Excuse Our Enthusiasm, but “Excellent” Today was different than we thought it
might be in some of the surfaces. One look at the above photo shows there’s
no doubt about the performance capability, however it was a technically demanding
type of performance in that the loose top layers were shallow over an Icy substrate,
over the general Groomed Open Terrain, so edge pressure needed to be smoothly
applied with sensitivity to skidding and loss of grip.
The Rewards were as you see above. Moderate Speeds with well tuned equipment(**)
gave you Shred-able Carving with quite apparent lateral grip. The Icy bit underneath
just necessitated absolute speed control to keep that lateral hold.
Excellent Certainly Applied To The Scenic Outlook Today...
but then again... Any Sunny Day At Tremblant Is Excellent!

There’s Always “Excellent” Within The Open Terrain.

(**) This pic below shows perfectly well the kind of Carving Angel
“Well Tuned Equipment” can get you. It was very obvious who had
sharp edges by watching both Skiers and Boarders that could easily
hold turning energy versus those that were skidding.

drier, looser, deeper top layer and what happened was the solid base that
we expected, but less of those loose snow top layers than we hoped for.
Certainly at the 2/3 mark of March, no one could argue with the benefit
of a solid base, especially with such broad overall coverage as we move
inevitably forward to Spring. So, the bottom line is we’re happy anyway
because any day or morning with some “Icy”, is way better than “Gone”.
Tomorrow should see an incremental increase in the depth of loose top
layers over the entire array of the Night Shift’s Grooming Schedule.
Pay attention to the Groomed Icons in tomorrows Official Open Trail data
and look for the best surfaces where those Trails are overlapped from
today.

due to the around the clock efforts of Tremblant’s Skillful Mountain Op’s
Grooming Team.
What we see is the significant potential for synergistic benefits on the Groomed
Open Terrain because of the combination of the Grooming Process over the
comparatively Cold Overnight Low Temp’s that hopefully, re-solidified any remaining
softness in the Base, while leaving adequate soft/loose top layers for carving.
We think what you will experience today may turn out to be some “Seasons Best”
Groomed High Performance Carving that will be applicable within all Skill Level Rated
Terrain.
It is possible, even likely, that there may still be Icy Bits, some Wind and/or Wear
Eroded thin spots, after all, there was quite a bit of Warm and Wet. On balance
however, there is still a large percentage of the 2 Metres of recent Snowfall, so in
our opinion, Tremblant continues to be substantially ahead of averages typical
for this date.
Depending on Traffic concentrations, the possibilities of Mogul Formations
or exposed Icy Bits may be increased in areas of Steeper Pitches, Trail
Narrowing’s/Intersections or Run-outs to lifts, may increase. It’s a Weekend...
A Sunny Weekend, Please be careful, control Speed and Direction proactively
and Give Your Friends In the Ski Patrol a Break!
