1/1/17 #Tremblant Conditions
Posted: Sun Jan 01, 2017 7:52 am
T360 Late Eve. Apres Ski Edit Under Construct @ 10:15 P.M.
Today was a day of unique contrast, but, for reasons we hope you will find
perfectly obvious...
What we want to do is Start with the End.
Amidst the busy goings on of a Ski Resort Holiday...
Regardless of what happened before the pic. above was taken, any day that
ends with this tranquil Last Run scene is a day that transforms your spirit, a day,
a moment, that wants to hold you in time, the run you’d wish would never end.
This is why you choose Tremblant.
This is why you come back to Tremblant, time after time...
For more on how the day looked and started, refer to our Orig. Post, Below.
The summary on that was that is looked every bit of All-Day-Grey, but as if by magic,
at just before noon the sun began to come out... and it wasn’t long before the
clouds almost disappeared.
The Views From Practically Every Place You Could Aim Your Camera From...
Absolutely Spectacular!
An Overhand, Behind the Head, Over the Shoulder, Snap Shot from the Soleil Quad. Conditions were a mix of just about everything. A lot of comments on the
Icy Bits, however we feel a percentage of those were from folks who need an Edge
Tuneup. The Icy bits we encountered were in the predictable places, Pitches, Crests,
Traffic Concentrations, Wind Facing, etc., etc., however, there was plenty of good
carving on soft fresh snow surfaces.
More in the Morning, but we’d have to say that...
When there’s enough Fresh Snow to make wee moguls on P’tit Bonheur’s Upper Pitch,
Tomorrow’s Overall “User Friendly” is tonight’s Grooming Shift.
Otherwise... Nansen Gets The “Smooth Cruising” Award today... Great for Beginners,
Great for everyone!
(P.S. An Up-Dated Open Trail Report was issued by Tremblant.ca at 5:56 P.M.
which is obviously Apres Ski. Historically, “Preview” editions for next day have
occurred in prior records and are always welcome when available. We understand
that there are many circumstances, such as unpredictable weather, that may
make them impractical or unavailable. An Archive Copy is attached below.)
--------------- 7:52 A.M. Orig.Post -----------------
87(*) Open Trails on all 4 Open and all 4 Very Snowy Sectors At #Tremblant.
Happy New Year!
Not only is it a “New Year”, but as well, Today is a New High Number of Open Trails
for the Season at 87.
1.1.17.Lac.T.Views.Mt.T.N.Y.Fireworks.In.A.Blizzard.h.jpg(**) PLUS !!!!
The New Year Is Not The Only Thing That Starts Off With A Big Bang!!!
As Tremblant Receives 19cm’s, 7.5 inches of “Official” Fresh, New Snowfall Overnight!
It Snowed Hard And Thick For About 7 Hours Last Night...
The Driving was Messy... Visibility Poor... Wind Swirling It All Around...
((**)At Midnight, the snowfall was peaking at around 2cm’s/per hour, which is a
great “Fill Rate” for a Ski Resort, but a horrendous “Filter” for Long Range Telephoto
Photography. This Image has been cooked, burned, highlighted, contrasted, sharpened,
and every trick we have to bring out the detail obscured by thickly falling snow which you
see herein as a rather vertical-like wash over the entire pic.)
So it’s reasonable to assume that for Real, Genuine Experts...
The Skiing/Boarding will be Fantastic!
For Beginners and Intermediates: We hope they Groomed Nansen and P’tit Bonheur
after the Snow stopped falling at sometime around 2:30 A.M. because that’s the best
shot you have for compacted surface smoothness today. Even then, with 19cm’s, it
will still be prone to softness for at least one day, today, so if you begin to experience
any sort of delay or difficulty in executing control inputs, STOP, arrest your Speed,
and either take a break, or begin again with control firmly re-established.
----------------- Conditions Caveat(s) ---------------
A) The wind has had very high peak gust velocities, on top of high speed to begin with.
This has created some Icy exposures of the Base Substates in places where the
directional force has been focused enough to prevent or erode any new snow
accumulations.
Two examples where this was evident were Toboggan on Versant Soleil, and
Taschereau on Versant Sud, the South Side.
Those Areas may or may not be different today due to the uniqueness of
wind speed and direction over Mountain Contours, but they will most likely
become apparent in patterns that can be identified through Cautious, Initial
Explorations.
B) Deep, Drifted Snow creates extra challenge in maintaining control inputs
because of either high or uneven resistance to manoeuvring Skis or Board
in thick and/or tracked up Surface Layers, especially for Beginners and Intermediates.
Care and control must be exercised at all times in order to avoid “Run-Away”
gravitational effects that may occur if you can’t exert sufficient breaking or stopping
energy.
All Skill Levels Should Allow Extra Margins Of Safe Navigational Space
and Reduced Speed In Holiday Traffic Concentrations Today.
--------------------------------------------------------------
-------------- 9:40 A.M. Up-Date: --------------
It’s Grey, Snowy and Overcast on Sud, South and Summit Sectors, but...
Sunny On Expo???
------------- 11:30 A.M Up-Date --------------
We are pleased to confirm that Nansen seems to have been Groomed after
the Snow fell and is in Smooth, Great Shape!
T360 Fan.Pic.
Weather Notes:
The Forecast is for partially Sunny, but so far, it’s very flat grey overcast and
the “Sunny” part looks like a long shot at the Sud, South Base Level.
The temp’s should get up to an easy -5 C, and the winds are forecast to be a fraction
of yesterday’s at moderate speeds between 9 and 15 KMPH, while swinging around
from the mornings Nor-West, to West and then on to South by the end of the day.
Basically, the “Breezes” are going to start out over Nansen and work around
over McCulloch, then keep on going until they settle coming across the Summit from
over the Big Comm. Tower, a close to 180 degree swing.
That shift in wind direction creates a lot of variability in the way the day could feel
and it also signifies a change in the weather that’s approaching in the next couple
of days, but more on that with a repeat of a graphic we ran yesterday:
In the Mean-Time, Today/Tomorrow are a Mother Nature,
Two Day, Experts Powder Sale!
87(*) Open Trails on the Archival Copy of Official Open Trails,
Grooming, Snowmaking, Lift Status and Mountain Conditions
