3/17/16 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Apres Ski Mid-Eve. Apres Ski Edit @ 9:45 P.M.

It started out foggy... everywhere. That made the “Sunny” part of the Forecast
seem unlikely, but then, at least to begin with, it did clear up somewhat over
the South.

...But, you could surely see there was something “Brewing” in the Sky
as the clouds were developing VERY quickly and they gave an impression
of "Boiling Up" over the Summit as they expanded by the second.

First Rain... A big bunch of it too, but it smelled like a squall and it did taper on and off, but...

A Giant Flash Of Lightning, followed by a Glass Rattling Clap of Sharp, Deep Close-by
Thunder.... We knew in an instant... Lifts Would Be Closed Immediately For Safety.

And So They Were... for about a half hour +/-, or so...

But soon, the sky began to clear, and both Expo and Duncan fired back up
at just around 3:00 P.M.

Riding Up Duncan Was Surreal ...

One look and you’ll see why...

More later on if possible, more in the Morning for sure, but as we left...
it was still snowing at affair clip, on the North anyway.

89(*) Open Trails on the Spring Snow Slopes of #Tremblant.

The Very “Spring” Qualities Continue To Enjoy All The Benefits Of Very “Winter” Coverage.

The resilience of the Base, the quality of the still virtually “Glitch Free” surfaces
are generating day after day of Ski/Board Spring Performance that place March 2016
as one of the most unexpectedly superb examples of how very fine conditions
can be when Mountain Crews have all the Natural Snow Resources to work with.

The recent series of Blizzards and the 2 Metre Snowfall over roughly 18 days
about a month ago, has created a fundamental late season advantage that we
continue to enjoy now, and for the foreseeable future.

What Is Important In This Photograph...

Is not only the very evident coverage on the Alpine Snow Sports Trail Network...

But It’s The RETAINED SNOW In The Bush... that really shows that after a week
of “Warm ’n Wet”... the Natural Snow Reserves are yet to show any signs of loss.

Normally after such an extended period of “Warm ’n Wet” at this time of year, we’d see
brown patches of both exposed Forest Terrain and Trail Surface showing through...
but not so far this Season, and we are overjoyed with the general superiority of
the Ski/Board surface quality that is an extension of this late season abundance
of Retained Snow.

The Skiing has been every bit of “Spring” soft, mogul-prone, but there has
also been very sweet cruising too, and a still surprisingly firm base substrate
3 or 4 inches, 8 to 10 cm’s underneath the loose, very easy carving top layers.

Choose your Terrain Skills Difficultly realistically, or One Notch Down, and
you will have a great day.

Think about it... “Officially”, there are only roughly 3 weeks left in the Season,
but from across the Lake, Tremblant looks like any fine February day of total
White Winter coverage.

Short Editorial:

Basically, there are two utility perspectives about today we feel need to be defined.

One is the “Immediate" 3/17/16, "(Ski)Boots on the Ground”, Use Today, Now, Perspective,
for which much of the above applies. The second one is the “Future Reference”
perspective, say if you are looking at this date as part of Google Researching
“Spring Ski Holiday” options you might have for a week’s Skiing, some early
September Evening, 5 years from now, and you’re just looking/scrolling back
through our Archive here to see the range of conditions for mid-March weeks.

For the Latter, The “Future Reference” Group...

What you need to know is that there is Always Great Skiing/Boarding here at this
point in the season. The technologies of this time period have allowed the
fundamental Blown Snow Base Infrastructure to have been established, on average,
for very close to a solid 3 Months Prior to this date and even with Weeks of Hot, up to
+24 C Daytime highs, and less accumulated Snow, we’ve still had Very Fine Spring
Skiing/Boarding, perhaps with less total available terrain, but none-the-less, very
fine, smooth, and meticulously maintained, and groomed to within and inch of
perfection every single morning of that seasons Optimized Conditions.

Not every season can have the Late Deep Snow we’ve gotten this year, but every
Season Does Have Optimal Utility for its overall Potential, and we hope that will
become evident if you scroll back for however many March 17th’s you would want,
through the seasons recorded in this Forum.

The Impressive Late Season Coverage Continues To Be A Primary Benefit.
The Groomed Trail Network shows very little in the way of Glitches
or Hazards from loss of base after almost a week of “Spring”, PLUS...
There are still statistical/seasonal probabilities for additional snowfall too,
so there’s every good reason to look forward to more Great Spring Skiing/Boarding!
