A Very Fine Mid-January White Winter Tremblant Day In April.

The Temp’s, The Winds, The Snow, The Skiing... All “Winter”, All Very Fine Tremblant!

Of all the practical factors that either make or break any “Easy” aspects of winter,
the wind is the most influential and if you’d forgotten what January feels like,
the Wind reminded you today.

Despite the rather “In Your Face” presence of this blustery reminder of earlier
days of the season, the very positive aspects of the day were the outstanding
quality of the Skiing experience that were very much the best attributes of
Traction, Grip, Performance and Control that you would expect on any fine
January day.

Looking at the bottom right side of this pic.below you can see the wind moving Snow
from left to right, but no camera on Earth could capture either the Velocity or
the Force attached to it. Ski tracks made here one one run were filled in and invisible
on the next run.

We actually think it was the combination of the Wind and the dramatic Temperature
drop that effectively rendered out such superb Ski Performance Snow with a Swift,
Powerful Shot of Cryogenic Cold Shock on yesterday’s rather Sticky, Damp, Humid,
almost, but not quite Wet Snowfall... that anyone who Skied here yesterday would
probably agree, was in many places, “Heavy”, “Thick” and a very fine adhesively
moisture bonded element affixed to the icy substrates.

Today there was none of that thickness what-so-ever. Any “Heaviness” is now
very “Dust-Like”, very dry, very light, and very fine for Skiing on.

It’s generally a very fine crystal, much the same consistency as "Icing Sugar”.
It holds an edge very well at Speed, although the Groomed Top Layer is not
all that deep yet, as the days go by this week, repeated Grooming should
generate additional depths.

At The End Of The Day...

As Subjective As The Judgement May Be... It is distinctly possible that there
were surfaces at Tremblant Today that may have been at or very close to
“Best Of Season” for seamless, flawless performance quality.

The amazing part of that is the whole upcoming week has the potential to
be much the same, but with the incremental daily improvements and
refinements that are common and typical for each Grooming nightshift
within any sustained Sub-Zero sequence of Winter Days.(See Weather Notes Below)

Notwithstanding the Bonus Weekend April 16th and 17th, this is the final Closing Week
and it holds every promise of being an Excellent White Winter Ski/Board Experience...
In April!!!

The “Light Rain" Forecast for yesterday came instead as “Thick, Heavy, Snowfall”!!!

Nice!

Functionally, we could not have written a better alternative because the New Snow
came so thickly and was so high level humidity that it almost instantly bonded
with the somewhat Icy Base and in less than an hour, most of Tremblant went
from being Slick and very firm to Soft and very much smoother navigation for
all Skill Levels. Equally fine from a Skiers POV, was the Snow Accumulation on both
South And North.

The North Side of Tremblant continues to hold an advantage in that it has inherently
been more sheltered from direct afternoon Solar intensity, as well as its usual
cooler ambient temps over much of the recent Spring weather, so the New Fresh
Snow there had a more immediate user friendly benefit. The Satin-like qualities
of Beauchemin were a complete and very wonderful surprise!

Some of the South Pitches which had pre-existing icy layers and zones required
care in descent because the new snow was enough to cover the icy bits, but only
in cosmetics, not in utility, so if you hit a patch of snow covered icy going too fast,
the result was a loss of control.

Most people could sense that and it did not take more than a few turns on McCulloch’s
upper pitch, for example, to immediately realize the need to slow down to be able to
harness the available grip at safe speeds.

And It Was Still Fun Anyway!!

This whole scenario of Tremblant receiving Snowfall when Rain was in the forecast
is an excellent example of the Seasonal Tipping Points that with the Northerly
Latitude here, can and does often produce Snow in the cooler winds aloft at
Mountain Elevations when South Base Level temps are moving anywhere around Zero C.

Thank Goodness For “North” as in Latitude, as Tremblant benefits with a significant
Winter Surface refresher just at the right time to yield a meaningful enhancement
to the Ski/Board Conditions.
