Groomed Alpine Trail Surfaces were Very Fine and if there were
any signs of stress on them, it was due to the large attendance
numbers. We can tell you for a fact though, that were great
descent lines every single minute of the entire day, right up to,
and including, Last Run.

It was a very busy day on the Mountain and there were
modified Lift Hours due to mechanical issues. These things
happen from time-to-time. Unfortunate for sure, but at least
it was warm compared to recent days, and according to the
forecast, warm compared to tomorrow.

As far as the “Busy” part, we think it may have been the
busiest day of the season so far. Lift lines were longer than
usual. The longest we personally waited was 9 minutes,
however using the Far Side Singles lines frequently, our
average wait might have been 5 or less. We were not
personally involved with any lift issues, but we understand
Tremblant operated the Expo Quad and the Lowell Thomas
Triple for extra time. Due to the big attendance, we got
onto the Duncan Quad at 3:38 for Last Run.

Above.
While the Groomed was every bit as good as we expected,
the Hors Piste, Un-Groomed has a lot of “Wild Cards” that
have some unpredictable hazards as they are not yet at full
seasonal maturity.

Looking closely at the Pic. above, you can see the small Plant
Stem Growth poking up through the snow. By Mid-Feb., this
usually looks a lot fuller with Snow. Bottom line is that if
you’re going for Un-Groomed, you need to be prepared for
Hazard Avoidance.

As far as tomorrow is concerned, very low temps, back to
Minus 21C at Sud, South Resort Base Levels, and the big
Elephant in the room... the wind at close to 30KMPH.
This combination can produce Wind Chill values down to
-40C/-40 below Zero F., or lower with Gusts factored in.
Obvious safety issues, and with these speeds, potential
Lift issues as well.

To put the pic. above into perspective, the fact that the Skis are
physically less than 3 metres from the Upper P’tit Bonheur
Trail-Side is everything you need to know about the foundation
of the absolute quality of the Groomed Trail Surface immediately
adjacent, as well as virtually all the Groomed Open Terrain over
the entire Mountain.

This Is Primo, Cold Formed, As Light And Fluffy As Dust, Very Dry,
Very Fast, And Very Low Resistance, All Natural, Powder Snow.

Compacted and Groomed into the Base wherever indicated in
the Archived Copy of the Official Trail Data below...

This Is Simply Some Of The Finest Snow You Will Ever Ski On.

One of the unique co-factors in the evolution of todays Alpine Trail
Surfaces is the Super Cold that has been affecting all of Eastern North
America over the past 10 days or so. As the primary cause of “Dryness”
in the snow crystals, the upper layers of trail strata are almost universally
only highly compacted snow with very little in the way of Icy bits.
It would be unrealistic to say there are no icy bits, because with the
occasionally vigorous wind and traffic concentrations over some descent
paths, icy bits can be exposed, but they are very small in dimension
and almost always in recognizable patterns, so easy to navigate either
over or around.

The thickness in appearance is not mirrored in surface resistance
because the new snow is so light and dusty that it does not present
any significant drag as ski tips encounter it in built up or drifted in
portions.

We wrote yesterday about the natural “Banking” effect that Carved
Turning Technique benefits from and that was a very joyful component
of the Performance yesterday over virtually all of the Groomed Terrain.
There was a very high level of Confidence in the reliability of the traction
that grew with repeated descents that one after another, delivered the
same consistency each and every time.

We expect that to be a “Carbon Copy” repeat for today.

For Beginners and Intermediates, this is super soft cushion snow that
is wonderful to learn or improve on because of the low resistance that
also makes it Fast for Experts. There are some days when lots of fresh
snow can make things feel a bit “Thick”, for Beginners, but so far, this is
not one of them.

The Other Huge Advantage We’re Enjoying Yesterday And Today
Mornings...

20 Degrees C Warmer!

As much as we appreciate the advantages of Super Cool Snow,
not having to deal with -30C’s is a big relief in the comfort department.
What we still have though, is all the performance.

Weather Notes:

It looks like we’re going to have one final shot of “Cool”
for the next couple of days. Not the greatest timing for
Weekend Warriors, but for sure the Skiing/Boarding will
be on Great Surfaces and it should all be Rocket Fast.

Conditions/Traffic Notes:

It was busier on the Mountain yesterday than we thought it might
be, however, there was never any significant wait once the first
rush seemed to clear on the Gondola. Other lifts had variable
short waits, and if you could use the singles lines, it was mostly
ski right on all day.

It appears as thought that will be a similar situation today.

There were loads and loads of Learners of all Levels, so in
a few places, you had to be cautious with speed around
group concentrations, but there were also many many times
where you were alone on the Trail. The fact that the Mountain
is 100% Open make for lots of alternate descent options if
you want to avoid traffic.

By any Historical Standards you can think of for January 4th,
Tremblant is somewhere around 2 to 3 weeks ahead of average
Open Terrain development.

For Locals/Regionals, it means Superb Early Season Conditions,
For Far-Away Tremblant Fans anticipating upcoming Ski/Board Holidays,
it means confident reassurance in the prospects for outstanding
mature seasonal conditions when you arrive.

For Last Minute, Spontaneous, Escape To Ski inspired travellers,
it means you should toss your gear into the vehicle and hit the Highway
for Tremblant A.S.A.P.
