T360 Apres Ski Mid-Eve. Edit under assembly @ 7:55 P.M.
(Please Note: Due to extreme weather and a North Side Power Failure,
there were multi- Trail Status reports/Up-dates, delayed Opening,
Sector Closings... logistically, it was an unusual day... details below.)
There’s no way anyone here over the last day’s Weather Drama,
then seeing the mornings Snowy overcast, would have imagined that
at just around noon, and in about an hour, you’d have this view...
BUT... There it is anyway, and... the Skiing was almost as closely beautiful.
So then... There’s only one thing better than looking at the Summit from
the above POV, and that’s looking at the Summit from THIS POV!:
You’re On Your Way Up To Ski!
Even though...
Opening was delayed...
Versant Sud, South and Versant Nord, North, Only Open...
North did not Open ’til noon...
Snow was a bit heavy...
It Could Have Been A Lot Worse... and...
It Still Turned Out To Be An Excellent Day!
ADDITIONALLY...
A) As an example of Expert Terrain Development....
Mountain Crews Groomed The Big Bumps Out Of Devils River for the first time
this Season... and we got there for a run and some pic’s, so we’ll have that for
tomorrow morning.
B) There’s an ugly overnight weather forecast for Rain that’s got a lot of
regulars concerned, but we feel there’s at least some chance, that at
only +3C or so, it could actually be Snow on the Mountain’s cooler elevations.
The reality is that we could have a messy day tomorrow, but we do have
“Fingers Crossed” for good luck and Snow. At these quite close to Zero Temps,
almost anything could happen.
------------- 9:30 A.M. Up-Date: --------------
74(*) Open Trails On Versant Sud, South and Versant Nord, North ONLY.
Soleil and Edge Sectors Officially Closed for Today.
Corrected to 72(*), Official Downloadable PDF. 10:02 A.M. Version
Trail Status Archive Copy Attached Below.
Wow... that’s what you might call “Unsettled” Weather!!!
...although to our knowledge, not one single drop of forecasted rain fell locally.
All we saw in Old Tremblant Village was Snow, some of it pretty heavy
moisture wise, but all still snow. If that was same on Mt.T., it’s all great
material for the ever-increasing Trail-Base depth.
About 5 Official Open Trail Status Up-Dates, but we’ve Archived 3 that get
us, we think, maybe, could be, the final number @ 72(*) Open Trails...
and even then... the whole North Side is still not off “Progressive” Opening.
Just a quick word on Conditions... It’s Zero C and Snowing, so that Snow is
Damp and Heavy.
Depending on how the Wind Shaped things, there could be anywhere from
almost no effect, to substantial Difficulty increase.
You’ll need to pay close attention to Hand Posted Signage, particularly
where applicable to More Difficult Skill Level requirements and Hazard Zones.
We hope to have a big Apres Ski and frankly, there are just so many “Wild Cards”
for today to spend a lot of time speculating any further as it could all be different
in reality anyway.
It’s important to remember that none of this very minor weather glitch will
have any lasting effects on any aspect of conditions other than the temporary
re-freeze process for a day or two. Even then, the recent -30C mornings and
the frost into the Mountain may be capable of keeping todays surfaces stable
throughout.

-------------MOUNTAIN UTILITY WARNING @ 6:55 A.M.:---------------
OPENING DELAYED DUE TO Electrical Breakdowns
and SEVERE WIND/WEATHER Factors Beyond Human Control.
Advisory to follow from Official Tremblant.ca
Technically Speaking, The Whole Mountain Is On “Progressive” Opening.
This means that Crews are working as fast and as hard as possible behind
the scenes to restore function. When they have cleared the Glitches, the
Mountain will “Open”, however it is possible such Opening may occur in Stages.
A Very Rare Occasion...
A Delay in Mountain Opening might only occur once every 3 or 4 Seasons(?),
so the circumstances that are creating this delay are extreme, and outside
of Human control.
We may not stop to think about that often, but every once-in-a-while, Mother
Nature reaches out with her immense force and reminds us all that Humans
are subject to powers that go beyond our abilities to compensate.
All we can do is wait patiently while Mountain Crews do their best to get
things back on-line ASAP.
“Refresh” all your #Tremblant Info.Sources Frequently, but Tremblant.ca is
the only Official Authority we’ll be monitoring for the next while this morning.
In our Annotated Weather Forecast Graphic Below, we wrote:
"...there are possibilities of Rain and High Wind that could create
complications with Open Trails or Lifts.”
Oh Well... Warm up the coffee, put another Log on the Fire,
try to breath deeply and relax while we all hang in there for the
completion of the big, big job that gets the main switch flipped “ON".
---------------- 01:29 A.M. Orig. Post ---------------
92(*) Open Trails(PRELIMINARY, subject to Morning Confirmations) at #Tremblant.
Please Note: Very Early @ 01:29 A.M. Post Due to Site Utility Scheduling.
Will make additional Post Entries as time permits...
50 Shades Of Grey(t) Skiing/Boarding
It’s the nature of Ski Resort Photography to involve bouncy Chair Lifts,
Rough Terrain, White-outs, Grey, Flat, Low Contrast Light, and then
be SnowFog-Bound on top of any or all of that... So... There are a lot of
Phuzzy Phocus Pic’s we toss out via the garbage file. This below, might
normally be one of those Phuzzy Phocus toss-ables, but sometimes,
those Phuzzy Phocus ones just have some sort of intangibly overall
Speed and/or Impression Effect that viewers can identify with in their
Visualization process.
The Expert Skier in the above was doing a quite fine job of several
consecutive descents on EXPO, and we think that comes out in this
pic as Phast, Phuzzy Phocus ... not to mention Phunnn....
As we annotate in a weather graphic below, the potential interruptions
that Weather can have could possibly effect either or both Open Trails
or Lifts. If or when that happens, there’s no better source for immediate
On-Site Info. than the Tremblant Mountain Info? Crews. We consult with them
literally, very day, and you should too, especially with complex weather effects.
Below: Devils River, Open, Un-Groomed Blown-Snow, Terrain “Bump Park”
for Skiers and Boarders.
We think the likelihood is that Devils River may get groomed in order
to generate a smooth platform that will be easier to support future
use and maintenance, particularly with the unpredictable effects
this approaching Weather System could have.
