12/31/16 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Apres Ski, New Years Eve Edit @ 1:45 A.M.

Happy New Year!

It’s asking a lot of any Camera to take Telephoto Pic’s Of Fireworks ...In A Blizzard.
(Well, maybe it’s not technically a “blizzard”, but it sure is one big ‘ole Snow Storm!)

But That’s A Great Problem to have at a Ski Mountain....

There’s a distinct possibility that Tomorrow may be “Epic” by New Years Day Standards...

Odd thing too... there was a ton of traffic in the lanes headed out of town,
and the lanes headed into Tremblant were pristine Snow White, like no one
on them in hours...

We think it was a lot of people worried they might not make it home to “Theirtown”
tomorrow for all the Snow and all the Highway Traffic.

As far as we’re concerned... they be headed in the Wrong Direction!

All Points Below Interconnected For New Year’s Seasonal Progression...

There are Two Principal Tremblant Guest Planning Stories:

1) Attending Today/Weekend...

For those attending today and tomorrow, it’s a Beautiful, Snowy, Holiday Winter Weekend
and the numbers/traffic on the Trails will probably reflect that.

Tremblant.ca has included a Wind/Lift Advisory, in their Official Snow Report
so patience for Lift scenario’s could be necessary, particularly if the velocity of
the Sou-East Winds goes over the safety threshold and causes any Lift delays
or closures.

Beyond that however, the Skiing and Boarding should be really, really good.
The Base is in Great Shape, there’s a lot of fresh snow in the layers, and those
all-important Base Layers are generally getting deeper every day.

2) Attending Beginning Next Week, i.e., Monday and on...

We always begin to think about the week after January 1st as the beginning
of the “Serious Season”. With all due respect, the Xmas/New Year’s Holiday Group
have to get back to “Theirtown”, the Kids are back in school, someone has to feed
the cat on a regular basis, and then it’s back to “Work”...yuck... but... for those lucky
enough to be able to get to Tremblant for next week and beyond... the Season may
just be getting started.

These are the kinds of Conditions you hope for when you made your January Ski Holiday
booking back in September.

Of course, Tremblant Mountain Crews always Optimize Trail Conditions, but when
there’s this kind of above average early season natural snow abundance, it just
re-enforces the faith and wisdom of a decision to attend in this time period that
also has the inherent advantage of light traffic and uncrowded slopes. It’s that
combination that makes the Fitness Value of a serious January Ski/Board Holiday
so great.

There are Two Principal Conditions Stories:

1) Groomed...

We wrote yesterday that the Open Groomed Trail Array
is the Jewel in the Tremblant Crown.

We stand by that assessment and furthermore, within all normal, seasonal,
temp swings, it is going to get better and better for the foreseeable future
as both Mother Nature and Mountain Crews add more snow to the compacted
base. There was good foundational base strata to begin with, so all the added
can’t be anything other than enhancements in both day-to-day smoothness
and long term seasonal durability.

We specifically mention “Normal Temp Swings” because the forecast you’ll see
below has a recent warm blip next Tues. that may generate a days worth of
mixed precip., but that should be very short lived. Otherwise, we are entering into
the time of season where sustained, sequential, 24Hr Sub-Zero C days become the
norm, along with the steady, positive, surface refinements that evolve when that
happens.

It is this continuously upward escalation in Groomed Surfaces that make the
prospects for all near-term Tremblant visits so exciting to anticipate.

2) Un-Groomed...

As good as it is, the Un-Groomed, Hors Piste, Sous Bois, Glade Conditions
are technically still “Early Season” and with lots of enthusiastic Holiday Guests
exploring every nook and cranny, there are wear factors over natural hazards
that can grab you without notice, particularly on the Downhill sides of
contours and also when there may be light coverings of fresh snow that can
sometimes effectively camouflage submerged glitches. We recommend Caution
in both Speed and Navigation in all un-groomed zones.

Predictably, as the Holiday Traffic ceases to be at relatively high volumes, New
Snow accumulations in the New Year will add more meaningful cushion and
safety in the un-groomed, so there will likely be be a considerable gain in margins
of utility and hazard free area expansion in the next two weeks.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
