T360 Apres Ski Edit Intro. @ 7:00 P.M.

It’s not a fancy action shot, but if you’re a passionate Skier/Boarder,
it will give you some insight into the day at Tremblant.

Why Axle’s Opening is so significant to follow in Late Night Apres Ski,
but essentially, it’s getting better by degrees of accumulation and
refinement every day, so by extension, tomorrow will be all that much finer,
and today was very good to begin with.

-------------- Late Night Apres Ski Under Construct @ 11:55 P.M. -----------------

The Reason the Opening of Axle is important far beyond it’s place in either
size or length compared to 90 some-odd other Tremblant trails, is... that like
some of the other small, out-of-the-way trails, it relies on Natural Snow to
achieve Open Status(There is one identifiable, hard plumbed fixture on it’s
path, but we’ve not seen it activated this season.).

The point is... There’s enough Real Snowfall in this sector to begin Opening
Terrain simply on those natural accumulations and for that to be possible
at any Eastern Ski Resort in Mid-December makes it a noteworthy occasion
because it is, as far as we know, the First Such Naturally Snow Opened
Trail at Tremblant this season!

Axle is not a super steep, mega challenging, “Extreme” trail that gets
a lot of attention from Thrill-Seekers, however, it is one of the most
tranquil, and naturally beautiful sectors of the entire Mountain and
we go there frequently to admire it’s spectacular, yet intimate scenery,
and to use it’s short path to connect with Rigodon, La Traverse, or
Lowell Thomas Bas, Lower, to get to Gagnon and Sissy Schuss.

We think it’s a really good sign that Tremblant’s Terrain is filling in enough
for Trails like Axle to Open. What it really means is that there’s lots of other
terrain that’s filling in as well, and consequently we feel there is a strong
probability that the Open Trail Count will be going nowhere but Up in the
very near future.

At the End-Of-The-Day, for the most part, its a quiet Mid-week,
Pre-Christmas Sale on great early season conditions without
the maddening crowds.

With the exception noted below regarding some small, early season, natural hazard
areas, the surface conditions are above average in terms of the ratio of Natural Snow
to Snowmaking and accumulating trail base depth.

The carving performance is mostly very fine, particularly early in the day. There are some
icy substrates that become evident in late day, and with all the new snow, compaction
takes a couple of days to really generate solid density, so with “Day-After” softness still
in the top layers, moguls can form that require good technical skills to get through
without drama.

You KNOW there’s lots of Fresh Snow when little moguls appear on P’tit Bonheur
that 97% of time, is as flat as an Aircraft Carrier Deck.

Not Surprising is great difficulty in Photography. Big, Fat Fluffy Snowflakes the size of
Quarters smearing onto camera lens as the breezes swirl around are unavoidable and
any cloth you attempt to use to keep the lens clean becomes soaked and practically
useless within about 10 minutes, so unfortunately we do not have as many useable
pic’s as we’d like.

We call too much snow “A Happy Problem” at a Ski Resort. There’s never too much
snow at a Ski Resort, but rapid snowfall can generate some very short term conditions
that add challenge for Beginners, Intermediates and Photographers.

Real, Genuine, Experts can’t believe their Good Luck!

Early Season Snow of this quantity and quality does not happen every Fall and
considering that Winter does not Officially start for another 8 days, this Fall has
very Winter-like weather so far, which supports all the forecasts for a Snowy Winter
in Quebec that were made months ago.

------------- Conditions Caveat: ----------------

It is not February and the Trail Base is still at early season initial depths so
there have been Natural Hazards that could effect your Ski or Board Bases
if you are not careful. Of Course all this new snow will help, however, during
the daily Traffic wear patterns, the most concentrated use where traffic is
funnelled into narrow passages, or over crests, or on steeper pitches, can
cause hazards to become exposed. This is especially applicable where the wind
may have worked to reduce accumulated depth.

Caution and Reduced Speed is recommended in these areas at all times.
Patterns of use evolve during the day so be mindful of those changing risks.

Expressed as a percentage of Total Open Terrain, hazard zones are very small,
so Pro-Active Navigation in anticipation can reduce potential damage.

Weather Notes:

Super Easy Early Winter at -2C, 28F and very light winds(so far).

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
