T360 Apres Ski, Early Eve. Edition @ 5:55 P.M.

Very Quick Apres Ski Update...

It did become Sunny!

However, it did not stay that way for long as the Overcast began
to roll into the neighbourhood just around 1:30.

Todays Skiing was very good with about 90% with a soft top layer
to get responsive edge set and turning grip. There were a couple of
icy substrate zones such as Beauvallon Haut, Upper pitch, and the
crest onto Beauchemin Bas, Lower, but with very low traffic, it was
possible to avoid most of them easily. There may have been others,
but we did not find them.

What we did like best about the day is that the +4 C forecast, did NOT show up.
Even the foot of Nansen was still firm at Last Run, so another Weather Bullet Missed!

Considering tomorrows forecast, this is great news because any “Head Start”
on thermal influence is undesirable, so at least todays lower than forecast will
hold the base stabilized for hours longer than if it had reached the potential
+4 C today.

It was nowhere even close.

If it keeps up colder than forecast, there could be much less effect
from any rain, and even further, if it keeps up colder than forecast,
it could be Snow, or be some snowy mix.

We don’t see any of the next days weather as being any kind of serious threat
to the Alpine Trail Base. The exposure is very short, maybe about 30 hours,
and then a quick return to Sub-Zero. It’s still Fall, these things do happen.

Dress appropriately and Tomorrows Skiing will be soft and very shred-able.

With All The Racers Around, They’re Hard Not To Notice...

So, Two Things To Start Off With:

1) There are Technique Elements All Skiers can Learn From Racing.

2) Racing Makes Better Breeds Of Equipment.

Number 1) Technique Development.

If you’ve spent any time as a Student of Ski Technique
either at the hand of an Instructor, or as an observer who
is actually capable of dissecting, processing, and implementing
useful elements of Ski Technique on your own level, you should
instantly recognize basics from Racing that can be used out on
the Slopes every day by normal people. Many of the same things
that make Racers fast, make Recreational Skiers Experts.

Number 2) Equipment Materials And Design.

If you have ever put Skis, Bindings, and Ski Boots on, and then gone down
a slope, you have benefited in a Materials/Design Sense from Racing because
the best technologies in equipment manufacturing that can make these Kidz
SAFELY Win Races, eventually get used and integrated into Consumer Ski Products
at all levels.

Tremblant is an excellent place to observe both.

Yesterday we wrote that we find the "Racer Kidz” Inspirational
and we wanted to expand on that with particular reference to the
Body Mechanics you can see first hand in the Practice Running that
so many Race Teams visit Tremblant for all season.

If you set aside any of the complex formats of instructional processes
and look at the pictures of Racers from one simple POV, we think you
can pretty quickly recognize One Common Denominator...

10 Points for you if you can guess it right before we say...

What Might Arguably Be The Single Most Important Thing In Skiing Is...
The Ability to Find, Control and Remain In...

“Balance” .

It could also be argued that we are wrong, or at least too narrow minded
with the use of the word “Racing”, when it should actually be “Competition”...

because... some forms of “Competition” are Not Racing, but still advance
Techniques using “Balance” as well as Materials and Design.

Here is an example of a non-Racing form of “Competition” and if you can’t see
the perfectly evident presence of “Balance”, you’d be clinically blind.

All Forms of Alpine Ski/Board based Competition have Infinitely Variable
Dynamic Forces of Energy exerting influence on the Participant and it is
our Hypothesis that no matter what those forces are, the single most
important element is the Competitors ability to exploit those forces
for Mechanical Advantage(doing things Faster or Better) within “Balance”.

The Point for Us Regular Ski/Board Folks out on the Slopes for a day is(maybe ?)...

All Forms of Alpine Ski/Board based Descent have Infinitely Variable
Dynamic Forces Of Energy exerting influence on the Participant and it is
our Hypothesis that no matter what those forces are, the single most
important element is the Skier/Boarders ability to exploit those forces
for Mechanical Advantage(doing things Faster or Better) within “Balance”.

Regardless Of “Racer”, “Competitor” or "Recreational Skier/Boarder”,
without “Balance" you could fall and hurt yourself...

Someone’s going to ask “What’s the Key to Balance?”
One possibility, the one we suggest, is “Hand Position”
Look at all these pic’s, and any other pic’s of Good Skiers/Boarders,
and you may find they all have that in common. A “Hand Position”
that is Up and Forward, facilitates Balance in the Dynamic Execution
of Human Mechanics for Alpine Snow Sports at all Levels.

There’s your Ski Tip du Jour...

Weather Notes:

Today is a One-Day-Only Mother Nature Sale on Sunny Spring-Like Skiing/Boarding.

Tomorrow, on the other hand, has seen several different versions
of forecasted Precipitation volumes. That could change again between
now and when “if”, or "it” happens. Regardless, it’s short and may be
temporarily damp, but we do not feel this will do any huge harm to
Trail Surfaces that have a very good frost and are very well compacted.
Those two factors can give surface layers more than enough stability to
shed off a single day of whatever.

Conditions Notes:

Based on the Weather Forecast... It’s gunna end up really “Spring-Like”.
Soft, Sunny Slopes you can do anything on.

The One-Day Advantage today has is the still very firm substrates that
will help neutralize and warmth from getting through. That will be applicable
to tomorrow as well.
