with latest at top-of-page.)

Apres Midnight, Apres Ski Update:

No rain, no Freezing Rain, no Precipitation of any sort...
for about 2 hours now... and the atmospheric conditions look “Clear” at this
moment. Temps at South Base Level are floating over Zero by the width of
the needle so very hopeful that we can get through the night without any
Weather Drama....

Will Mother Nature See It That Way????

----------------------------------------------------------

Mid-Evening Apres Ski Update @ 8:30 P.M.

For those looking for info. on the alleged “Freezing Rain” event....

So Far... in Old Mt. Tremblant Village, adjacent to the South Resort Base...
the “Freezing Rain” event is more like the “Wet Sprinkles” event.
There were about 20, small droplets on the front window that were the
same ones for about 2 hours, however there is now a fine drizzle but
standing out there, it does not appear to be “Freezing”, just wet.
As of this writing, it has not even washed snow off car windows.

Of course... that could change any minute, either in increased or decreased
intensity. Of Course... things could also be different in as little as a few
kilometres distance from here.

The Current Hourly Forecast indicates the passage of this band of weather
off to the east between midnight and 1:30 A.M. or so. At that point the
“Freezing Rain” warning gets downgraded to Light Rain at Base levels.
At the Forecast +1C overnight, that precipitation could be different at
the usually cooler Summit, but we won’t know as the Summit Web Cam
is off-line so we’ll just have to wait to get up there in the morning.

Until we have more substantial evidence of Rain here in the Old Village,
we don’t think it’s much more that a short “February Thaw”. If there’s
any benefit, it might be the expedited compaction of much recent new
snow into the established base by tonight’s Grooming Schedule.

Tomorrows Skiing may be very “Spring-Like”, with surfaces that
should be otherwise Wall-to-Wall White, and close to Hazard Free.
“Hazard Free”??? Yup... there’s just way too much Snow around here
to be anything else...

Thursday Utility Note:

Waxing or Coating Ski/Board Bases with “Warm” range treatments
could be your best friend to reduce any potential moisture induced
resistance/drag and facilitate speed/glide.

T360 Early Apres Ski Edit @ 4:30 P.M.

Very Very Fine Skiing, Moderately Cool Temp’s, a bit more noticeable
due to a somewhat Blustery Wind, but Generally A Great Winter Day.

One of our favourite Versant Soleil Sector Trails, Algonquin...

Please Note: Ambient Airborne Snowfall obscures some photo detail but “Too Much Snow”
is a very happy problem for a Ski Resort, so we can live with that!

Algonquin is a Masterpiece of Modern Trail design with a Highway-like width
and a compacted roadbed foundation so when it has this much snow on it,
Smoothness is never a problem. With this much snow, it can be prone to
mogul formation on the steeper pitches, but that’s a very predictable pattern
on all steeper pitches, so proactive safety calls for speed reduction any time
you approach a crest so you can navigate potential mogul zones without
unexpectedly launching yourself into low level orbit.

Similar to Algonquin, North, Devils River(above), and South, Alpine(below), both
received a good dose of New Snow during the day which highlights the relatively
even distribution of todays snowfall between all of Tremblant’s 4 sided Terrain.

As we’ve been adding to Apres Ski, so far, the precipitation is still all Snow.

This May Profoundly effect safe driving, so do not drive in Freezing Rain unless
it’s an Emergency.

This may be a Completely Different Scenario on the Mountain... See all attached below.

Secondly:

Sent to us by a T360 Fan:

Conditions at the Summit are being described as “Blizzard-Like” with rapid
snowfall and gusty high wind speeds.

Today... A Fine Winter Day for sure, but...

It’s still way too early to tell how this will all work out for tonight, so all we can really
say is stay tuned for the short term detail, but keep your eye on the long term planning
potential and get your Ducks in a Row for any Tremblant Attendance Opportunity
you can move on over the next few days/weeks.

If you went to the Casino and every time you pulled a handle, coins came
out, some people would say you were “Lucky”.

We seem to have that sort of analogy happening at Tremblant right now.

Snow after Snow after Snow, after more Snow seems to be the new Theme
Mother Nature has adopted and this Season(that started out with such a late
and warm fall), is quickly Morph’ing into a way above average abundance of
Natural Snow that has set new records for both the amounts of Snow, and the
short time span it has accumulated in. The benefits to Conditions are obvious
and all Tremblant guests are now enjoying the daily “Jackpot”.

It may not surprise you then, to hear that it’s Snowing again, right now, and that it will
probably snow all day... again.

Today is the start of a New, 2 or 3 day Winter Storm System.

In this particular instance, another “Texas Low” Gulf of Mexico originated Storm System
is making its way Diagonally North-East from Texas, towards Labrador and initially
there’s a yet to be defined line above which there is Snow, below there’s a lot of Rain.
That line so-far, seems to be roughly the St. Lawrence River.

One of the most erratic components of the forecast model is the Temperature
and even though it’s “erratic” values are only floating around by 4 or 5 degrees C,
they just happen to be doing that around “Zero”, the freezing mark. That makes
this a prime example of a “Tipping Point” scenario where a small amount either
way could profoundly change the Precipitation Outcomes.

48 hours ago, they forecast a +5 degree C High for Thursday, 24 hours ago it was
+1, now it’s back up to +5 again.

Considering the Cooler Mountain Elevation Differential at a typical -4 C Lower
than South Base Level, you can quickly see there could be a huge effect at or near
that Zero Degree Balance point that could mean Snow or Rain.

Two components of the “Thermal Burp” that seem to be consistent within the
Forecast models are: 1) the Short, 6 hour time-span that the exposure may be, along
with, 2) the indications that the precipitation during that 6 hours should be “Light”.
That means even if it is rain, it could well be very slight, probably will be in the
usual bands of intermittent on/off/on/off, hopefully more “off”, and of little
consequence, as those bands of active precip. traverse the area.

It’s a Complex, Complicated, Variable, Unstable, Unpredictable(at least in specifics),
but seems to always end up with MORE SNOW, Weather Forecast.

Speaking Of MORE SNOW In The Forecast...
