3/29/17 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Apres Ski Edit @ 8:15 P.M.
Each of the past 3 days has had exceptional excellence in
it’s own way.
Today, the Mountain got the “Speed” back!
Yesterday’s softness that allowed “Carving” the Expo Pitch,
was replaced by “Firmness” and Fast! Any impediments to
Glide that were there yesterday with surface dampness, simply
did not exist today. With Sharp Edges, it was Rocket Fast today,
with good lateral grip sufficient for a Quad-Burning workout
on every descent.
Above: Toboggan was a great example of Surface firmness with very little
ice and towards the bottom, some softness, but overall very quick and
secure edging for the Trademark Toboggan Natural Roller Coaster effect.
Total Fun!!!
Below: There was one thinning spot below the mid-point crest, on the outboard
right side of the steep left hand turn, but with a cautious approach to the
crest, it was very apparent and a slight detour to the left side, closest to the
camera in this pic., and it was easy to navigate around. This was one of the
very few glitches anywhere on the Mountain, which considering it’s now the
end of March, is quite remarkable.
Over on the Nord, North Side, P’tit Bonheur was Near-Flawless,
quite close to perfect for very high grip performance with almost
no one on it. We waited for several minutes to see one other Skier
to give scale of size to this pic. below, and in the three runs we took
on P’tit Bonheur today, that was the only other person we saw on it.
It was like having your own private Ski Area!
Did You Say Sunny???
Yes, it was supposed to be a Sunny day...
and there were ever-so-brief flashes of sun
or blue sky, but overall...
Grey ruled the sky...
Did You Say Sunny???
When the Weather creates a Variable/Changeable Open Trail List,
sometimes by the hour...

A Quick Peek At Tomorrow’s Forecast... Subject to “If...”
-------------- 7:29 A.M. Orig. Post -----------------
63(*) Open Trails on Nord, North, Sud, South Sectors with Versant Soleil
on Progressive Opening, at #Tremblant .
You Can Spend Your Whole Day At Tremblant Doing This:
We are at that point where individual days can have vastly different
characteristics due to 3 or 4 degrees C on either side of the freezing
mark at Zero degrees C/32 degrees F.
In combination with Solar or No Solar, even more variability is possible.
The last two days have been examples of that, both great days, but both
quite different. The day before yesterday, firmer and very fast, yesterday
very soft and higher friction, but super-soft forgiving.
The common element through all of these variables has been the
impeccable smoothness of the Groomed Terrain, which soft or firm,
has been the basis for the outstanding Spring Skiing days so far.
You Can Spend Your Whole Day At Tremblant Cruising This:
Anyone who was here yesterday will confirm there was softness in
virtually all descents that on the steepest pitches, allowed Pure Fall
Line Carving due to the resistance offset against Pitch Angle and Gravity.
Any day you can Carve down the front pitch of Expo with very easily
controllable Grip and Radius is remarkable. The drawback was the
slowness in some of the run outs that were necessary to traverse in
order to get back to lifts.
With low, mid-work-week attendance, daily conditions are quite
durable. There’s just not that much wear that shows when there
are fewer people spread out over the vast expanses of Open Terrain,
so examples like Versant Nord, the North Side’s Marie-Claude Asselin,
Trail #64, shown here below, stayed virtually identical in conditions
all day long.
This Trail above is one of our basic diagnostic reference indicators because
it is not supported by early season snowmaking and it is in an area
that frequently gets Drift-in snowfall, so when conditions on this trail
remain stable it is typically due to abundant natural snow and the
consistent sub-zero temps to support its base. In addition to the fact
that it is a beautiful setting, and a technically perfect fall line descent
as a former lift line, all these factors are very positive for great conditions
in the surrounding sectors.
We are not exactly sure how today is going to end up.
There are too many tipping point factors of Temp’s, Sun
and Wind to be much more than a guess. The most likely
probability is that there will be some of everything including
some icy bits and some super-soft bits. Depending on the
forecasted Sun, or not, we could see it trend either way towards
Firm or Soft. What you need to do is be ready for both with
good edges and Ski/Board Base wax or coatings.
We’ll get back to you at Apres Ski with more on what actually
happens...
Conditions Utility Notice:
Warm, Soft, Spring Conditions can generate resistance that can
inhibit “Glide” on plateau’s and shallow pitches. Base Wax/Coatings
for appropriate “Warm” Temp ranges can be Hugely Beneficial for
maintaining Glide or resistance reduction on all surfaces and we
recommend you Wax/Coat Ski/Board bases accordingly.
Weather Notes:
Despite the forecast for Sun, the overcast is completely covering
the sky early this morning, so we take that as a sign of reduced
thermal energy that may contribute to cooler and quicker surfaces
at Mountain Elevations for at least morning, and possibly the whole
day today.
At The End Of The Day...
Every Spring Day At Tremblant Has Great Conditions
Within The Open Terrain. The daily cycles of Grooming
carry those conditions forward, and while there may be
variables in what is essentially a unique fingerprint for
each tomorrow, the biggest common denominator is
the overall Smoothness these talented Crews prepare
for us. Everything/Anything is always easier when it’s
Smooth to begin with.
