Regional Tremblant Fans Who Have Discretionary Planning
For Monday- Feb. 10, 2020:
From “Wild” to “Mild”... Too Easy!!!
Go If You Can!

102/102(*) Open Trails on all 4 Sectors at #Tremblant .
If we could show you “Cold”, this is how it looks...
2.9.20.PB1220.Versant.Soleil.Quad.Views.Intangible.Cold.Sample.c.jpg
Of course... no camera on Earth can capture the real feeling
of very cold, except where you see a bit of a “Hazy” appearance
over topographical contours. When it’s sunny like this, looking
up, the sky overhead has an incredibly deep blue depth that
gives you the impression you’re looking at the edge of space.
When you inhale, you have to do so carefully as a real rush
of -33C is instantly felt by either nose or mouth as a very
direct, borderline, but not quite painful, piercing sensation that
you can only do for a very limited time without a full face mask.
It’s a totally unique experience.
Technically, Unique Ski/Board Conditions At First Tracks.
So what begins to happen at temps below about -28C, is that
the way Skis and Boards work normally, stops. Normally, the
edges of your Skis/Board generate a molecular thin layer of
friction generated lubricating water, but when that stops in
extreme cold, the friction rate you feel underfoot can jump
up, to the point that it can feel like skiing on sand.
This can be thrilling on the very steepest of Trails like
# 13, “Vertige” and #14, “Zig-Zag”, where the unusual
friction facilitates remarkable control, however on low
pitch angels, i.e., “Green” trails, it can add extra effort
to maintaining forward motion.
Thankfully, the temps are forecast to rise by some 21/22 degrees C
by around lunch hour, but until they do... Beware.
Weather Notes:
(#) These Temps Are A Statistical Anomaly.
Conditions Caveat:
It’s -33C out there...
You may want to defer your initial start
until the temps begin to rise. Only those
with proven insulation layers for this degree
of cold should attempt outdoor activity.
We recommend that Children be kept inside.
Please Note: Actual Temperature is colder than forecast value
by -4C, as indicated by “Cold Weather Warning” posted above:
(#)These temp’s are a statistical anomaly. They have extended
southward over large portions of the Eastern half of the North
American Continent to the Florida(U.S.A.) border, where 4
inches of snow fell in the great state of Georgia yesterday.
We include regional perspectives for the expressed purpose
of future readers here who may be reviewing this in August/Sept.,
and are looking at this time period for sample conditions experience
in order to make a Ski Holiday booking. From that standpoint, it’s
important to know that temps this cool are not usual, but they can
happen anywhere on the East Coast cool enough to support a “Ski Resort".
Conditions Notes:
Very complex day with rapidly evolving conditions and hazards
generated by initial -33C temps rising over 22 degrees C upwards,
to end up around -11 C.
Conditions will likely start out with groomed surfaces having high
levels of friction, however at around 10:00 A.M., as the Solar energy
begins to work and air temps rise, the performance characteristics
could change favourably on a run by run basis.
The least effected terrain categories are the un-tracked Sous Bois,
Glades, Hors Piste, where 48cm’s of Official new snowfall in the
past couple of days should retain it’s light, airy loft and descending
through it may actually cause enough joy that you might forget how
cold it is for a while.
The real, overall, average Mountain User-Friendly potential for today
begins practically at somewhere between 12:00 Noon and 1:15 P.M.
when the ambient air temp is capable of overcoming the retained
frost in the top layers of trail surfaces and the edges of your Skis
and Boards can work normally again.
There will be literally a “Moment” on Versant Sud/South and Soleil
Sectors were groomed trail surfaces seem to spring into life,
in-so-far-as “Glide” is concerned. It is possible that within a run or two,
what may have felt like “Velcro”, now feels like “Greased Lightning”.
If you are well enough protected, it can actually be a fascinating
experience to go through the cryogenic stages of Snow performance,
and a unique opportunity to witness first hand, the Laws Of Physics
that are directly applicable to only the coolest ranges of function the
average human will ever work with.
