3/29/16 #Tremblant Conditions
Posted: Tue Mar 29, 2016 5:59 am
13(*) Open Trails @ #Tremblant on Versant Sud, South Side, Versant Nord, North Side.
----- Editor’s Update: Revised Open Trail List Increased To 42(*) @ 11:23 A.M. ------
Raw Data Format Revised List Attached Below @ Page Bottom.
Look On The Bright Side... A Warm Sunny Spring Afternoon!
Yesterday Rainy, Above Zero... Today, Sunny Sub-Zero....
With only 13(*) Initially Open Trails, It's Recovery Mode For A Day...
These things can and do happen in the typical cycles of any Spring
and with the roughly 43 “Progressive” Trail Openings, the Actual Open
Numbers are bound to go up shortly.
Basically, yesterday saw fairly steady rain, although there were varying
intensities between drizzle and rain, along with a daytime high temp of
+4C. Through the night, the temps dropped back Sub-Zero to reach
-4C. The Laws of Physics Apply... What was Thawed is Now Froze...
Today's forecasted high of +3C, but this time under a Brilliantly Sunny Sky,
will generate Softness in the surfaces, but until then, say between 11:00 A.M.
and the Noon hour, “Icy” will be a conditions component that requires caution
in Speed and control.
Based on the fact that the Temp. is only supposed to get up to +3C,
Cooler Mountain Elevations may only see significant softening where the
combination of Solar and Ambient Air temps can work together. For that
reason, we think Versant Sud, the South Side, may ultimately have the
most favourable User Friendly Conditions of the day.
For Best Potential Results: Pay close attention to the overlap between “Groomed”
and “Open” and/or “Progressive” Opening Icons in the Open Trail Data below.
For Best On The Mountain Results: Consult with Mountain Info? Crews
and default to one level easier/down in difficulty rating until you have
verified safe passage.
For Best Equipment/Performance Results: Ski/Board Edge Sharpness Essential
For Any/All Safe Control Inputs.
Weather Notes:
Sunny, daytime high of +3 C by mid-afternoon. Strong Gusty Nor-West
Winds coming up the Mountain over Beauvallon and Nansen and at the
Summit, crossing from TGV Quad off-Load Zone and La Crete towards Duncan.
South Base Wind Velocity Forecasts at up to 30 KMPH, so at higher elevations
Wind Speed has a high probability of exceeding that by who knows how much,
but “Gusty” may seem more like “Wind Tunnel” at times.
In the long range outlook... all the usual Spring indications of Sun, Rain, Snow,
Above/Below Zero C, Windy, Calm, etc., etc., but as far as the heaviest rainy bits go,
we think it’s fortunate that the forecast only shows one more. Additionally,
as individual days with Sub-Zero overnights between(like last night) there is
a big advantage over consecutive warm days of big rainy because the re-freeze
reduces the net erosive effects that might occur if there were no re-freeze
over any of those consecutive days.
There is a Polar Vortex forming over Russia/Siberia that is going to be the most
influential Weather factor for the remaining Official Open Schedule to April 10th.
The forecast show a wintery dip over this coming Sunday/Monday and there is also
Snow in the forecast next week too.

Snowmaking and Lift Status for March 29th, 2016, Courtesy of Tremblant.ca
Please Note: 43(*) Progressive Opening Trails are pending Ski Patrol certifications
and may be Opened without notice as per individual Trail assessments.
Progressive Page Assembly... Tremblant Fans need to be patient for a day while
Mountain Crews execute a strategic recovery plan that will optimize both
immediate and remaining Seasonal Conditions.
