86(*) Open Trails on All 4 Sides Of #Tremblant.

(Please Note Delayed/Extended Construction of todays topic
due to out of office Logistical Support Day)

We want to review the “Summary” picture for last eve.’s Apres Ski
because we have a “Context” reference we want to add for a specific reason.

Here’s the pic...

Within the Pic above, there are a range of Conditions that vary from what a
Confident Intermediate could safely try, to those that demand truly Expert Skills.
We try to go to great length in these topics to reference Terrain Reviews with
all sorts of “Actual Skill Level” discussions about either the suitability of the
Skiers Skills being matched to the Terrain, or the Skiers Actual Skill Level as
related to the Feedback about the Terrain.

We were accused of being too “Positive”(**), and in this case, as well as others
more often than not, we think that may be because we can’t write effectively
enough about the Actual Skill Level required, as opposed to the realities of the
Actual Skill Levels using the Terrain.

The point is... if you stand trail-side taking Pic’s for a few minutes at a time,
you’d realize there are a lot of Intermediates on Duncan which is a Black Diamond
rated Trail, and just about all of those Intermediates are going to have a far
different opinion of the conditions here than this person pictured below...

Immediate Zoom-in on the Skier from above...

This Beautifully Talented and Very Evidently “Expert” Skier is far more likely to
make or support a Positive reference to conditions here than the Intermediate,
but the Intermediate is far more likely to express negativity or disagree with us
about the review with their own assumption that the opinion they have is valid,
simply because they tried it and could not handle it well.

If we give a Positive Feedback, it’s because that feedback is clinically appropriate
for the Actual Skill Level Required/Posted and we would challenge anyone who
disagrees, to be observed by any Credible Independent Third Party, of both of us
taking a run on that Terrain to compare Skill Levels and the legitimacy of the feedback,
either way.

Then, to further complicate things, there are...

“Expert” at "Some Things", but not at "All Things”...

and/or “Skills” Versus “Preferences”(**)

(**)The person who accused us of the “Pollyanna”, too positive POV is known to us
and has some solid Expert Skills, but “Prefers” Icy-free surfaces and because they
avoid those conditions, is not necessarily an “Expert” at dealing with them on the fly
as part of their Skills repertoire. So when there’s a bit of “Icy” in the mix, their Skills
can actually be more "Intermediate-like”. This individual also does not like and avoids
deeper fresh snowfall and clearly states a preference for “Groomers”.

This examination of Sample Conditions(pic’s above and below) looks at the
descent path from the Summit entrance of Duncan down to, and including Devils River.
None of the Skier/Boarders seen are directly related to this conversation, they just
happened to be there when Snap Shot(s) taken.

Below is a Devils River sample for Board People.
Basically, within the scope of the currently Groomed Terrain,
you can do this all over Tremblant right now.

What we think is important here is that there are no Chunks coming out
of the Board Shred. It’s all Snow, Fine, Dry, Crystalline Granular and in
this spot, like the vast majority, not a speck of Icy underfoot.

We spent an entire ride up the Duncan Quad with Boarders talking
about their experience and the main take-away is that there is sufficient
speed in the surfaces to carry over almost all of the plateaus without
having to take a foot out.

Other Sample Trail Updates:

La Griffe is in Fine Shape. The odd small slick or icy bit, but generally
in wonderful condition considering it’s only been Open for a few days.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
