History may decide whether we’re Crazy or not to be out at 4:30 A.M.
on Opening Day morning to see what the Snow is like, but at the very
least, the pic’s prove we were there!

And... The Snow seems to be everything we’re hoping for in the ways of
Dry, Light, Cold Formed, very fine particle, high grip, low friction, easy, cool,
Primo Ski/Board Performance.

The next step might be to get out there and “Confirm” those performance
parameters are covering all those fabulous Opening Day Slopes!

With that thought in mind, the balance of todays reporting will need to be
Apres Ski, just because there’s no “Yesterday”, at least in terms of doing
your sport, to reference from.

And on top of that, it’s quite possibly going to be a record
number of Open Trails. At the very least, we think it’s going
to be one of the top two(?) or three(?) in terms of Open
Trails ever(?)... we’ll have to get into our own Archives on that...

Opening Day is a Tradition for many Die-Hard Tremblant fans,
and many other Ski/Board fans who know that for East Coast conditions
that might be on the skimpy side elsewhere... Up “North” at Tremblant...
relative to “South” in those other places, you are typically going to get
more “Winter” here.

All The Evidence You Need... for recognition that Tremblant is a great place to
come for Seasonal First Tracks is the “Where Are You From” Survey results
you can do for your own self in the Lift Queue or on the chair of any Quad,
or with your fellow friendly riders in the Gondola.

We know from years of our own experience, folks come from
all over North America, Central America, South America, the
Caribbean, the United Kingdom and even farther...

If you’ve scanned our Pre-Season Winter Weather article, or our
Chronological Pre-Season Snowmaking article, you know we have been
forecasting the combination of factors that can produce a “Super Season”
and that might seem even more relevant when you look at the Tremblant.ca
Press Release, which we have annotated in terms of how the present
circumstances refer to the Start of our Super Season.

Keep in mind that with more than usual Runs Open, and an
early Season crowd that is comparatively small, Open Terrain
quality should remain very high just because there is so much
space to spread traffic out over.

Be sure to keep a reasonable pace. After a long Summer off,
dormant muscles will get quite a shock, so be sure to be prepared
with adequate nutritional support for recovery, especially if you’re
here for multiple days.

Weather Notes:

The end of November, beginning of December can have
quite a mix of Temp’s below and above the freezing mark, but
in keeping with our hopes for consistent “Cool”, this forecast
looks very suitable for high volume Snowmaking production.
The absence of Above Zero’s is also the best sign for Base
quality remaining “Snow”, i.e., without “Thermal” stress.
We actually think it’s a very good way to start off, so perhaps
all we’d wish for on top, might be more forecast natural snow.

Conditions Notes:

Conditions will include a variable degree of Natural and Blown
Snow, over Groomed surfaces. Trail surfaces may have particle sizes
ranging from mostly very fine, as in small, to very course, as in large,
due to the initial trail surface construction.

The probability is that the “Fine” will be the vast majority as
recent Tremblant Seasonal Trail Openings have set new records
in finished quality. If you want anecdotal evidence of that, scroll
back to last years Opening(s) when for example, Versant Nord,
North Side Duncan Opened and it was as good as any Mid-February
day from Summit to Base. Tremblant Guests have gotten used to
very high Opening Trail Quality, and we have every reason to think
that will be the same this season.

Realistically, it’s still “Fall”, there have been thermal blips right up
to yesterday, so there could be some icy bits, but they should be small
and additionally, with so much Open Square Area, we think the lower
traffic density will mean less concentrated trail wear, and greater sustained
overall smoothness over the entire Open Trail range.

The low overnight Temp. forecast to Thursday morning should also
be an asset as “Cool” generally dries the snow out, rendering low
humidity, low friction, fast running surfaces.

People Keep On Asking Us... What Do You Think Will Be Open?

We think there may be as many as 10 to 12 Open Trails
as annotated below.

We could be wrong for any number of reasons, but all the indicators
still point to this approximate number, not the least of which is the
approximate “about a dozen trails” reference in the Official Tremblant.ca
Blog of 11.21.17.

It’s important to acknowledge that Mother Nature may effect the
available Opening Day Terrain Up or Down.

At this stage, we are leaning to the “Up” side, if anything,
because of the cool temps that should at least allow optimal
Snowmaking. If Mother Nature decided to contribute additional
Natural Snow at meaningful depth, then there may be the
possibility of “Bonus” Terrain. Any “Bonus” could also be
in the form of a more rapid, near-term terrain development,
allowing for “More” and/or “Sooner”, without specific reference of course,
due to any number of variables that are too complex to
precisely anticipate.

Bottom Line So Far @ 11.22.17...

Excellent, If not Record Setting, Opening Day Potential!

T360 11.23.17 Opening Day, Apres Ski @9:30 P.M.

If you’ve been asking where you can find some real “Winter”
to kick off your Ski/Board Season? Your answer’s right here...
(see below) "Depart Ici”, at Tremblant!

A Rare, Total Mountain Vertical, Summit-To-Base, Versant Sud, South,
and Versant Nord, North, Opening Day.

Not hard to tell that it was an overall Grey day, although away from
the Mountains self-induced Snowmaking Fog, there actually were
patches of blue sky, infrequent, but they did happen. There was the
occasional brightness at the Summit but that was often hard to perceive
due to the days only real guest challenge, vision. The small airborne snow
particles were being carried on the breezes and that meant it was hard to
avoid them plastering your Goggle lens if you got too close to the
Snowguns.

One area that seemed to be in the clear was P’tit Bonheur. It was just far
enough away from the main snowmaking and it seemed as though the wind
was just not pushing anything in it’s direction. We had multi runs there and
they were all easy with clear sight lines.

Here is a Snow Surface Sample from P’tit Bonheur and you can see
the very fine granular crystal.

Considering all the wild temperature fluctuations over the past
several weeks, the consistency in Groomed descents was quite even.
Crews produced a basic level of smoothness that made any of the
variety in particle sizes fairly easy to deal with.

Everything we wrote about the probability of low density traffic
keeping the overall smoothness seemed to play out in the reality.
The wide open spaces just did not show any serious stress or
undue mogul formations.

There were some Mogul’d areas, but almost all we saw also had either one
side or the other that had smooth passage. If you heard criticism, it was
likely from people who came winging over blind crests with way too much speed,
and at that point moguls can become airborne launchers. If you’ve been a reader
here before, you already know how much we recommend cautious speed approach
over crests, and this is exactly why.

Turning traction was directly proportional to Ski/Board Edge tune.
The Racers-In-Training, plus those visible Experts whose skills are
obvious, were the best examples of the true level of performance.

Beginners had P’tit Bonheur and Nansen Haut that could be cycled off
Lowell Thomas and TGV, respectively. Lessons for all Skill Levels were
in high gear all over the Mountain.

Tomorrows Weather, Temps Wise... -3C at Sud, South, Base Level.
A really easy day!

An Important Point To Remember:

Mountain Crews Opened a HUGE amount of Terrain today, and
under such variable weather over early to mid November, that
it seems incredible to us that it’s all so smooth. Particle size will
be rendered finer and finer and there will be a synergistic
enhancement with user traffic, so basically, it’s going to get better
with each days Grooming cycle and YOUR help! Do Your Part!
Get Out To Tremblant and take part in this Historic abundance of
Early Season Open Terrain!
