EARLY 2:35 A.M. POSTING “HEADS UP” ALERT:
See Attached Environment Canada Travel Advisory
Attached Below.
Weather Notes:
Easy mild temp's, snowy, gusty, windy, January day today.
Wind chill will be a factor, but with the forecasted high
this warm(up to -4C), it should be not too hard to deal with.
But for tomorrow...
Temps drop like a rock overnight, tonight, and early
morning tomorrow at -25C with a potentially big wind
is going to put very different cold weather challenge
into personal utility. All those layers you had out 2 days
ago, well, you’re going to have to get them out again.
It should be noted that the wind is actually forecast to taper
down to almost calm by sunrise tomorrow, so if, if, if that
happened, emphasis on “if”, the ski-day would certainly be
a lot easier than the “Howling” that is probably going to be
heard all night.
Basically, the indications are that the weather front may
pass very quickly, leaving us with a cool, but mostly sunny,
clear day, with temps rising to around -16C.
Despite the early cool, Skiing will be excellent though,
so bundle up ’n go!
Conditions Notes:
For today:
Everything is easy relative to posted terrain ratings,
however, the big wind component which is forecast
to be very gusty could have effect on lift operations.
For tomorrow:
Excellence in all respective trail ratings is completely
unattached to temperatures, but obviously there will
be great attention to detail in adequate garment strategies,
so with that being said...
The groomed open trails will all have the benefit of
more new snow and another night-shift of compaction,
so with comparatively light mid-week traffic, we would
fully expect exceptional all-day quality in smoothness
and performance.
In the Sous Bois for tomorrow, there could actually
be some exceptional drift-in created by the wind
vortices swirling over the Summit that have tremendous
potential for Back-fill in the lee-side topographical contours.
Look for significant Sous Bois, Un-groomed powder
snow drift-in throughout the Lowell Thomas Sector,
as well as the Edge Sector.
Depending on the unknown dimensions of todays
snowfall and Nor-West wind forecast, those drift-in
benefits may be in the areas mentioned above,
later on today.
