Rising up over the first pitch, your still focused on the view back over the
Resort Village and the Long Expanse of Lac Tremblant. An absolutely
captivating sight with the whole scene framed with the white snow
covered branches of the lower Mountain’s deciduous trees.

As soon as the Village fades from view, your eyes are drawn upward...

and that’s when you know those expectations of Great Trails with Great Snow
are going to become real in just moments...

There are Dozens of Training Race Teams swarming the Slopes of Tremblant,
just as there are at the beginning of every season. We think it’s Great!
These Kids are inspirational. They seem to have boundless energy, they Ski
with great technical proficiency, and they’re FAST! Not hard to imagine
future Olympic and World Cup Champions are here at Tremblant right now.

Many of the drills and exercises they use are directly applicable to all Skiers,
so if you see the Kids working on methods of improving balance, angulation,
turning technique, don’t hesitate to try some of those tricks yourself. The
basic Laws Of Physics that make good Racers, apply to all Skiers alike.

Please Note:

All three Open Days have been Snowy Overcast Grey Low Contrast Light.
This has been a challenge for Photography, but EXCELLENT for Skiing/Boarding.
In order to default to Snow Surface Conditions, images have been Cooked up,
Highlighted, Contrasted, Burned up, Turned up... or any other expression used
to indicate modifications to reveal detail obscured by White-Outs!
... and it’s still really difficult to get contrasted resolution,
... and really easy to experience Great Skiing!

The New Snowfall has been happening continuously, but there are variable
degrees of concentration from thick and heavy to periodic light breaks.
We managed to get this P’tit Bonheur pic. during a light break. You can see
some twigs in the foreground. They have been placed there by Ecole Sur Neige,
Ski School Instructors as markers for students to use for exercises in turn control.

Otherwise, there is not hardly a single flaw along the entire length of this trail
and it is a joy to be on, just like every other day of it’s near-magical existence
of ideal learning characteristics.

---------- Conditions Caveat(s): -------------

As wonderful as it is relative to all “Opening Day” Sequences, it is still
only Nov.26th and there can be some areas of thin Base where Hazards
can occur.

The Ski Patrol have marked the larger glitches, but it is wise to explore
at reduced speed where you have not been to today. Small pebbles and
other “Debris” can be encountered.

Abundant New Snow can create thickness in some surfaces that may be
irregular in depth. Rapidly changing forward resistance may be encountered
when Ski Tips or Board Edges run into the build-ups of snow tracks or moguls.

Do Not Assume Everything Will Be Exactly The Same As Last Run.

Traffic Concentrations Require Careful Navigation. Beginners may make
Sudden Directional Changes. Allow Wide Passing Margins As All Skill Levels
Are Sharing Limited Terrain.

-------------- End of Caveat(s) -------------

We were fortunate enough to see Ski-Acro Quebec Team Training on Alpine
and Beauvallon. These are the Kidz of Air-Time and Moguls! The top-of-page
pic is one of them during a Parallel Turn Exercise and this pic below is most of
the assembled group signalling the remainders to come down.

We enjoy seeing the latest in training techniques for all different styles of Skiing
and this is particularly interesting because “Parallel Turning” is useful every day
at Tremblant for moguls and steeper pitches like "Expo" where Carving may be
impractical due to pitch or big bumps.

There’s A Lot Going On, On The Mountain, So These Smiling People
Pictured Below, fully acknowledge...

New Open Terrain Development:

A) There were visible deployments of Snowmaking Gear over the entire
Lowell Thomas Sector, including Rope Tow, Lowell Thomas and La Traverse/Rigodon
yesterday. They were not turned on during the day. We should be able to confirm
activity there today, but it seems evident this area is going to be under construction.

A review of the “Snowmaking” Icons in the Archived copy of the Official Trail Status
above, does not currently show them, however the physical evidence does.
Sometimes it takes a few days at the beginning of a season to get all systems
co-ordinated. Naturally, all Skiers/Boarders want as much terrain as is possible,
so we’re looking forward to the sound of Snow when they do get switched on!

B) We have had multiple questions regarding the expectations of Summit-to-Base
Ski out options that Tremblant referred to having available for Opening in their
end of October, Pre-Season Blog.

Some Opening Day Regulars(notably including many Lac Superieur residents
who utilize the Versant Nord Base access), are relating to last years Opening
that had much higher and “Plus” temps, no natural snow, and Open Versant
Nord Summit-to-Base on Beauchemin Bas by the third day. Unfortunately,
we are not privy to any Official planning or administrative knowledge
regarding Strategic Opening Terrain Development and we recommend
anyone with Questions on this, or any other related information, contact
Tremblant’s Customer Service Via Tremblant.ca

What We Can Tell You...

Tremblant has committed to Terrain Opening at the highest level of Quality possible.
Last season there were some initial safety issues with very difficult conditions
on some of the steeper pitches on Beauchemin Bas, Lower when it Opened.
Last season some will recall both Posted Warnings and the deployment of the
Official “Prevention” Crews, who monitored the entrance below the Lowell Thomas
Triple Base from time to time.

It is one possibility that specifications for snow depth and/or trail widths
to allow for durable very high quality are not yet in place. We respect
Tremblant Mountain Op’s and we support their decisions to attain durable
quality and safety in all Opening terrain.

Summary... Basically, it’s been snowing for about 3 days.
You Should go if you can.

At the peak of the just after lunch crowd, about 6 to 7 minutes,
and in the singles line, a little quicker... maybe.

The Skiing on the North was faster, with more grip and less icy bits
than yesterday, and yesterday wasn’t bad to begin with!

So, even though the temp was up a degree or two, with the overnight
dusting of snow, plus some additional flurries during Open Hours,
it was clinically speaking, a slightly more user-friendly day.

Grand Manitou Lobby Talk reflected a lot of acknowledgement of “Smooth”
and “Fast”.

Meanwhile, over on Beauvallon, the daily wear factors are still generating
considerable Mogul formations down the centre, but both outboard edges
were quite soft. We chose the left side descending and it was surprisingly
easy to make a lot of quick swivel’d parallel turns in a soft trail shoulder
thats 2 or 3 metres wide all the way down.

We want to include this because these kids have been swarming
the Mountain with their speed, quick reflexes and their Hoot’s ’n
Hollers of pure joy as they race around on all their training exercises.

Their enthusiasm is inspiring and as we watch them we’re motivated
to try to follow them along. Try that for a run or two and go turn
for turn with the Future World Cup and Olympic Champions!

Summary... Basically, with today added in,
it’s been snowing now for about 4 days.

You Should go if you can.
