T360 Early Eve. Apres Ski Edit @ 7:45 P.M.
(Please Note: Adjusted Open Trail Data to 76(*) recorded in raw format at page bottom.)
Foggy, Wet, Damp, But Totally Shred-able, Super Soft Spring Snow
with a surprising amount of Speed in some Sectors.
3.10.16.Nord.North.Fuddle.Duddle.Bas.Lower.Phuzzy.Skier.Focus.On.Spring.Snow.f.jpg
You need either full-on Waterproof outer layers... OR... a Poncho... to enjoy
such a wet day, but “Enjoyment” is what you could have, non-the-less.
Above:
In a moment where there was no airborne “Wet”, we managed to get camera out
for this view over the top pitch of Expo. Normally, Expo’s a bit intimidating because
of the steepness you face looking down from the top. Covered in Fog, Expo does not
look nearly so dramatic and with the Soft Snow there it was actually easy to do Old
Style Parallel turns down the whole pitch, as the Soft Snow was very easy to swing
around on.
Below:
(Colour Highlighted Part VERY IMPORTANT as it applies to the whole Mountain... So Far.)
Pictured on the Steepest chunk of Expo’s descent, you can see the “Mashed Potatoes”
on Ski Tips, but the saving grace that makes it “Easy”, is that the soft top layers
are relatively shallow, so no real Moguls here yet because the frost in the substrates
is keeping the Big surfaces flat... so far.
It’s very difficult for average people with average tolerance to wetness to see
the fun or performance of a day like today because our personal comfort zones
do not regularly include winging down a Mountain at a high rate of Speed,
anywhere close to Zero C, soaked to the bone. Thusly, it is only the True “Ski Freaks”
those Whacky Idiots who Ski in any weather... that will probably be able to
empathize with us today, and... it’s probably only those Whacky Ski Anything
people that own a Descente Poncho good enough to keep you dry today too.
But there we were anyway... Carving Trenches Everywhere!
Just as we expected... Clinically Speaking, Rain Soaking Aside...
The Shredding Out There Was Superb. The Coverage is Total and Complete.
It’s a rare combination of So Much, So Soft, So Very Fine Traction... BUT...
if it’s a rainy day, you need to be prepared.
---------------------- 8:25 A.M. Orig. Post ---------------------
95/96(*) Open Trails on the Foggy and Wee bit Soggy, but Technically Excellent,
Spring Slopes of #Tremblant.
There is No Problem With Very Fine Technical Spring Skiing.
For Yesterday and Today, The Challenge Is Staying Dry
(the EASY FIX noted below), through the Passing Bands of Drizzly
Rain/Mist/Fog/Clearing/Fogging/Damp Patches/Sectors/Zones.
Like all other Seasonally/Characteristicly Generalized Conditions References, i.e.
“Powder Skiing”, “Groomed Skiing”, “Winter Skiing”, “Fall Skiing”, etc., etc.,
“Spring Skiing” has it’s own unique and distinct attributes, challenges, techniques,
hazards, rewards, performance, timeframe, etc., etc..
Mountain Crews Are Doing An Excellent Job Of Daily, Initial, Grooming Quality.
So then, Here’s our Morning Forecast for
what you get Miles n’ Miles, Km’s n’ Km’s of...
Traffic and Weather can, may, potentially, generate changes to Surfaces
During the Course of the Day.
For Best Results... You Need to Stay Dry...
“GOTO STAY DRY DEVICE”:
One of those “Challenges” has been an external Comfort Factor when there’s been
rain passing through. Staying Dry, keeping your Core Dry and Warm is a basic
adaptation that facilitates All-Day Athletic Durability and Enjoyment because
your physiologic system does not need to have valuable energy diverted from
Muscle Function to Core Temperature Production/Protection and the very quick
onset of “Hypothermic-Like” symptoms of Uncontrollable Shivering, reduction in
Cognitive Efficiency, reduction of Potential Aerobic Output, reduction in Muscle
Co-ordination... for some examples...
A good quality Poncho turns a wet uncomfortable day into a “Joy Of Spring Skiing” day,
Instantly.
Get one at various shops around the Resort. It is one of the most Simple, Brilliant,
Skiing, Camping, Hiking, Spectating, Damp/Rainy/Sleety “4 Season Stay Dry” things
you could ever own.
You will “Laugh” at days like these and have fun doing it the entire time you are
Outdoors in them. We can tell you for a fact that with frequent, but well cared for,
thoroughly dried out, and stored folded maintenance, they last for literally decades.
If you can Stay Dry... Skiing in the rain is a Joy.
The Groomed Top Layer of Soft, Spring Snow still has a crisp edge as there’s
still a TON of Frost below the surfaces which is supporting an extraordinary degree
of Wall-To-Wall coverage.
The Lateral Carving Force you can generate is as thrilling as any Roller-Coaster,
but YOU... are in control.
Weather Notes:
Up to + 5 C with Light, Passing Bands of active Drizzly, Misty, Floating Around,
and Occasionally, Light Rainy Events. Very Low Winds with sheltered pockets of
stillness. Well... it’s “Warm” anyway... all you need to do is Stay Dry(see all Above).

Re: Poncho Use:
Anyone that misses this quality of Beautifully Shred-able Spring Skiing and
is whining and blaming the Weather for it... is barking up the wrong tree!
