1/28/17 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Apres Midnight, Apres Ski Edit @ 12:30 A.M.

Generally, conditions were Very Fine today, However...

There’s enough fresh snow to generate some mogul formations
by the end of the day.

The “Greens” are the most stable surfaces, the “Blues” can exhibit moguls
where surface soft new snow is subjected to a lot of traffic, and the “Blacks”
can reveal some Icy bits over the steeper pitches.

Basically, the Steeper the pitch, the more likely the Icy Bits and that was
compounded by the busy Saturday attendance numbers.

We took a “Re-Vist” look at Le Tunnel today and we promised an “After” shot
to go with this morning’s “Before”. We’ve added that shot below, in the body
of the Original Post, Below.

Bottom Line...

Tomorrow’s “User Friendly”, is the increase in surface density with tonights

Easy On All Accounts...

As soon as your Skis carry you down the slopes of Tremblant, you’ll know
what we mean.

There are times when everything seems to come together... That’s now...

Of Course... any time is a good time to be at Tremblant. Early, Mid, Late Season
conditions are always relative to Season-to-date accumulations, and many people
have time constraints that only allow them to travel at certain times, But...
when we get asked: “When’s the best time to Ski at Tremblant?”, we reply with
a qualified answer... If you don’t have any time restrictions and you could go
whenever you wanted to, we’d recommend End of January, February, Beginning
of March, because it represents what we have today:

The Fullness Of Seasonal Conditions Maturity.

Every Single Trail Is Open, and there’s a TON of Snow over all of it.

Yesterday was the first day of 100% Open Tremblant. This is the First Weekend
of 100% Open Tremblant. This is "The Fullness Of Seasonal Conditions Maturity.”

Actually, It’s just the beginning of what might be, at least historically/statistically
The Fullness Of Seasonal Conditions Maturity, because this completeness is
typically sustainable, even cumulatively build-able for about the next 6 weeks,
if you looked back over past decades.

For sure... every season has “Thaw” cycles, but the big advantage that Tremblant has
is the comparatively minor, or even missed altogether thaw periods due to a more
Northerly Latitude than its Regional peers, and “North” is usually better than “South”
when it comes to keeping Winter well sustained, and conditions more predictably
consistent.

The Next Phase we’re looking for is an extension in the run of uninterrupted 24hr.
Sub-Zero days that always realize peak optimization of Groomed Snow Surfaces.
We’ll look at the weather stat’s more carefully later on, but at this stage, just
anecdotally, it’s already been well over a week since any “Plus” value, above
Zero C temps have been exposed to the Mountain. Even though some days
have been quite close with South Resort Base at Zero or a degree above, at
cooler Mountain elevations, it’s been below Zero all the way around.

When Mountain Crews don’t have to compensate for, or recover from, any “Icy” bits...
all the grooming efforts end up being incremental improvements in Wall-To-Wall
seamlessness across the range of Groomed Green’s, Blue’s and Black’s with each
and every night-shift.

As we’ve seen in the past two weeks, this Snow Conditions “Fullness” has allowed
Grooming Operations to take place in areas like our week-ago case study of
Versant Nord, the North Side’s Trail # 66, “Le Tunnel” that might normally
not be groomed ever, or at least very rarely, sometimes for years.

“After”: Today... Pic Added as Up-Date, in Apres Ski.

Le Tunnel still has the Grooming foundation it received about 9 days ago,
but with lots of Traffic and some New, Fresh Snow, it is beginning to look
like it usually does, steep and mogul’d, although not even a Spec. of Ice.

Weather Notes:

Daytime High of -3C, and it was supposed to be Sunny??? Nope... Not yet...
Furthermore, it’s so totally “Grey” looking out there(at least on the visible
Sud, South Resort Base Level), that the chances of Sun seem remote at best.
Maybe the North will be different?

Moderate Sou-Westerly winds with some Summit gusty periods will be easy at
these mild winter temps that we’d expect to be somewhere around -7C or so.

This afternoon is forecasted to start Snowing after lunch and with a potential
for up to 5 or so cm’s, it should add a functional degree of enhanced smoothness
during the late afternoon.

Below:
What we really like is this 2 week, long range forecast that shows a very steady
24hr. Sub-Zero period that is going to be cool enough to Freeze-Dry some really
High Performance “Squeaky” Kool Overnight Snow, but still be “Easy” Winter
daytime highs. We think this is a Super Sweet Time Slot Coming Right Up.
If you’re a Regional Tremblant Fan with discretionary ability to attend...
Do Not Hesitate!

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
