P’tit Bonheur was very smooth, but the new snow here and elsewhere on the
North was somewhat higher friction. Not sure exactly why, but there was a bit of
noticeable drag underfoot. In practical terms, this meant you could take a more
direct line over crests and down pitches as the natural resistance helped control
speed on steeper descents.

When there’s a Lot Of Snow... slopes can build irregular surfaces which
may morph into moguls if there’s enough traffic. That definitely happened
on the Beauvallon Pitch, and by Last Run, there were not only moguls,
but some icy trough’s between them. In High Speed GS Mode, you could
have cleared the whole pitch in 3 turns, but that was not always safe due
to other, slower moving traffic. To an extent, the slower you went, the more
you had to deal with the irregular surface depths and speeds. Focus was
critical because slick areas presented very quickly which meant having
Cat-Like reflex’s to quickly react to Traction Loss...

Over on Nansen, the wee icy bit yesterday down the centre of the
gentle side, was completely gone and replaced today with great
carving snow that tracked very well, without any slickness at all.

Racers were training over the length of the Nansen Pitch and access
was restricted. We skied around the gentle side and looking back up
from the bottom, it looked very smooth.

Below:
Perhaps the biggest news today is the completion tonight of Beauchemin Bas,
lower, and the intent to open the Duncan Quad tomorrow for this season’s
first Summit-to-Base. From the info. we heard, this opening may likely be
a “Progressive” or “Gradual” opening. This would be the biggest single Terrain
development since Opening and there will be many, many very excited
Nord, North Base Fans anxious to start using that immediately.

We’re keeping “Fingers Crossed” for good luck on that one, and we’ll have
our eyes locked onscreen for the Official Snow Report to verify that for
our archive records here first thing in the morning.

If the Duncan Quad Opens, tomorrow’s an easy 30,000 Vert/Ft/day
for any fit Expert... for sure.

The Traction and Performance across the entire array of Open Tremblant Terrain
is immediately obvious as soon as you make your first run.

Turn after turn of the highest levels of grip take all the muscle you can commit, or...
run after run of relaxed cruising through the majestic Laurentian Scenery for
a Recreational day of Fresh Air and Exercise... Either way, Experts to Beginners,
And Everyone Between... Tremblant’s Open Terrain is in Optimal Shape for Early
Season Conditions.

Out For A Day Of Cruising...

The remarkable part of the two pic’s above are that they are both on Versant Sud,
the South Side’s Blue, Intermediate Rated portion of Nansen. They are within about
1000 metres of each other, within a Classic Tremblant Trail that is 6 Kilometres in
length when finished, and... a Trail that is very well suited to a wide range of Skill
Levels from Intermediates to Experts, with a designated “Green”, easiest, parallel
descent path as well.

The significance of that is “Versatility”. In many cases, the unique terrain of Tremblant
can safely be shared by multiple Skill Sets, and generally, you are going to find Experts
very accommodating to Intermediates on these early season slopes as everyone
finds their own pace for each and every descent.

The above is only one sample. Due to the equitable distribution of the so-far
seasons Natural Snowfall over the entire footprint of Tremblant, Guests today
will find much the very same superbly prepared surfaces on close to every
single square metre of Open Tremblant Terrain on all sides and Trails.

Weather Notes:

First, A Review of yesterdays Atmospheric Parhelia.

We were fortunate enough to receive this pic. from a T360 Fan and we are including
it to show the completeness of the circle that many were able to observe here yesterday.

At the time it occurred we were over on the right side(facing South Side) of the TGV
Summit Off-Load zone and we used the corner of the structure to minimize Sun Flare
and maximize the refraction going on in the Atmospheric suspension of the billions
and billions of tiny ice crystals for a closer look at the symmetrical prismatic effects
and to try to capture the ice particles themselves as to the naked eye, they were
completely surrounding and saturating all the airspace within sight.

Tremblant is an extraordinary Observatory for many naturally occurring Geophysical
and Environmental phenomenon and yesterday just happened to be a rare occasion
for those in the right place at the right time to catch this unique Atmospheric display!

Moving on to today... MORE SNOW... It’s been falling for hours, and it
looks like it’s going to be another All-Day affair.

Temps got down to -10C South Base Level, so maybe around -14C at the Summit,
so all surfaces have had a nice shot of overnight “Cool” to render out really dry
snow. They rose through the night and at sunrise they are starting the day out at
-5C, rising up to around -3C.

Winds are so-far, light to moderate and from the Sou-West, so rising up the
Mountain from the(looking down), Left side of the Soleil Sector and crossing
the Summit towards the Lowell Thomas Triple Chair Off-load area.

The New Falling Snow is of a small, fine particle size and it is thick enough to
reduce vision to maybe about 3/4 of a Kilometre. The wind is gentle enough that
it is accumulating in the tree boughs with a very pretty white frosted look and
overall, it’s a beautiful, very peaceful, quiet, PostCard early Winter day.

Conditions And Open Terrain Notes:

We’ve had tons of “When do you think there will be more open trails?” Q’s
and without being day specific, the answer is “This Week”. Logistical Terrain
to support Both the 24 Hr. Children’s Charity Course, and the Skiing/Boarding
public who are not associated with the event, all have to be in place this week.

We think there is a good chance you’ll see Summit-to-Base very soon this week.
The entrants to the 24 Hr Event will begin to float into the area now, and the
numbers will get progressively bigger every day. We think there are going to be
a percentage of them that have not yet had their first runs of the season, so it
should be important to them to get out for at least couple of training days to
limber up those dormant muscles before hitting ‘em hard with a Marathon Event.

We will attempt to research possible Terrain Openings
and report back Apres Ski on that.

There’s A Lot Going On On The Mountain This Week.

All Tremblant Guests can benefit from consultations with Mountain Info. Crews
in their distinctive Yellow/Red Uniforms with the Big “?” on the back.

They are Radio Controlled, Fully Bilingual, Very Local Knowledgeable,
Friendly, And They Want You To Have A Great Day!

We usually talk to the enthusiastic members of the Info.Ski Crews every day.
There are many things concerning Open Terrain, Mountain Logistics, and General
Tremblant Interest that we discuss with them and they are ALWAYS Helpful.

With all the Activities and Terrain Development going on this week, their role
becomes even more vital as they represent the “Front Line” for Guests that
may not be familiar with all the proceedings. Never hesitate to stop and ask them
about anything “Tremblant” that you have questions on, especially over the next
7 days.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
