All White... All Winter... And Maybe Most Importantly For The Base... All There.

16 Hours ago it was +8C, Now it’s -6 C. Consequently, the Laws Of Physic’s Apply,
everything Froze Solid, and this requires a Strategic, Systematic execution of steps
over time to recover.

All you need to remember is “Icy Is Way Better Than Gone”.
“Icy” can be Recovered, Restored, Re-Groomed, Repaired, etc., etc.

Thank Goodness For “North”, as in Latitude...

In terms of the Pre-existing available terrain, all Tremblant Guests are fortunate that
the Snow is still there(unlike many Ski areas to the “South” where the warm, wet
weather has generated a considerable degree of ”Gone”), and we can look forward
to it coming back on-line on a graduating basis, overnight.

Thanks to one of the most Solid, Well Established, Deep and Wall-To-Wall Alpine
Trail Bases on record for this date, the World Class Pro’s in the Tremblant
Mountain Op’s Team will be able to restore the Trail Network over the course of
a couple of days.

Forecast Best Trail Conditions This Morning:

This is usually done on a priority basis that begins with Nansen and P’tit Bonheur
for the benefit of those Beginners and Intermediates who are most sensitive to
surface quality, and of course, the Major Boulevards such as Beauvallon and
Beauchemin are also on that initial list.

After that, the team selects individual Trails that are required to keep things like
Lessons going within schedule and we are very happy to see that Sissy Schuss is
Groomed and Open as indicated on the Official Open Trail Data Icons.

Sissy Schuss, a 1948 Versant Nord, North Side Trail off the Peak of the Expo Quad,
is one of the most Brilliant, Natural, Rhythmic, and Totally Excellent, learning,
practicing, and underrated Ski Training Environments on Planet Earth. It has a
simply Beautiful, Accurate, Fall-Line Descent that can benefit the Technique Style
and Refinement of any Recreational Skier Alive. Any “Expert” that does not
appreciate Sissy Schuss, is an “Expert” without the understanding of “Nuance”
as it applies to Skiing/Carving Technique. Any Beginner that does not benefit from
it’s Smooth Surfaces should take up Knitting as a Winter activity. We are thrilled to
see it has received Day One Recovery Status Attention.

You Do Not Need To Be A Rocket Scientist To Know...

Conditions are going to have Icy, Firm and Fast, as well as the need for extreme
caution with the “Fast” part as Braking will need extra space to compensate for
any of the “Icy” part.

There will be some very sweet lines, zones, and by the afternoon, possibly even
whole Trails or Sectors that respond well to Sun and Traffic to yield Great surfaces.

Use your Head and be careful. Watch out for others and allow lots of space
wherever you can to increase your own personal margin of safety.

Yesterday’s Awesome Weather, Samples.

It was obvious there was some Heavy Duty Weather Activity
and the overhead scene was changing literally, by the minute.

As Far As We Know... before today’s “field Work”,

Virtually all the Pre-Existing base has survived, however as now froze solid,
it needs Groomer processing to render out loose, Skiable, Shred-able Top Layer
Surfaces and all Tremblant Guests need to be patient while that takes place.

The Initial Phases of that process are already complete this morning with
the basic Access and Learning Terrain.

Tomorrow should see a rapid expansion in the Open Terrain in addition to the
refinement of what is Open Today.

More later, in Apres Ski....

If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)

T360 Special Weekend Edition Apres Ski Under Construct @ 9:30 P.M.

Today is what we call “Post Thermal Event, Day One”, i.e., Yesterday was + 8 C, Today, the South
Resort Base started out at - 5 C, so the Summit was somewhere around - 9 C with the usual - 4 C
cooler Elevation Differential.

Predictably, there was a significant Icy component early this morning and the 23(*) Open Trails
on the Official Open Trail data was sufficient proof that Tremblant was very serious about protecting
the Terrain by placing so much Progressively Open status over the Mountains entire domain.
(see above Archival Copy of Official Open Trail List)

As the Sun and Surfaces Warmed... Soleil was Opened and that’s why we’re starting with this pic. below
because a Sector Opening is the biggest single thing that happened.

In the Original Post, we commented on Sissy Schuss...

It was all we expected...

We are repeating a portion of our comments on this 1948 Tremblant Classic Trail
because we emphatically believe it to be true.

“ It has a simply Beautiful, Accurate, Fall-Line Descent that can benefit
the Technique Style and Refinement of any Recreational Skier Alive.
Any “Expert” that does not appreciate Sissy Schuss, is an “Expert” without
the understanding of “Nuance” as it applies to Skiing/Carving Technique.
Any Beginner that does not benefit from it’s Smooth Surfaces should take up
Knitting as a Winter activity.”

Sissy Schuss was groomed and it held smooth, fast, controllable surfaces...
All Day Long. For the most part it felt the most consistent over it’s entire length
and it had good lines from top to bottom across its entire width. The top portion,
combined with either Sissy Bas, Lower, or Fuddle Duddle Bas were very high on
the days scale of quality.

In the Original Post, we also commented on Nansen...

It was exactly as we expected.

If Nansen had an advantage, it was in the Solar Energy Induced Softness
that it had benefit from. If it had a disadvantage, it was the Traffic.
Being really “Good” when there’s been a reduction of Open Terrain
gets you a lot of attention if you’re as smooth as Nansen, so even
beginners were having to navigate carefully to avoid “Close Encounters”.

It might be fair to say that all the Open Terrain had mixtures of Sweet and Icy
Surface conditions and the critical factor in safe passage was selecting Terrain
Difficulty as in “Green”, “Blue” or “Black” based on your REALISTIC Skill Level.

The people we saw having trouble, were clearly way over their Skill Levels.
With all due respect... There were many well intentioned folks on McCulloch
and Duncan who were very obvious Intermediates struggling with Gravity
and the consequent demonstrations of poor control. Anyone riding up the TGV
or Duncan Quad that had their eye’s open could plainly see the difference
between genuine Black Diamond Experts and anyone else...

In The Mean-Time...

Mountain Crews Have Been Putting Big Teeth Into The Restoration Process...

And Here’s What You Get Miles n’ Miles of Tomorrow Morning...

We also think it’s possible there may be some “Best Of Season” Groomed
Trails within those “Miles n’ Miles” tomorrow?

Will we get that right? Sure Hope So!
