1) It’s Winter Conditions. Open Surfaces are as good as any average February day.
It got down to -11C at Sud, South Resort Base, so as low as -15C or so
up top. That gets you Winter Snow.

2) The Carved turns you see here, made by those Vintage, Full Camber,
Atomic ST 11’s were made about 60 seconds before the pic. was snapped
and you can already see the wind has begun to fill the ones in the foreground
in with blowing snow across the Summit. The wind was certainly strong, and
not only was it was moving tons of snow across the top, but it was generating
Desert Sand-Wave patterns in the moving snow, an excellent indication
of the very dry, low friction nature of the Snow crystals.

Additionally, the easy performance of the “Low Friction”
mentioned above, was evident on all Skill Levels of
Groomed, so for Beginners and Intermediates...

It Doesn’t Need To Be Steep To Have Fun!

Conditions Notes:

Regarding Groomed:

Due to the rise in temps today, we feel the conditions may
seem more “Forgiving”, in the sense that there should be
a generally softer top layer for edging. It may not be as fast
later on today for the same reason, as the softness becomes
more prevalent across the whole Mountain.

Regarding The Sous Bois, Un-Groomed, Hors Piste...

This Picture Above is not Sous Bois/Glade Terrain, but it
is effectively a “Cross-Section”(looking down the Fence-line)
of whats covering a big bunch of the Hors Piste, Glades,
Un-Groomed, and it illustrates what we think is the exact reason
there are closures for safety in the Sous Bois/Glade Terrain.
If you look closely at the right Ski, you will see the Ice Crust in
relation to the soft snow underneath. This is where the problem
is because if your Ski(s) break(s) through the Ice Crust, it is just
strong enough that when you try to pull your Ski Tip up through it,
the amount of leverage you have at the tip of the Ski, under the ice,
is not even close to what you need to pull them above, not to mention,
your Body Weighted Skis tend to want to remain submerged in the Soft
Snow underneath as you are moving. So, your Ski Boots actually
do the Ice Breaking, but your ability to manoeuvre turns is close
to ZERO. We saw too many tumbles to count 2 days ago when it first
happened, and we may need to wait for some natural Spring Heat to
ultimately render it soft enough to navigate safely everywhere.

The Good News for the Sous Bois/Glades and Un-Groomed, is that
the basic Snow has not gone anywhere, so when “Spring” heat finally
does work on it, there should be some prime terrain ready to use
once the Icy Layer gets absorbed.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
