42cm’s, 16.5 Inches of Fresh Snowfall in 24 Hours!

the Blowing, often Horizontally, Heavy Snowfall made it virtually impossible to
keep Snow out of the Camera Lens and Control Systems facing into it on Versant Sud,
the South Side.
Remarkably, and seemingly completely contradictory, scenes like these ones Above
and Below on Versant Nord, North Side Lowell Thomas and Marie-Claude Asselin,
were taken it almost complete calmness as the Mountains contours and the narrow
Tree-lined Trail sides act as very effective shelter for these locations. At the same time
the wind can be heard rushing by, but so far above you, that the erie sounds are the only
evidence of its presence.

As you can imagine, there is great softness in the top layers of the Groomed Trails.
Trail Grooming Compaction is optimal in one cycle with Fresh Snowfall up to about
10cm’s, around 4 inches or so, and when the daily accumulations are larger than that,
two or more Grooming Cycles may be necessary to achieve firm, stable surfaces.
When there are 42cm’s, 16.5 Inches of Fresh Snowfall in 24 hours, a rare occasion for
sure, it may take 3 or 4 nightly Grooming cycles, so it’s very important for all Tremblant
Guests to be not only careful out there in Super-Soft deep snow, but also, Guests need
to be patient while Mountain Crews do their jobs with such a sudden and massive
dump of Natural Snow.
A Ton of Fresh Snow means there a lot of turns being made to control descents
and when there’s a lot of turning in a lot of Soft Snow, that means Moguls get
formed as traffic flows in the lines that get deeper and deeper over repeated
passage, so until the Grooming produces the mogul-resistant density in top
layers, we recommend a slow, “Take It Easy” approach.
Physiologically, these conditions are a Fantastic Workout! Forget The Gym!
You’ll find Muscles you either didn’t know you had at all, or Muscles you
forgot you had, but either way, after a day of vigorous Skiing/Boarding
in these conditions, those Muscles will definitely be in touch with you
tonight, so make sure to support them with adequate clean Protein sources
for recovery and growth!

Important Introduction: Be Realistic About Your Actual Skill Level.
Abundant, Deep, Fresh Snow Creates Extra Challenge For All Skill Levels.
This Is Not A Good Time For “I Dare You’s” or “I Can Do Anything”,
or Any Types Of Peer Group Pressure or Personal Bravado.
Experts: Have Fun, but in a responsible manor. An “Enthusiastic" Acquaintance of
ours was enjoying runs in Hors Piste, Sous Bois, Glades yesterday, and a branch
of a fallen Tree-Top under about a foot of snow, “Hooked” his Ski tip, causing him
to be instantly rotated into a “Bear-Hug” with an adjacent Birch Tree. Fortunately,
his speed was low enough that no damage was done, but the surprise of a most
abrupt and unexpected “Organic Contact” was sufficient warning that both
Lower Speed and Wider Margins are appropriate for risk reduction.
The Abundant and Heavy Snow Accumulations have caused Many Trees to Break
Under Load. The Hors Piste Bush Is Full Of Newly Broken Trees and there are more
every day when it Snows like this.
In the Groomed Open Terrain, Experts should remember that not everyone can
navigate Thick, Deep, Tracked Snow as well as Experts and Extra-Wide Passing
Margins along with Lower Speed on popular Trails is absolutely necessary to avoid
hazardous situations.
Intermediates: USE YOUR HEAD. Default To One Level Down and Retain 100% Stopping
capability At All Times. These types of Conditions can very quickly create “Run-Away”
scenario’s if unexpected Speed Builds up through Thick Snow and you lose control.
If Necessary... Stop and Re-Start, even if you have to do it frequently. Respect Your
Fatigue Level. A high proportion of Accidents occur from loss of control due to
tired muscles that do not respond when needed, if overly fatigued.

Repeat Graphic From Yesterday Because Today Is “Day 2” of a 2 Day Weather System,
With Noted Up-Date of 42cm’s current Snowfall total with Another 20 Hours
to go, so the New Forecast Total may reach 50-->60cm’s???.
Please Note: The Balance of the Clearly Defined Drifting Patterns we Forecasted
will take place during the course of the day, today and overnight, tonight. In addition
to the outright statistical accumulation totals, there will likely be “Lee-Side” Contour
Drifting Benefits in all Sectors due to the constant shifting of Wind Vortices observed.
Basically, the wind was not Steady in either momentary direction or velocity, so
despite an overall Easterly wind Aloft yesterday, for example, there was a lot of “Swirling”
going on at Surface Levels that you could see acting in localized drifting features and
we expect those patterns to be similar today, albeit with Higher Peak Winds and an
overall directional change to Sou-Westerly forecasted for today.
