T360 Mid-Eve. Apres Ski Edit @ 9:10 P.M.
It Was Somewhat Rainy, Sometimes Dry,
Somewhat Foggy, Sometimes Clear,
Sometimes Calm, Somewhat Warm,
Etherial and Serenely Peaceful... and...
100% Soft Spring Skiing Excellence.
3.1.17.Expo.Quad.Views.Expo.Bas.Lower.Valley.Cloud.Weather.d.jpg
No Doubt... Our Descente Poncho kept us dry, at least from the knees up,
however as we indicated this morning, the forecast did say the “rainy” would
let up and even stop, which it did, for an unspecified time that was variable
over the Mountain.
What was happening, was that the weather was passing over in bands of activity
and so it could be that you would be dry on Versant Sud, South side “Biere-En-Bas”,
while your friends were getting wet on the Expo Quad.
For most of the Afternoon, it was the opposite, really soggy Versant Sud, South,
TGV, and totally dry on the Expo Quad.
Here’s an afternoon sample of Sud, South Side McCulloch, the only south pic’s
we have, as wet made photography almost impossible. We jammed a Ski into
the lower corner for Colour/Scale Reference, but you can barely see the TGV
Quad which is only about 7 metres away in this Wide-Angle view.
3.1.17.Sud.South.McCulloch.Upper.Pitch.Views.TGV.Quad.Cloud.Fog.b.jpg
In the Mean-time, as an example of the “Calm”, “Clear” and "Soft Spring Skiing
Excellence", here’s Versant nord, North Side, “Sissy Schuss”.
3.1.17.Nord.North.Sissy.Schuss.Mid.Point.Superb.Soft.Spring.Carving.Snow.c.jpg
Sissy Schuss, a 1948 Tremblant Classic, was filled with the Carving Track Rails
of the Experts who were lapping up the Corduroy at the kind of extreme angles
you could only make when the traction and lateral grip are at the highest levels.
On a day when “Panoramic” views were very limited or non-existent, the etherial
quiet and calm peacefulness of Tremblant’s intimate inner spaces was Serenely
Beautiful and Surreally Smooth. The trees are shedding needles, so there is some
organic debris, but it is clean, soft and totally inconsequential.
3.1.17.Nord.North.Axle.Groomed.Super.Smooth.Spring.Soft.f.jpg
At some point, not exactly sure when, Soleil was closed, so the final Open Trail
count ended up at 62(*) Open Trails on Versant Sud, South and Versant Nord, North.
(Raw Text-Based Trail Status Data Attached below at page bottom.)
If you could dress to handle the warm wet weather...
the Skiing was Hook Up And Go... Rocket-Fast Thrilling.
Tomorrows Weather... Drops about 14C to -10C and supposed to start Snowing... now.
It may snow anywhere from “Minimal” to 6/7 Cm’s???
Sunny after 10:00A.M.???
The “Snow” part will be great for the re-freeze, if snow happens...
Otherwise, going from +4C to -10C you’ll be needing them “Edges” we talk about...
------------------ 7:37 A.M. Orig. Post ----------------
74(*) Open Trails on Sud, South, Nord, North, and Soleil Sectors at #Tremblant.
Edge Sector Closed today.
Firm, Fast, Fun... A Focus Feature on Versant Nord, North Side Trail #55
Jasey-Jay Anderson, yesterday’s Un-Official Thrill Ride Trail du Jour!
With the potential of Softer Pure Spring Conditions Today,
Jasey-Jay(et al), could be clinically superb Soft Carving Excellence.
2.28.17.Nord.North.Jasey.Jay.Anderson.Superieur.Signs.Of.Great.Skiing.Views.Expo.Quad.Peak.d.jpg
The whole descending right side off the Duncan Quad is a great favourite of many
Local Tremblant Fans, and for good reason as it offers a consistent pitch over a
long and true fall line that is a technical challenge of Edge-Hold over Gravity.
If You Have Good Quad Muscles, Jasey-Jay Anderson will reward you with
a long Fall Line Test of endurance when it comes to keeping those gravitational
forces from pulling you past the limits of Grip for turn after turn. If you do
heavy “Leg Press” exercise in the Gym in Off-Season, Jasey-Jay is a reason
you do many many sets of them, because you are going to need that raw
Rep after Rep reserve to stay Hooked Up all the way down this thrilling Speed Zone.
