It’s a little thing they call “Spring”. It was bound to happen at
some point and today will probably see some of the first
Mountain-Wide evidence of the next phase of the season
that typically includes thermal sources of ambient air temp’s
above Zero C, Solar Radiation, and Overnight Sub-Zero’s.

Up to now, and generally speaking, the story has been
a wonderful example of sustained “Winter”, even though
by almost the narrowest margins imaginable. Except the
last little Arctic-Like 5 day Super-Kool re-boot, the temp’s
were floating within a basic -1C to -5C and the Sky was largely
overcast, so there has been an almost miraculous, but totally
winter period of extended “Easy” for several weeks.

During that time, and right up to yesterday and this morning,
the highlights have been more Snowfall and Refined Grooming.

Below is a great example from yesterday that you will be able to find
nearly identical today on Versant Nord, the North Side, Trail #82, Expo.

What you see above and below is genuine winter “Shred”
Groomed Snow performance after some very unusual
overnight -20C’s that freeze-dried the most recent 17cm’s
snowfall and rendered out some really excellent surfaces over
both Expo and the whole Mountain.

The difference that we think you’ll find apparent today is the
very probable softening due to the daytime projected high of +5C.

By last run, this “Shred” performance may look similar to the camera,
but underfoot, it’s likely to begin to get that soft, spring feel, and
there may be a tendency to build moguls as repeated traffic passages
generate overlapping, wearing, track lines.

It is possible that there may be enough supporting frost in the substrates
to maintain a level of mogul resistance for days, especially with the recent
5 day cold span, however that could be highly variable depending on numerous
factors including, but not limited to, wind speed and direction, Temp’s at
elevations, Sun or Overcast, Traffic Volume, Grooming Cycles, More Snowfall,
Overnight Sub-Zero Temp’s, etc., etc.

What we have written before still applies:

If you want Optimal Conditions, plan for attendance “Sooner”, if you can.

Clinically, this statement applies to "Square Area Coverage" and "Surface Quality"
being directly proportional to “Warm” and “Spring”. It is specifically intended
to encourage ASAP Skiing/Boarding in the remaining 3.5 weeks of the Official
Season(#).

In a whole day of exploration yesterday, the only glitch we found was a
small icy bit on Cossak(#84), and it was very easily identifiable and equally
easy to navigate around. Otherwise, Cossak was near flawless.

Very Important Repeat:

What we have written before still applies:

If you want Optimal Conditions, plan for attendance “Sooner”, if you can.

(#)The remaining Official Season is 3.5 weeks,
ending at April 15th, 2018, However... it is not
uncommon to have seasonal extensions IF the
Snow And Other Logistical Resources Permit.
The current strongest Co-Factor is 491cm’s
of Natural Seasonal Snowfall.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
