11/29/17 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Late Eve. Apres Ski.Workin’.On.It.Edition.@11:15.P.M.

No Matter anything else, a day that ends with this view here,
is still an Excellent Day.

Even if it was wee bit, just a little, “Icy”...

So here’s what we successfully and effectively used to keep

The Truth Is... we got a text from a First Tracks Friend... “Icy”,
so we chose a FIS/SL 158cm@12.5/T.R. These Skis Eat “Icy" For Breakfast.

So, We got some things wrong and we got some things right
in terms of predictive accuracy. You can read the Orig. Post
below, but short story is that the temps stayed + until after
the lifts Opened this A.M. After the lifts were Open, the temps
dropped and things got solid, even Icy, but not totally Icy.

Today was definitely not an extension of Yesterdays conditions
as we may have been optimistically hoping for, But... That does
not mean that it wasn’t a good day, it was a good day, just “Technical”.

This below is a shot on Beauchemin Bas, Lower, @ Mid-Aft.,
and the Ski-able nature of the top layers here are visible, however,
they were not very thick, so angulation had to be applied with
great and gentle care or lateral grip would not hold. Any “Jamming”
got you loss of turn control.

If you look at this pic. below, consider it “After” and the one further down,
at the top of our Orig. Post, as “Before”.
The coarseness of the surfaces today are evident. There were icy substrates,
however as noted, with FIS Level Skis, 158cm SL @ 12.M. Turn Radius, it was
rocket fast if you were careful with angulated edging force.

Both Pic’s below were taken at same place.

It was a good day to practice Short-Swing, Controlled Speed, Parallel Turns
on Soft Trail Edges.

Many Pic’s to process for Snowmaking and Grooming of New Open Terrain
Development, posted tomorrow A.M. ... Also, tomorrow will be a big leap forward
because of Over-Night-Shift Grooming over steady Sub-Zero’s... PLUS...
New Snow forecast for P.M.

In Yesterdays Apres Ski, we wrote about an “Intangible” element in Tremblant’s
Snow Surface Quality, and perhaps for the first time, yesterday while Skiing,
we may have actually captured the essence of that with this singular photograph
above.

Over Time, we have written about the "“Je ne sais quoi” Factor and attempted to
describe it or define it as a “Liquid-Like” or “Floating” sensation that somehow
in the execution of perfectly balanced technique, results in a sense of Suspended
Animation, what you might imagine as almost a Ghostly or Spiritual experience.
What the Pic. above captures for us is that difference between the absolute physical
attachment to the Skis, but at the same time, the smooth flow over a seamless
medium you can’t really see, but feels like it could be a cushion a hundred metres
deep. We have no idea if this will make sense to you, but because we were there,
it does to us, so the pic. speaks to us with those “Je ne sais quoi” thoughts in mind.

Years ago, someone wrote a book with the title “The Joy Of Skiing”.
That was Tremblant Yesterday, and so far, it’s been Tremblant this Season.
Each day has had it’s fingerprint of Unique du Jour, but starting out with
the vast square area of Opening Day, each successive day has had refinement
that has meant improvement in incremental stages.

The net result is an elevation of Early Season Conditions that Guest Feedback
frequently includes comparisons to great Mid-Winter Quality, in the First Open Week.

For Sure, the absolute number of Open Trails is not yet close to Mid-Winter, but
for this date in any historical review, it is a remarkable amount of Open Terrain...
and... what is available, definitely has Groomed Surfaces that anyone might call “Fine”
in any January or February.

It needs to be said that this experience may not be the same for everyone.
For example, people who primarily enjoy Hors Piste, Sous Bois, Glade, or
Big Mogul Skiing, are not going to find those things in this last week of November.
Even with that in mind though, we do feel that regardless of those personal
preferences, the current Open Terrain offers a superb environment for early
season physical training and conditioning. Doing “Turns” and getting “Vertical”
is always beneficial for the exercise value alone. Speaking of Moguls though,
Taschereau has been left as a Mogul Zone over recent days, so they do exist here now.

Last nights Sunset through the cloud cover offered the prospect of
some unique photography(which actually did not work out as well as
we had hoped), but... it did delay us long enough at the Summit, that
there had been a single Groomer Track down Beauvallon Bas, Lower,
from the TGV Quad Base, right to the top of Johannsen. So, we had the
unique privilege of “Last Tracks”, a fabulous hard carving run... almost
too good to believe!

We fully expect today to be an extension of the evolving Great Conditions,
moving forward. Any blips in the Temp’s have been very well integrated
within the daily Grooming cycles and as it turns out, the somewhat “Solid”
elements that may have existed on Opening Day, have just not been
here to any similar degree since then. All that’s happened is “Better”.

The overnight re-freeze is a bit of a Wild Card and the possibility exists
there could be more icy tendencies.

Traffic continues to be light, and spread out over so much Open Terrain,
there’s no real stress on any of it. There may be patterns of slick/icy portions
over crests or at confined intersections. As far as other hazards, the odd twig
or other small debris may be there, but that can happen anytime and does not
constitute any meaningful flaws.

In a relative sense, there’s been great Speed in each day too. Humidity
levels in the snow sometimes effect Glide, but typically if there’s a bit less
Glide, there’s a lot more applicable turning force when softer, more humid
snow really allows you to dig into full-tilt, edge-set, hard carving.

The idea of steady base refinement has certainly facilitated an Easy
Beginner and Intermediate experience too. Nansen and P’tit Bonheur
have both been soft, easy, responsive learning and practice environments
and that will only get better as we get closer to the inevitable opening of
Nansen Bas, Lower.

Weather Notes:

Supposed to be Sunny, eventually, but so far it’s still Snowing.

Mild temps and moderate winds, so will be quite comfortable today,
and by the looks of it... for next couple of weeks.

Fabulous Groomed Conditions over a Virtually Seamless Base
means an Early Season Ski/Board Experience of one of the highest
quality standards of Tremblant history.
