Official #Tremblant Snowmaking Seasonal Startup. Oct.26.2016
Fabulous Early Season Snowmaking On P’tit Bonheur, Versant Nord,
the North Side at Tremblant, was Officially announced in a Tremblant.ca
Press Release on October 26th, 2016.
In addition to this Excellent news showing active Snowmaking on P’tit Bonheur,
and just as a further thought starter, we think there’s very good reason to think
there is a significant probability for Summit-To-Base, Total Mountain Vertical,
for Opening Day.
That’s our theory, based on some key observations that will be the major
point of this topic’s development over the next day or two...
Here is your biggest clue, for those who can spot the largest hint
revealed in this Web Cam Summit Snap Shot.

Can you point to the biggest clue that may suggest Summit-To-Base
Terrain Development?
Hint: 2+2=?
But First...
Going Back In Time By A Couple Of Days...
There were Snow Guns set in place on the Summit on or before October 24th
which is completely normal as Mountain Crews get prepared for the season.
Over the years we have observed Crews setting Snowmaking equipment out
at various time prior to the onset of temps low enough to blow snow, perhaps
around a week or so before the long range weather forecast is showing favourable
conditions. All very normal parts of readiness. This year, the first significant snow
is coincidental to the early Snow Gun placement.
We immediately noticed half of the clue we refer to above in this
Webcam Snap Shot from 10.24.16
Due to the early date of this first snowfall, we might expect the
snow would not last for beyond a few hours. Very rarely does
first snow this early stick around in the normal up’s/down’s of
the third week of October.
By after sunset on the 24th, it seemed that the temps and the snow
were going to hang in there for at least overnight, as the snow settles
in for a well chilled evening.
36 Hours later... by noon on Oct. 26, there is what we would call an
“established” Sub-Zero Celsius pattern that has allowed both
retention and accumulations of more Summit level snow. This is
really beginning to look encouraging for an early head start.
Not only that, but the additional clue we hinted at is now visible
in the picture.
But Wait, There’s More!

The Positive Factors Keep Adding Up!
Clues to Versant Nord Summit-To-Base Snowmaking Terrain Development
are the locations of the total number of visibly deployed Snowguns.
On the 24th of October:
If you scroll back up to the second from page top, 26th Webcam Pic, you’ll see
there is a forth Snow Gun installed on the Duncan Quad side and that gives the
total visible at 4, 2 on the Ski Patrol HQ side, 2 on the Duncan Quad side, hence
our “2+2=?” hint from above.
Those Snow Guns on the Duncan Quad Off-Load side are only
really necessary if the Duncan Quad is going to be running, indicating
a Versant Nord, North Side, Summit-to-base descent circuit. Otherwise,
if it was a historically typical Opening Day, only the 2 in front of
the Ski Patrol HQ would be necessary to facilitate Summit Snow
for access to P’tit Bonheur, Beauchemin and/or Nansen, Beauvallon
which have been the traditional Opening Day Starters.
In the 78 Year History of the Tremblant Resort, total Mountain Vertical
access on Versant Sud, the South Side, and Versant Nord, the North Side
has only occurred once, the Opening day of season 2014/15, two years ago.
Will this be the second time?
Looking at the Long Range Weather forecasts, there certainly seems to be
solidly Sub-Zero “On The Mountain" for nights and much of early and late
days, for the next two weeks. “On the Mountain” is the reference we use for
the typical -4C Cooler-than-base temperatures at Summit elevations.
Please Note: It’s our understanding that continuous 24 hr Sub-Zero is not necessary
for Snowmaking to generate functional accumulations. In this forecast model
below, between 14 and 18 hours per day, may be Sub-Zero on the Mountain,
allowing Crews to incrementally Night-Shift a blizzards worth of total depth.
Here is a graphic annotation of the 14 day Tremblant, Sud, South Base forecast.
Please Note: At cooler elevations, all of the precipitation icons shown above
have the potential to be Snow in the winds aloft over the Summit.
If Mother Nature is “Willing”, i.e., sufficient Sub-Zero Snowmaking time,
Tremblant Crews are “Able”, with one of the most powerful Snowmaking
systems in Eastern North America, so stay tuned for further updates!
Please Note: Tremblant.ca sent an email newsletter 10.27.16 regarding
a blog with specific timestamp references to 10.26.16 Pic.Files as “Yesterday”,
however, the blog is header dated 10.20.16? We are not sure why the discrepancy
however, all the included information confirms the intent to Open with Sud, South,
Nord, North, Summit-to-base descent access. We will include an Archival copy of the
blog article as a “Reply” to this topic, below.
Mother Nature Caveat:
All Human Endeavours In These Matters Are Dependant On Mother Nature
Providing Conditions Suitable To Support The Desired Outcomes.
Conditions Outside Human Control Could Change Things To Any Degree
That Could Include More Or Less Favourable Results.
We’re hoping for the All-Snow scenario!
