11/25/18 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Apres Midnight Apres Ski Edit @ 1:07 A.M.

As Far As Mountain Elevations Were Concerned Today...
It was mostly a Cloud-Fog Day that had a mix
of drizzle, sleety-drizzly big snowflake snow, small snowflake
snow, fog, mist, really fine mist, and more fog.

The Skiing was spring-like, super-shred, mega-carve,
smooth, virtually mogul free, and fast. Everything open
was very fine to excellent.

If we turn up and burn up contrast, highlights,
definition, sharpness and exposure, we can make
some of the detail more evident in this excerpt
from above, posted below.

Virtually all open surfaces have these very high performance
qualities, and as you can see in the detail above, edge-set was
very, very easy and very effective at any safe speed.

Vision was a speed inhibiting factor, because airborne
particles of moisture(that was not rain for us), ended
up coating lens, so it was not unusual to see folks skiing
with goggles up and bare eyes.

We had Yellow Lens eye-ware, so with contrast and
detail restored, we had no problem, but... photography
was far, far from good.

It was one of those days with clinically excellent skiing
that was accessible to anyone who can master vision
issues, if encountered. For at least part, if not most
of the day, when it was just fog, you could get away
with good speed with periodic swipes across goggles
to move off the misty particles.

Here is an Apres Ski, Info. Ski Field Report...

Clinically Speaking, the Skiing is actually quite fine!

Basically Summarizing: The vision issues were variable, as atmospheric
activity passed through in bands, so there were many
times when sight was easy, particularly on lower sectors.
The Skiing was excellent everywhere.

Monday Forecast: With temps floating around Zero C
at Sud, South, Resort base Levels, there are too many
wild-cards in the possible precipitation, however, up
on the Mountain it could be mostly, or even all snow.
One things for sure, the temps are easy mild.

There are times when rising temps can generate Speed
and that’s exactly what we got yesterday.

Not sure how that will play out today, but we think there’s
a good chance it will be similar.

The joy of having a High Speed Detachable Quad at
Lowell Thomas can not be overstated. 8 minute laps
on P’tit Bonheur are surreal and excellent early-season
conditioning. We are eagerly anticipating 7 minute laps
on Banzai, Marie-Claude Asselin, Lowell Thomas, Rope Tow,
La Traverse, Rigodon, Short Cut, Beauchemin Haut, et al,
when we have fully open, mid-season conditions.

We continue to support the notion that this new lift may
positively alter traffic flow on the whole Mountain as it
offers such quick access to such excellent terrain that it
may become a new, and popular “Destination” centre within
the Tremblant Alpine Trail Network.

What we think may happen is that the solid base is still cold
enough to act as a barrier and for the most part, moisture
will either be shed or absorbed in initial contact. We do not
anticipate significant erosion because the precip. is mostly
drizzle or light rain, forecast to end around the noon hour
and the temp @ +1 is not enough to amplify thermal effects.

This thermal influence is brief, and there are sub-zero overnight
temps. and snowfall in the forecast for Monday.

Conditions Notes:

Despite the rise in temps., it is our forecast that due to
the very well established base that 48 hours ago was
just coming out of a -30C Summit level exposure,
conditions should hold on to both coverage and speed.
We hope to confirm that as reality at Apres Ski.

Odds are, the speed over surfaces may be rocket fast as
moisture acts as a lubricant, however, the big challenge as
far as speed/safety may be the vision related issues of Cloud/Fog,
The outright drizzle/rain of early this morning is forecast to
halt at around noon, so if nothing else, this afternoon will
be easy warm at around Zero C.

We continue to experience time absorbing challenges
