1/21/18 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Apres Mid-Night, Apres Ski Edit @ 12:56 A.M.

On the ride up, it was apparent that you’d be
very close to the Clouds. Viewed from the base,
the Summit was either just below, or just
into the cloud all day.

Many many Race Teams visit Tremblant and Coaches were
busy with all kinds of support work to maintain courses.

The vast majority of surfaces were soft and smooth.
Guest traffic definitely decreased after lunch, as is
common to Sunday afternoons when folks start to
hit the road back to “Theirtown”.

There are some Icy substrates, but your sense of them
will be directly proportional to the recency of Edge
Tuning. We recommend a light Tune-up every 10 days
of use if possible. Fresh, Sharp Edges are a HUGE asset!

The Spirit Of Tremblant

A Fantastic F.I.S. World Cup Freestyle Mogul Competition!(**)

There will be almost endless Video Clips and Insta-Pic’s of this event,
much of what will be focused on the Winners, however, as amateur,
practical photographers, what we often get are “Moments” that speak
volumes about the Essence, the Spirit of precise records of any events,
and that’s what we want to focus on.

Marc-Antoine Gagnon/Start Gate.

You would pretty much need to be blind to miss the element of determination
in Marc-Antoine Gagnon’s expression in the Start Gate above.

We chose to use this pic. above because while “Still” photography can not
capture every second, it sometimes captures a whole attitude far beyond
what that glimpse would mean as a frame in a streaming vid.

Below, about 15 seconds later, Marc-Antoine is completely inverted, spinning,
about 8 feet or so over the Top Jump and we managed to catch that
moment too. Action generally needs a quick shutter speed, but in this case,
the flat light prioritizes a longer one, so we end up with some motion blur.
We think it sort-of adds to the sense of speed Marc-Antoine is moving through
the frame at. Our Observations are that the Focus Point(s) in these types of
long-shutter, stop-action, are sometimes the Axis Of A Rotation. If you look closely
at M-A, you can see what seems to be a rotational axis from his head, through
to his Right Femur, in a straight line, aimed to the focus point on his Right Ski.
We think the rotation becomes even more obvious by the apparent speed and
consequent blur of the Ski Tails that are traveling at a far greater speed and
distance, because they are farthest point away from the Axis.

Unfortunately, Marc-Antoine experienced a binding fault in the mid-section
that cost him the run, but until that moment, his Spirit and Determination
gave him a profoundly confident presence within the competition, and of
all the pic’s we got, we think it best captures the esprit de corps of all
of Team Canada’s Freestyle Mogul Team, and even beyond that, all the
Competitors in the whole Event.

From a Practical Photography POV, yesterday was a very
complex shooting environment with ambient overcast and
from time-to-time, even very fine airborne misty cloud particles
that were never rain, but not snow either, just another layer
of filters that makes for challenging light conditions.
More on that later...

Competition Improves The Breed.

Technique that Wins World Cups, always has elements that can
be Directly Applied to Recreational Skiing, so literally what gets
the “Gold” also gets you a better Skier, and for that reason, we
are always inspired as witnesses to Top-Level Competitions.

“They Don’t Just Hold World Cup Events Anywhere...”

As we said in a Tweeted Reply yesterday...

The Terrain and Infrastructure all need to be exceptional.
We think that adds up to #Tremblant !

Let’s say you’re part of the really big Group from
the University of Waterloo, Ontario, and you’ve

Our apologies for very late start on posting today,
but it took may hours of close to all night, Night-Shift
processing to find optimized POV’s due to the very high
loss rate between Fast-Action/Flat Light, and even then,
still way far from ideal?

(**)World Cup Competition Events are Definitely
“You Had To Be There” experiences. As good as
Broadcast Television or Streaming Video is(2018), there is
no Camera on Earth, and No Display Device, that
can adequately render the sense of spacial orientation
that the human eye captures in reality.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
