4/8/17 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Apres Midnight Apres Ski Edit @ 12:25 A.M.

A Day Of Many Contrasts.

Sunny, Cloudy, Firm and Fast,
Soft and Slow, Warm yet Cool,
...to name a few...

Some of the contrasts were between Morning and Afternoon,
Some of the contrasts were between Summit and Base,
Some of the contrasts were between Versant Sud, South, and Nord, North.
Some of the contrasts were between One Side of the Sky and The Other.

It was a Very Big Sky Over P’tit Bonheur. In our time
observing there, it seemed as though the weather was
breaking over Tremblant right above the La Crete/Alpine/Nansen
intersection adjacent to Upper Beauvallon. The clouds seemed
to be scrolling in from the North over the Intensely Bright Sky
background of the deepest Blue.

Technically there were all kinds of Snow,
but the primary surfaces were a blend of
Natural and Machine Groomed.

With Good, Fresh, Sharp edges, you could
hook up and go high performance, or get
instant grip for a Snowplow Stop, so once
again, very suitable for all Skill Levels.

There were segments of Excellence throughout the Open Terrain.

It would be fair to speculate that today may well have been
one of, if not the last, “Fast” Day, a day where Speed was no
problem. Last nights Sub-Zero dried out a lot of the stickiness
that was so apparent yesterday, and right from the beginning
this morning, you immediately knew all the “Fast” was back.

Tomorrow... After a Sud, South Resort Base Overnight Temp @ -3C,
which should put the Summit at around -7 C, it is quite predictable
that there will be some re-freezing, and a “Solid” Morning Base.
Sunny and quickly warming to +12 C by 2:00 P.M. or so, with rain
icons gradually building in late afternoon. Another day of contrasts,
but perhaps fair to say the “Sweet Spot” for tomorrow is going to be
between 9:30 A.M. and 2:00 P.M. You really need to Wax or Coat
Ski/Board Bases to optimize Glide when the “Warm” gets going.

The Official Trail Data Indicates Zero Snowfall Addition? However...

The Physical Evidence Suggests Otherwise.??

The snowfall actually began very sporadically in the morning,
but by noon hour the intensity increased quite dramatically
on Summit and Versant Nord, North Side Sectors.

We would estimate that in the course of Open Hours,
the accumulations were as much as 12/13 CM’s, or
roughly 5 inches or so. These accumulation references
are totally dependant on Wind Shaped Drifting, so “+/-“
as either wind shelter or wind exposure may cause variations.

It was still snowing heavily when we pulled out of the
North Side Parking area at 4:45 P.M., so there may be
additional accumulations beyond what we saw in the
Pic’s above.

Considering there was a lot of whining about the rain
that was happening at Sud, South Base Levels, we think
it’s entirely appropriate to point out that when temp’s are
floating around Zero C, up/down by +4/-4 C, South Side Base
Levels getting rain are frequently generate Summit and North
SNOW!!! .... Exactly like yesterday.

Due to the fact that the Mountain was Sub-Zero overnight,
All The New Snow will directly benefit Conditions today,
wherever it accumulated.

Where it did not accumulate, it may be Icy until such time as
the temps rise above zero C over any given vertical or elevation
cross-section of the Mountain.

There will be sectors of very sweet Winter-Like high performance
Carving and we’re hoping for a universal return to “Speed” as a
component of descent experience.

There will be Select Sectors Of Excellence
in todays conditions and it will require a
willingness to explore to find them, but they
will be there. More on that at Apres Ski.
