T360 Apres Midnight, Apres Ski @12:30 A.M.
Almost Everything You Need To Know About Today Is Conveyed By This Picture...
Excellent!
More in the Morning, but looking forward to another Very Fine Winter Day.

80(*) Open Trails on the Snow Refreshed 3 Sides of #Tremblant.
Mountain Crews Are strategically adding Snowmaking to the Edge Sector
and several Trails as noted below in the Archival Trail Data. Those areas are
closed today and represent the difference in the Open Trail Count From Yesterday.
The Durability of the Base for the balance of the projected season’s length
requires this type of forward planing, so when the combination of Weather
Factors and the pre-existing foundation create the best opportunities we can
understand the necessity of doing this now and we see it as a very temporary
situation with long-term utility benefits.
Moving Forward...
Learn This.
You can if you want to, at Tremblant...
This "Ecole Sur Neige”, Tremblant Ski School Instructor is demonstrating a Classic
Approach towards an Experts Descent Strategy we use all the time...
“Ski The Groomer Ridge”, using a Rapid-Fire, Short-Radius, Jump Turns in the Air
technique.
The times when you may want to do this may include, but are not limited to,
1) If there’s any “Icy” in the centre of the trail you’re on, this technique almost
always Guarantees you a Soft Snow Line option when you want to avoid
slip-sliding around in the middle.
2) Speed Control is actually very easy to do with this technique by simply
completing more or less of a whole turn to either close in the radius and reduce
speed with a hard edge-set in between the ridge jump crossings, or let speed build
up by increasing the radius with a larger arch and less aggressive edge-set, all
on a turn-by-turn basis for instant safety adjustments.
3) It’s a Ton ‘o Fun(!!!) Turning in the air is one of the most fun Skills an Expert
can develop and the very predictable amounts of air you can get with each turn
by adjusting radius and edge-set over many consecutive and relatively even jumps
teaches you very useful jump control that can be applied anywhere out in the Open
Terrain over Moguls or Land Contours, for only two examples.
4) In the Classical Model of Ski Turning Technique, there is an “Un-Weighting”
phase where the Skier extends the Torso Upwards to reduce weight pressure
on the Skis, thereby facilitating easier turning by reducing surface contact
pressure. YOU DON’T NEED TO JUMP... to use the Groomer Ridge for that objective.
Just riding over it at a controlled speed is going to “Uplift” you from the “Ramp Effect”.
This Pic. Below shows the same Groomer Ridge(in an expanded view) as the Jump Scene
above, a few metres farther up, and you can see exactly how soft the snow is there
relative to the Open Trail, as well as how easy it will be to turn on it with slow speed
and a sideslipped, or “Skidded" back and forth Turning/Traversing action that even an
Intermediate with solid basics can do.
One of our Favourite Locations for this technique, besides McCulloch, is Duncan Haut,
under the Duncan Quad as it rises to the Summit Crest on Versant Nord, the North Side.
This Pic. below illustrates the exact track we made over the descent length there 3 days
ago on our way to Devils River.
This Expert Technique has a broad range of useful applications at any Ski Area,
as it allows the Skier to take advantage of Trail Edges that can sometimes have
more and/or better snow than some high traffic Trail centres that can be subject
to Slick or Icy wear patterns, or Exposed Natural Hazards. On top of that, like many
Expert techniques, in the mastery of new Skills, there is just the sheer fun of it.
This technique has transferable skills elements to Mogul Skiing as well as Slalom Racing.
