those
who were here then and can remember. But... if that was indeed the case, then we have
so much to be thankful for in the current technologies used for Snowmaking and
Grooming, because where Trails are Opened with a foundation of Snowmaking and
Grooming, initial quality is frequently better on day one, than we would have seen in a
whole season on some of these Trails back in the 1970’s.

The Bottom Line on Conditions ...is that Tremblant currently has a “Split Personality”,
the "Extraordinary Consistency Of Quality" of all Beginner, Intermediate and
Expert Groomed, versus the “Anything Goes” hazard prone nature of the Un-groomed,
Experts Only.

Weather Notes:

Supposed to be “Sunny”... again... but currently light overcast with hints of Blue
if you look straight up.

Daytime high temp @ -1 C, South Resort Base Level, so the Mountain should
remain nicely below zero all day. Frankly, we’d be happy to see the sun stay muted
because of the potential solar energy exposure this close to zero. We may see
some softening on South and Soleil Sectors anyway.

Wind velocities are forecasted to be Moderate to Strong and from the Sou-East,
so moving across the Summit from Duncan towards TGV. At least at this warmer
temp., they’ll be fairly easy to deal with.

Unfortunately, the Daytime High Temps in the forecast for Sunday have jumped up
to + 5 C and some rainy bits. We’ll have to wait and see how it all develops.
Could they be wrong?

The Big Story at Tremblant continues to be Newly Opening Terrain Development
through the combination of Snowmaking and recent, abundant Natural Snowfall.

Spend a day on the Slopes of Tremblant and you’ll see evidence on all 4 corners
of work being conducted throughout the Alpine Snow Sports Trail Network.