2.28.17.Jasey.Jay.Anderson.Haut.Upper.Views.Descent.Over.Expo.Vanier.Duncan.c.jpg
Just like every other Black Diamond rated Trail, you are going to find not only
the technical demands of it’s terrain, but Skiers and Snowboarders of “Other”
Skill Levels than Experts, trying to master new Challenges. When groomed
as it’s been maintained this season, it is a good candidate for Skills development
due to its width and the wide safety margins for passing that width allows.
2.28.17.Jasey.Jay.Anderson.Mid.Point.Views.Descent.d.jpg
The long sight lines on Jasey-Jay also enhance the skiers ability to anticipate
either the energy or the descent path well in advance, so the clearly visible
distance you can see forward allows you to set up your rhythm in a predictable
manner to accommodate the variations in the topography or to use more of the
width for longer traverses as a way to help control speed.
2.28.17.Jasey.Jay.Anderson.Mid.Point.Views.Descent.g.jpg
One of the reasons Locals appreciate this and other Nord, North Side Trails is
the distinct character of the rolling topography that helps define each Trail
within a spacial reference that is directly linked to the Speed and Turning radius
you can use to descend on it.
2.28.17.Jasey.Jay.Anderson.Bas.Lower.Views.Up.Over.Rolling.Topography.c.jpg
The Shape Of the Land Is Highly Suitable For High Performance Skiing/Snowboarding.
The Rises and Dips along its descent path are wonderful for the technical portions
of the turning sequence with particular reference to the “Unweighting” phase
that releases pressure on edges for turn initiation.
Jasey-Jay also has an excellent Runout as it joins on the exit with Superieur.
There is just enough pitch over the final crest to act as a Rocket Launch
onto the plateau that carries you back to the Lower Duncan Trail and the Nord,
North Base of the Duncan Quad.
2.28.17.Jasey.Jay.Anderson.Bas.Lower.Views.Down.Over.Rolling.Topography.c.jpg
Considering that Jasey-Jay Anderson is an Olympic Gold Medal Snowboard Champion,
this final Speed Shot off the last crest is totally appropriate for SnowBoarders who
can use the Speed to ride out the plateau back to Duncan.
Jasey-Jay is a Great Trail anytime, but it is particularly fine when it has the
Traction of either Pure Winter Snow or Pure Spring Snow to hold good edge
against gravity for a High Speed Mother Nature Roller Coaster ride.
Jasey-Jay is only one example of the superlative foundation that almost
all the Groomed Trails have at Tremblant now. The current “Warm Spell”
might have done much worse damage if not for the exceptional depth
this base has from the seasons first half, but thankfully, the reserve
held by this base has been able to tolerate the heat without showing
significant erosion up to yesterday’s closing. That is bound to change
at some point, but there’s still more winter and more snow to come
as we get down to the last 6 weeks of the Scheduled Season.
Equipment Notes:
Fresh Edge Sharpness Essential For
Optimized Performance On Any Skill Level. Period.
It’s Spring +/- ZeroC Daily Variability causing
Surface Thaw/Re-Freeze Cycles.
Weather Notes:
Believe it or not, but we’d have to say so far, the Pre-Season Weather Models
of The Old Farmers Almanac for this season have been generally close.
“Warm and Snowy”, but in today’s case, Warm and wet as the rain that was
forecast at 4:00P.M. yesterday, started about 10 hours later than initially projected.
PLEASE NOTE: The Rain Icons below are small and/or absent for Afternoon Open
Hours, so it may be a case where the entire afternoon could be Atmospherically
Dry, with Fast surfaces that are Pure Spring.
One of the aspects of the evolving weather forecast models we find interesting is
the tendency of the long range 14 day projections to trend either up or down in
the overall “Peaks” or “Valleys” of a line graph that sometimes favour the high
or low side by the time we actually arrive at any specific date. In the case of the
past several days, it certainly seems to be favouring the high side. Maybe that’s
an early Spring Pattern?
