T360 Late Eve. Apres Ski Edit Under Construct @ 10:53 P.M.

Lets start with the performance:

You could do this... all day.... everywhere.

There’s No Question... That’s it.

There was a significant level of refinement in the Groomed
surfaces today that was universal across all Skill level rated
terrain. Additionally, Mother Nature blew a little breeze that
cooked out practically all the sticky bits and the whole Mountain
was noticeably faster today.

The Scenery Was Spectacular.

From Grey Overcast With Transient Snow Showers...

To partially Sunny with visible snow squalls moving across the horizon.

You could literally watch the “Weather’ moving.

There were quiet moments in the wind sheltered, Lee-sides of the Mountain
where the combination of gorgeous views and near flawless surfaces seemed
very close to perfect.

102/102(*) Open Trails on all 4 Sectors at #Tremblant .

Mother Nature Keeps On Adding More Snow,
4cm’s in this case.

As much as we’d like to see a good old fashioned Blizzard,
we are content to have these overnight, incremental additions
that have been the predominant form of accumulation so far.

From a mechanical or clinical point of view, they are better
assimilated into the base over the Groomed trails as each
new layer can be efficiently packed to desirable density on
one pass. In the Sous Bois/Glades, like this first example below,
it has added a very nice cushion of smoothness over the pre-existing
base that also has a functional advantage of a hint of friction to offset
gravity for easier control. We think that should all be similar today.
We think the surface performance is tied to the humidity and close
proximity of the temps to just below Zero C, so in simple terms,
there is dampness in the new snow.

Even at an Official 4cm’s, there was enough of the new snow
during Open Hours yesterday to generate surface thickness
in many wind shaped zones of deposit. Some of those zones
were showing tracked irregular surfaces, but even with Sunday
traffic, the Groomed Base trails were practically mogul resistant
all day, up to and including last run, so all good.

Groomed Performance Summary:

This should tell you 98% of what you need to
know about the average level of Groomed Trail
performance for today:

The wee bit of friction here was just enough to make sweeping
carved turns down the entire descent line of Rigodon, easy.
Offsetting gravity to even a tiny degree adds a huge feeling
of control confidence, and make no mistake, it’s still fast by
any standard.

Snow Filtered Fun!

Not much in the way of panoramic vista’s, but as usual,
what’s not so great for photography is great for Skiing!

Conditions Notes:

The new snow has variable degrees of running friction
which for the most part, just meant a slight feeling of
less glide on plateaus. The wee bit of noticeable resistance
made steeper slopes seem easier because it gave you more
natural control over speed, so in general, we would call
it good for Skiers while Board Fans had to pump their
Boards a bit to traverse lesser inclines.

We expect those factors to be similar today, but the big
advantage should be to the slopes that got freshly groomed
as the compaction on those surfaces typically yields the highest
levels of speed that are directly related to compressed
surface density.

You will know that almost instantly where ever you encounter
the left over tracks through yesterdays new snow as opposed
to the brand new Corduroy of First Tracks this morning.

In the Sous Bois, Glades, Hors Piste, Moguls and Un-Groomed,
all new snow is welcome, and conditions are generally quite good.
There are some natural hazards within the more popular descent lines
so in those areas, your initial explorations need to be at cautious speeds
because the new snow may have been enough to cover, but not thick
enough to be a barrier, so line-of-sight from bump to bump at reduced
speed is necessary if you want to avoid solid contacts.

There are still some untracked lines, but you need to travel farther
and usually laterally farther out to find them.

One huge advantage for all Open Terrain today is going to be
the comparatively very light Week-day traffic. All the Week-end
Warriors are back home at “Theirville”, for the most part, trying to
cut back on calories today after pigging out on unhealthy “Super Bowl”
party food, so the lucky few that are here today should feel as though
the Mountain is very quiet.

This first couple of weeks of February are usually
the last of the Official Low Season we call value
weeks, so if you can spontaneously get away for
Ski days, now is one of the very best times to have
all the benefit of mature seasonal trail coverage
with the light traffic before the School/Spring
Break/Reading Weeks/Prime Ski Holiday period starts.

You can go back 10 years through this record and
you will find similar references all the way through
for this time slot and it continues to be a very high
value now, for exactly the same reasons.

February is the Heart of the Winter at Tremblant.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
