Fantastic Expert Fun Everywhere...
Beginners/Intermediates, Stick To Groomed To Start With.
18cm’s of Official new snowfall will not be exactly the same
everywhere. Some areas will drift in a lot more, some
wind-exposed zones, less. Experts will have unlimited fun
in all categories, but for those who are not legitimate
Experts, remaining in matched Skill Level terrain will be
key for all initial descents until you have confirmed safe
passage. These rapid depth accumulation conditions can
make for tracked thickness in Un-Groomed terrain that
requires Expert only skills for safety.
The active weather is from a Texas Low, and the predominant
wind direction has been Nor-East, so rising up the Mountain
over Versant Nord, North Side Trail # 72, P’tit Bonheur and
crossing the Summit diagonally, towards the Soleil Sector.
The wind was not excessive, but there were definite fluctuations
in velocity, so there are going to be “Swirl Zones” where the
conical shape and contours of the Mountain have generated
“Back-Filled” drift-in depths that should have some impressive
deposits.
On the Groomed trails, so far, the new snow packs quite well
and if there is any sort of resistance to it, that comes from the
loft/depth of the accumulations and not from any inherent humidity.
In this surface sample below, taken on lower Nansen, you can see
the snow has very good shear characteristics, so basic control
moves like “Snowplow”, wedge or pie-shaped actions are very
easy to initiate as skis can slide laterally with no stickiness
or sideways resistance at all. So far, it’s like this everywhere.
2.6.20.Sud.South.Nansen.Bas.Lower.Snow.Surface.Sample.Crest.Below.LaPasse.c.jpg
If you are a confident Beginner or Intermediate, this is
very good snow to get some powder experience with due
to its airy, dry, lightness.
Weather Notes:
Temp and wind wise, a very easy and snowy winter day during
Open Hours, however the passage of this Texas Low off to the
East is going to allow cold arctic air to be drawn into the region
for a rather dramatic drop in temps for tomorrow. If you are
part of the Weekend group, you’ll need to be ready for that.
Hazardous Driving Alert:
Blowing and drifting snow can generate sudden White-out conditions.
Do Not Tailgate. Allow extra following distance and 2 X extra time for
all regional commutes.
If you’re new to powder snow skiing...
These Are Great Days For Lessons!
Like any other specialized environment, skiing deeper
snow has it’s own unique tactics and tricks, so the quickest
way for Beginners or Intermediates to shorten the learning
curve to “Fun”, is to get a lesson from Tremblant’s Ski School!
2.6.20.Summit.Snowy.Lessons.With.Colours.Of.Fun.b.jpg
Conditions Notes:
Abundant, Thickly Falling Snow Generates Additional
Challenge For Everyone. Period.
Experts:
Have Safe Fun Everywhere!
Beginners and Intermediates:
For today, it’s a highly evolutionary day of developing accumulations.
Things could get thick as the day progresses, so it’s essential to
be aware how the new snow is effecting your ability to stay safe
without catching edges, or your ability to control speed in tracked
thickness where directional and/or braking moves become more
difficult to initiate. Default Down In Trail Challenge To Start.
Work Up Safely. This amount of accumulation can be prone to
Mogul formations practically anywhere, so if you see or feel moguls
are affecting your ability in any way, slow down and default to lesser
steepness immediately because mogul growth can happen quickly
once it starts.
For Tomorrow(Sat.):
The upside range of potential snowfall at 25cm’s could
result in a seriously excellent Expert Powder Morning for Saturday!
As far as the Sous Bois, Glades, Hors Piste, and all other
Un-Groomed, this potential could be a significant “Game Changer”
in the sectors with favourable drifting.
Please Note:
A) With the indicated North to Nor-West wind directions, look for
extra drifted snow above the Official totals in Edge, Lowell Thomas
and Soleil Sectors for Saturday morning.
B) As one of the biggest elevations in the region, Tremblant
frequently generates more snow than base level forecasts
due to its ability to make its own weather. Anecdotally, we
would consider that to be quite probable now with the observations
we have seen in similar, previous active weather events comparable
to this current Meteorological profile. We could be wrong, but it sure
is falling hard and fast. Stay tuned...
