Summary: Yesterday... "Above Zero", Today... "Below Zero".
If You Have Recent, Fresh, Sharp, Edges... You will think it’s “Solid”, but Ski-able.
If You Do Not Have Recent, Fresh, Sharp, Edges... You will think it’s Icy and Very Slick.
For the Later Group... Don’t let poorly tuned gear hold you back, don’t let poorly
tuned gear compromise your safety, don’t let poorly tuned gear steal your fun!
If You Think It’s Icy You Need This:
The Ski Shop has a Wintersteiger Discovery II, Arguably, the Best CNC Style
Ski Tuning Machine on Earth.
And/Or This:
The Ski Shop’s Crazy Good “Overnight” Deal is the Ski Utility Bargain of the Season!
Go To The Ski Shop @ Cabriolet Base, Chalet Des Voyageurs
And Get Your Skis/Board Tuned NOW!
If “It’s Been a While” since your last Tune-Up....
You Will Think Someone Gave you New Skis!
Especially on a day like today....
We were wrong about some of our theories this morning. There was less
new, fresh snow last night than we’d hoped for, so there was less surface
cushion and the “Solid” Substrates were far more prevalent than we thought
they would be.
What we were Right about though, was the Overwhelming degree of “Smoothness”
in the Officially Designated Groomed Trails, so at least you weren’t being banged up
over rough Terrain. If your Gear was out-of-tune, you maybe had to “Slip-Slide”
down many of the Descents, but even that is a Hundred Times Easier, when
everything is “Flat” to begin with.
Tune Status of your Edges Was EVERYTHING!
Here’s an Example of Carving At Tremblant Today With Sharp, Tuned Edges:
Racers Can Carve The Gates For The Same Reason You Can Carve The Open Slopes...
Sharp, Fresh Edges WORK For All Skill Levels!
Tomorrow should be better due to another Overnight Grooming Cycle
that will increase the “Shred Depth”, i.e., the depth into the Surface Layer
of Snow that your inclined Ski/Board Edges can Carve into in order to
harness Centrifugal and Gravitational Forces.
Regardless(A)...
If you’re not bringing Sharp Edges to the Mountain, it’s like you’re bringing
a "Pea-Shooter” to a “Gunfight"!
Regardless(B)...
Any Sunny Day At Tremblant Is Gorgeous!!!
P.S. Tomorrow, Saturday January 14th, 2017 Has Been Officially Designated As
“Canadian National Ski Day”!!!
It’s the ONLY reason you need to drag all your Friends out to the Slopes
At Your Local Ski Hill!
Please Note: Saturday Weather Forecast Included Below In Orig. Post.
---------------- 8:06 A.M. Orig. Post -------------------
49(*) Open Trails on the Rapidly Recovering, Smooth, but Froze Slopes of #Tremblant.
We could see the Groomers out on Sud, South Summit Sectors at 3:00 A.M., and...
They’re Still Workin’ On It Now...
Back To Basic’s...(A):
Thank goodness Mountain Crews had so much Groomed absolutely Flat Yesterday.
Going from “Plus” 3C to “Minus” -13C overnight, certainly makes the potential
Icy in todays mix understandable, BUT...
Froze “Smooth” is always a 1,000 X Better than Froze “Rough”, so what we
theorize is that within the 49(*) Open Trails today, you will be able to find
very good basic Carving conditions, because experience shows rendering out
a reasonable Top Layer “Shred Depth” out of an initially Smooth foundational
surface is a reliably predictable outcome.
If you look closely at the Web Cam Snap Shot above, you’ll see lots of Loose
Snow in the Plow Blade of the BR350 Grooming Machine... and that’s BEFORE
it goes through the very powerful “Tiller” mechanism behind the machine.
The High Speed Rotating Carbide-Steel Teeth of the “Tiller” is what gets all us
Tremblant Ski/Board Fans the Corduroy Trail Surface in the Groomed. With
what will probably be a Low Traffic Day, that may last for all Open Hours.
Below:
This is one of a few Fog-Free zones yesterday on Fuddle-Duddle Bas, Lower,
Versant Nord, The North Side. It’s a long Telephoto so that makes the contours
look close, but they were actually quite spread out and very smooth too.
It’s the Smoothness in all the Groomed Terrain yesterday that’s going to be
the key to today’s User Friendly.
Back To Basic’s...(B):
The 49(*) Open Trails are Either Primary or Very Well Sheltered Descent Paths.
Considering the High Standards of Opening Specifications that experience shows
to be very consistent here at Tremblant, we expect these Basic Trail pathways to be
not only smooth, but as well, to have a useful carving top layer of sufficient depth to
match the Green, Blue or Black rated Skill Level requirements of each one.

Graphic 3 Day Forecast Data:
Definite “Bundle Up” Advisory for Today!
Subject To Apres Ski Confirmation...
One Pic. Conditions Sample Forecast.
Here’s a sample from the Sunny day before yesterday, and we think we’ll
find Conditions like this out there today, so we’ll get back to ya on that later on!
We think that because it was snowing at the time the Temps were dropping
back below Zero, there’s a good chance the new snow bonded as the surfaces
were solidifying. If that actually happened, today’s conditions may well be
better than you might expect!
49(*) Open Trails on the Archival Copy of Official Open Trails,
Grooming, Snowmaking, Lift Status and Mountain Conditions
for January 13th, 2017, Courtesy of Tremblant.ca We anticipate a huge effort on the part of Tremblant’s Mountain Op’s
throughout today and tonight to restore Quality and Number to the
“Open” Trail List.
A good indicator of at least a portion of what you can expect for tomorrow
may be a review of the “Groomed” Icons in the Official Trail Status from YESTERDAY(**).
Our Experience from yesterday shows that Groomed List to be quite Up-To-Date,
so given that those Trails are already Smooth, rendering out soft, Ski/Board top
layers should be the easiest on those Trails to start with.
