12/5/19 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Early Eve. Apres Ski Edit @ 7:13 P.M.

We would have to say that the Snowfall Tremblant has gotten
so far today is substantially larger in volume, size and thickness
of the snowflakes. Additionally, the sustained intensity of the rate
of fall is greater when compared to yesterday.

Here is an example of greater intensity while skiing Sud/South Taschereau,
it’s quite obvious that there’s a lot of snow in the air here and now.

There were still intermittent qualities for all of those parameters
i.e., super thick, heavy snowing one minute, a gap in the next,
but still rather on the steady side.

A few minutes later, over on newly groomed Erik Guay, a gap in
the heavy thickness, but still steady snow. By the way, Erik Guay
has very fine high performance grip, the dryness that was in the
Big Bumps here has completely survived into the integrated groomed
blend and the traction was almost flawless. There was even a wind
induced up-wash of surface propelled snow that was enhancing the
traction. Quite special and loads of fun!

There were noticeable accumulations on the trails, and overall the new snow
certainly did bump up the grip level for turning energy simply because with
more snow to “Bank” your turns on, you could set a reliable edge and harness
just about as much lateral force as you had muscle for.

Of course, there are still some minor exceptions where the very odd
icy bit is lurking under thinner top layers of the new snow, but if your
gear is in good tune you may not notice them at all. If you have dull
edges, you may experience the odd “Whoops!!!” moment.

There is a HUGE amount of active trail development for the weekend
public. Below is a great example on Versant Nord/North Side Beauchemin
Haut, Upper. We’ve shown scenes from the bottom, here’s one from the
Summit at La Crete to give you an idea of how close they are to Open.
We address the weekend regarding the 24Hour Children’s Charity Marathon
Fundraiser and extra open terrain for the public to offset the course requirements
below, in the main body of today’s post.

We continue to promote the study of race training exercises and
drills for the totally transferable benefit to recreational Skiing technique.

From a Beginners Snowplow, to an Experts Gate Crashing... Racers Do It All!!!

Race teams from around the region come to Tremblant every year
at this time because they KNOW they will have reliable training terrain.
If you pay attention to their drills and exercises, you can pick up a
lot of useful technique to step up your own skills.

For Tomorrow...

Overcast, a high of -5C and a moderate Nor-West wind
rising up the Mountain over Beauvallon and McCulloch.
Still easy with the combination of temps and moderate
winds, but, be ready for the Summit breezes to be more
active.

We can tell you for a fact that there was more natural snowfall
accumulation on the ground in many areas than the 1cm Official
stat. For example, anyone riding up the Nord/North Duncan Quad
has been able to see the “Test Tracks” of bushwhackers trying the
white, wide open expanses of the unopened Duncan Haut, Upper
and Devils River Trails. By last run yesterday, a lot of those tracks
were almost completely filled in and there were visible accumulations
in drifting zones that we estimated at around 7cm’s.

We had called for significant snowfall fill-in over the Summit to the
Upper Nord/North with the indicated wind direction and we believe
that is exactly what happened. You could feel it building underfoot
on the upper North open trails as you skied, from when it started
snowing just before noon, right up till last run.

As our headline tries to point out, Mountain Crews Night Shift of
grooming is going to be the the most influential component of what
we think will be excellence in these blended surfaces of groomed
and natural within all Open Trails, but owing to the abundance of
the natural there, especially sweet today within the upper North side.

Weather Notes:

Regardless of the Official Accumulation Stat’s, the snow that
has fallen over the length, width, and height of Tremblant,
has been very beneficial for all skill levels of users and terrain.
By this forecast, that rate of improvement is likely to continue
to variable degrees as we see the rest of this active system play
out. As we have pointed out elsewhere in this post, we have already
seen differences between Official overall stats and localized rates
of accumulation and we think those differences will continue to
favour certain Mountain Sectors.

Conditions Notes:

The start of every new season always sees rapid evolution
within the Open Terrain and this year has been a good example
with reference to the trails opened with Snowmaking Big Bumps.
McCulloch was the first to be converted to groomed from raw
big bumps, and today we have the second significant example,
Sud/South, Trail # 12 Erik Guay.

Last night, while we happened to be up, a peek at the Tremblant.ca
Web Cams showed this scene below. Instantly, we understood that
Erik Guay was being groomed. For those not familiar enough with
Tremblant, the groomers super-bright lights visible here are on
upper Erik Guay, and that could only mean one thing.

We must also say for the record here, the bumps on Erik Guay were
substantially different, and substantially easier to navigate, than the
big bumps that were on McCulloch. It could be for any number of
physical reasons like the humidity or temps they were formed at,
for only 2 examples, but the point is, they were softer and easier to
ski through.

Now that it’s been groomed, we’re looking forward to seeing how the
final product has been finished, especially so with the natural snowfall
yesterday brought before the grooming started last night. It should be
Great!

Otherwise, the whole Mountain should see a benefit from both yesterday’s
snowfall as well as what is similarly forecast to arrive today. Tremblant has
overall great conditions with a hallmark of smoothness and consistency of
base quality that basically covers its entire open footprint.

It’s Just Around The Corner...

Nansen’s entire 6 Kilometers is not far away. You can enjoy the upper
half, pictured above from yesterday, right now. Nansen Haut, Upper,
Trail # 3, is one of the very finest places you can go in Eastern North
America to build your Skiing and Boarding Skills this early in the season.

Tremblant continues to develop a large number of trails
to significantly expand the Open Terrain for the benefit of
recreational Skiers/Boarders not involved with the upcoming
24Hour Children’s Charity Marathon Fundraiser.

The Versant Nord, North Side Expo Sector has one of the largest
visible concentrations of development, so we think you might see
weekend Openings here take the Total Open Trail numbers up over
30(?) by Saturday morning. We could be wrong but if you look at
years past, Mountain Op’s always has a big jump up in Open Trails
for the 24Hr. Event Weekend to beneficially compensate the Public
who are just out for a day on the slopes.

they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
