T360 Mid-Evening Apres Ski Under Construct @ 8:45 P.M.
Case Study: Versant Nord, North Side Expo Sector Up-Dates
as annotated Below, by Pic.#1 and Pic.#2, as well as
2 Expo Pitch Snowmaking Pic’s, further Below.
Please Note: This is only One Example Of Many Areas With
Currently Active Mountain Op’s. See All Activity Icons in
Archived Doc. included in Orig. Post.
The above schematic is annotated orientation for
the following 4 photographs.
Pic #1)
This portion of Sissy Schuss is not directly supported with
snowmaking, so it is not usually Open until later on but with
the recent large natural snowfall, it has enough Snow to both
Open and be further refined. It was left as a raw Powder Zone
initially, but yesterday morning it was Groomed on Descending
Right Side to about one Groomer width, so at least wide enough
to get down on a controllably smooth surface. Above and Below this
zone, the Grooming is at full, finished, Trail Width.
Pic #2)
La Griffe is a Local Favourite. These Big Bumps have been “Airing Out”
for a couple of days now, so whenever the finished Grooming is done,
it should be Wall-To-Wall Wide.
Two Versant Nord, North Side, Expo Trail Snowmaking Up-dates
as Annotated between arrows in Map Above.
We are very pleased to report that Snowmaking
on Expo is at Full Strength over the entire Upper Pitch
where the uneven rocky cliff is being buried by
metres deep Blown Snow. This is a Best Case Scenario
and perhaps the single most important element in
the construction of a stable base over Expo’s very
challenging upper pitch.
Everything that was Open and Groomed Today was close to
flawless. There were probably flaws out there in the Groomed
somewhere, but we never saw ‘em.
Of Course... the Hors Piste, Sous Bois, Glade,
Any/All Un-Groomed, is still at Low, Early Season
Depths that may have Naturally Occurring Hazards
Requiring Safe Navigational Speed Reduction Practice.
Looking for a basic Conditions Repeat for tomorrow,
considering any New Snow as a bonus when Groomed in.
More Snow Tonight!?!?!? The reason for the “?” is that
there are actually some Freezing Rain Icons in the Weather
Forecast. We continue to find it difficult to imagine that
with a -10C ambient South Base air temp, cooler by -4C
on Mountain Elevations? Our bet is still for all Snow, not
only tonight, but hopefully even after it warms up tomorrow
afternoon too.

58(*) Open Trails on Versant Sud, South and Versant Nord, North at #Tremblant .
One of the reasons the Skiing is going to be Great
Today, and all this Week is...
Preparing For The Christmas And New Year’s Holiday Season.
Christmas is only a week away, hard to believe, but it’s rushing up
on us very quickly now, so we think you’ll see the ongoing efforts
of Mountain Crews at the highest rates possible to maximize the
Open Terrain for the Holidays.
There’s been such an obviously strong start to the season that
when combined with the Weather Forecast, the future shows every
positive indication that this could easily be one of the most well
established and largest arrays of Holiday Terrain Open in a decade.

New Snowmaking Terrain Development.
Snowmaking on the Expo Pitch will excite a very large Local/Regional
Group of Tremblant Fans who are dedicated to this Run as one of their
primary reasons for going Skiing.
Going up the Expo Quad was interesting for a while yesterday as Crews
appeared to be Arch Welding to repair a water leak in the plumbing for the
Snow Guns on the steepest, central part of the pitch. This row of Snowmaking
Guns is the core of the “Big Bump” construction technique that has
been so effective for Opening Expo for the past number of seasons,
so we wish them all the best. The advantage in this particular section
is the ability to completely bury a very complex, uneven and rocky
portion of the descent with a deep blanket of Blown Snow in a series
of giant 15-20 Metre diameter “Big Bumps”. Those Bumps can eventually
be Milled Flat to produce an initial Level Surface on Opening Day 1,
that never existed in entire Seasons before this technique was started.
Another area of obvious Snowmaking is on Kandahar, Versant Sud,
South Side Summit Sector, adjacent to the Gondola line.
If you look closely, you’ll see that McCulloch, the trail to the immediate
left of Kandahar, has been prepared with Competition Fencing, so
evidently there are Race events very close at hand.
Open Trail Case Study:
Trail # 12, @ 12.16/17.17 “Erik Guay”.
Skiing down from the Summit on La Crete, the entrance to Erik Guay
is on the Left Trail-side, and here is what you currently can see labelled.
12.16.17.Versant.Sud.South.Eric.Guay.Ungroomed.Workout.b.jpg
Viewing Erik Guay from the perspective of a Local Mt.Tremblant Village
Hill-Side, you can see pretty much the entire Trail in this pic. below, as
the Screen-Left side arching trail with Big Bumps of Snowmaking, just the
way it is described as “Un-Groomed”.
12.17.17.Summit.Sector.Erik.Guay.Big.Bump.Open.c.jpg
It could be generalized that New Trail Openings now seem to fall into
4 basic formats.
1) Opened on Snowmaking.
2) Opened on all Natural Snowfall.
3) Opened on Natural and Snowmaking combined.
4) Opened on Either or All, Combined and Groomed.
What we have here with Erik Guay this Season is #3. We
would have to say there is a surprising amount of Positive
Support for this approach because the trail takes on characteristics
of a Giant Terrain Park which is especially appreciated by Kidz,
but also by Kidz of All Ages who all seem to have fun where ever
they get to run through these Huge topographical features.
Eventually, all Trails built and Opened this way get fully Groomed
and the outcome is always a near-flawless, level and even descent.
It is possible that Expo may also Open the same way for a number of
it’s First Days this season, but either way we support this concept as it
is being used on a rotating basis from Trail to Trail and over Season to
Season around the Mountain. It creates variety, interest, uniqueness,
and Fun within the annual process of increasing Skiable acreage.
Weather Notes:
Twice within the last 18 hours or so of projections, there have been
very whacky Freezing Rain Icons appear briefly, but we do not think
that we’ve ever seen such a thing when the temps are at -10C +/-.
Fortunately, in the case of today, those have been switched to Snow
Icons and we would continue to think that any precipitation at around
-10C would never be anything other than Snow.

Grooming, Snowmaking, Lift Status and Mountain Conditions
for Dec. 18th, 2017, Courtesy of Tremblant.ca
It’s a relatively quiet week before the busy Holiday Season,
so any chance you have to get out will be a great opportunity
to get some serious Skiing or Boarding vertical with very light
traffic.
Open Groomed Trail Quality Is Very High and New Opening
Terrain Comes On-Line At Equally Well Finished Levels.
Every day is seeing Refinement, so Tremblant continues
to literally improve daily on a Base that’s been Great to
start with.
