94(*) Open Trails at #Tremblant .
Please Note: Versant Sud, South, and Versant Soleil
are on initial “Progressive” Opening status due to
high wind velocity. First Tracks cancelled for today.

Otherwise... once everything gets going,

For Those Who Celebrate,

Here’s Your “Merry Christmas” Present!!!

We Think It’s A Record Dec. 25 “Open” Trail Count Since 1939.(**)

In-So-Far-As the initial “Progressive” Status, here’s a Peek at the Peak...

This is where the “Breezes” will be focused and could consequently
generate the potential opening delays as they come TOWARDS you,
over the Summit in this pic..

Regardless of any Opening delays, the Skiing and Boarding
on these surfaces should all be very fine, with one Caveat.
That is... where wind can really concentrate over Crests
and around some converging topographical features, there
may be Icy bits that need caution to navigate around.

From a purely Clinical, Seasonal, point of view, Versant Nord, the North Side has
held the best ambient Surface Qualities due to the primarily “Lee Side”,
i.e., “Wind Sheltered” benefit of being protected more often from the erosive
affects of surface winds. As is typical of the Seasonal Prevailing South-West
air flow, the Mountains Peak actually generates a “Back-Fill” vortex action
over the Summit which can frequently cause Versant Nord, the North Side
to get substantial snowfall deposit beyond the statistical accumulation for
any given time period. That has definitely been the case often this season
and Tremblant Guest feedback supports that observation.

The POV Above is one of the most frequent diagnostic locations we use because
it is literally a centre of observable differences between Tremblant’s two main
sectors, Versant Sud, South and Versant Nord, North. Within 20 metres of this
very spot, one can see both the Difficulty Challenge and Benefit Bonus created by
the wind.

Below is a shot from 4 days ago, taken within 20 metres of above,
but facing the opposite direction.

It should be noted that when the wind is from the North or Nor-East,
opposite the S-W Prevailing's, as it has been for the past 5 days or so,
the affects can be reversed across the Summit, as it is likely to be today.

To add complexity to the whole situation...A) the velocity can make or break
which side gets more snow deposit depending on if it has sufficient speed
to actually carry it across the top or not, or B) pre-existing surfaces that
may have already been either solid or snowy can have highly variable rates
of snow retention if it’s easy for wind to push snow off, or C) Trails that are
really wide, or wide and steep are more susceptible to any significant high
speed wind activity, regardless of direction.

Bottom Line:

Complex Weather Factors Will Generate A Unique Fingerprint Today
That Require Careful Initial Explorations, but will have overwhelmingly
Very Fine Conditions.

We Are Not Sponsored By The Ski Shop.
We pay for our Tune-up’s like everyone else,
and we recommend them because they have
a Wintersteiger Discovery II CNC Automated
Ski Tuning Machine(arguably the best in the World)
that is very gentle on the bases and edges, yet
produces super sharp finishes and the Staff are
very experienced and knowledgable.

Please Note: The Orig. Archived/Recorded Official
Trail Data showed 94(*) Open Trails, however, that was
reduced to 92 during the course of the day, so that’s
what we used for this Graphic.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
