2/9/18 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Apres Ski Edit @ 12:38 A.M.

Virtually everything we were looking for
in the naturally occurring refinements of Surfaces
and Performance became reality. This is the big
benefit every Night-Shift of Grooming brings
in daily, 24hr., stable Sub-Zero C temps.

Practically Speaking...
We expect a repeat for Saturday, but with the added
bonus of more forecasted Snowfall.

T360 Trail Case Study, Versant Nord, North Side,
Trail # 57, Devils River, @ 2.8.18

(Please Note: At This Precise Time, this basic
conditions review is generally scalable in both
size and condition to the Entire Mountain and
Relatively Speaking, Across All Skill Levels.
The past several days of Natural Snowfall has come
at similar levels of intensity, from Wind Directional
Rotations throughout all 4 Compass Points.
This has Aggregated to a Multi-Day, Mountain-Wide,
Incremental, Hugely Positive Net-Effect.)

The Snowfall of yesterday that every single Tremblant Guest will
Benefit from today... arrived with vigorous density and rate of
accumulation over virtually the whole Mountain. As usual,
the bands of the highest intensity traversed the Mountain, so
depending on where you were, i.e., North, South, Soleil or Edge
Sectors, you were either in, or could see immediately coming,
very heavy Snowfall. This pattern basically kept up all day.

Pic. Above:
We were on our way to do this Trail Case Study of Devils River,
when we got the lead shot for todays Post, and you can see that
this was a period of very dense snowfall. We consider ourselves
very lucky that the Snowboarder slid into the frame at this exact
moment because it illustrates the “Fluffy”, Dust-like characteristics
of this very light and dry Powder Snow far better than words could
convey.

Pic. Below:
Moving Down and continuing on with Devils River, we turn and
look back up towards the top entrance where the Duncan Quad
runs just above.

2.8.18.Devils.River.Haut.Upper.Views.Duncan.Quad.Super.Smooth.Snowfall.c.jpg (494.51 KiB) Viewed 1804 times

As Smooth as the Foreground is and looks, what you don’t quite see
in the Snowfall-Filtered picture is the slight wavy unevenness in the
steeper initial descending surface that is only because of the rapidly
building depth that is not yet Moguls, but is just starting to become
the basis for moguls.

Devils River is a Single Black, Expert run, so in this condition we would
call it an “Easy” Black, and the slight waves in the surfaces from so much
snow, were very easy to either use as Jump Turn ramps or to blast straight
through them with aggressive carving. Either way, very soft snow surfaces
allow almost any style of descent to work very well and look excellent.

The middle portion of Devils River is a more gentle slope, so at this point
the waves of the upper portion simply do not exist and it’s smooth enough
for an Intermediate Skier to look good here, even with a bit of thickness
in the top layer. It’s so light that there is just about Zero resistance in it,
so all speed control and directional moves are very quick and effective
to make.

What you can also see in this pic. above, is a Gap in the intensity
of the Snowfall. There is about 2 minutes difference between these
3 above, as well as over 500 metres in descent path. There is
even the intermittent brightness that almost looks like Blue Sky
peeking through, which is exactly what it was.(If you look at Yesterdays
post, the pic. at the Top of Beauvallon over Lac T. shows the Sunny bits
moving across the lake. In time, those quick passing Sunny Bits might
have been 90 seconds worth.)

We did not stop in the mid-section because it was too much fun.

Devils River Was Groomed Flawlessly and possessed surfaces that
we think will hold Edge-Set over 1G of lateral turning force.

Holding Complete Longitudinal Edge-Set, Roller-Carving, Surface Contact Turning
at the upper limits of Grip, when centrifugal force is trying to compress you...
is a test for both muscle power and control, and in short bursts of very tight
radius, incredibly Fun Exercise, or as we like to say... “Better Than Any Gym
On The Planet!”. Arguably one of the very best High Performance Carving Days
Of The Season.

The final shot above is the Run-Out to Lower Jasey-Jay Anderson
(Devils River is the Run-Out on Frame Right.)
then back to Duncan, and the Nord, North Base of the Duncan Quad.

(**)The Other 5% You Can Figure Out When You Get Here...

Page under Progressive Assembly,
but all you need to know is...

If you are a regional Tremblant Fan, you should be making
whatever excuses you need in order to leave immediately.

If you are a Far-Away Tremblant Trip Planner, Your Enthusiastic
Anticipation Is Completely Legitimate, and you should be
going to the Gym every day(if you can(#)), to do serious sets
of Leg Presses because you will want to have some Muscle
built up in order to take advantage of this Abundant and
Superb Terrain that is at a Peak Of Seasonal Maturity.

If you’re Sitting On The Fence about going Skiing at Tremblant...
you’re “Nuts” if you don’t...

(#) Not everyone has access to a Gym, so in that case, you can
use one or two heavy objects to do sets of standing squats at home,
or do sets of Stair-Climbs in your Building. If you live in a warm climate,
even walking for an hour or so every evening instead of watching
the T.V. will add immeasurably to your Aerobic Capacity.
The Point Is: you are going on a Ski Holiday and ANY Pre-conditioning
you can do is going to be an asset.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
