T360 Prime-Time Mid-Eve. Apres Ski Edit, under construct at 9:08 P.M.

(Please Note: For the Versant Nord/North, Trail #66, “Le Tunnel”
case study, scroll down to that content in the Orig. Post below.)

For this Apres Ski addition, we’re going to take a 180 degree
look at our Versant Sud/South Side Trail Case Study, # 13, Vertige,
from the POV in the main post below in order to put it in “Big Picture”
locational perspective for those who may not be familiar with Tremblant.
Oddly enough, “180” here, from “180” below, adds up to a real “Tremblant360” !!!

First, a short introduction beginning with a total Versant Sud/South Side
Mountain overview:

Considering the sunrise temp at -33C... the entire Mountain got “Cryo-Cooked”,
which is a slang term we’ve made up to describe the effects of cold shock to
fresh snow. All this is incidental though, the snow was great to begin with,
after a cold treatment, it gets better. Perhaps just as importantly, the cold
typically keeps traffic “Light”, because the weekday regional’s/locals do not
usually come out in big numbers, so for the purposes of this extension of
the Vertige pics below, if not similar, the quality should be a notch up.

Looking above, Vertige is the Summit right-side of the “Y” shaped trail,
immediately below the Summit Flag/Observation deck.

Below is a zoom-in close-up:

The pic’s in the orig. post below, the Info.Ski Team member is descending
down what would be the right side of the trail in these Apres Ski pic’s.
Vertige is one of about a dozen Double-Black Diamonds at Tremblant,
but we think it is one of the top 3 steepest challenges. It is not a run
that you’re going to take your Intermediate friends you dragged out
for the day on.

What we have right now is enough snow to make it as forgiving as
it ever will be for top level Experts. Just look at the flying soft snow
in the Vertige action shots below. There’s just enough bulk and depth
there to act as an energy absorber as the turning force is so obviously
displacing so much snow.

(Please also see our review extension of Nord/North “Le Tunnel”
in the orig. post below.)

this pictured trail below.)

The Skiing Is Fabulous!

However...

3:40 A.M. Early Bird Cold Weather Alert:
-30C ? -29C?, at these numbers, it simply
does not matter by a degree or three... it’s cold.

---------- Insert Update/Conditions Caveat: ---------------

Please Consider Keeping Young Children Indoors Until Temps Rise
To Safe Levels For Sustained Outdoor Exposure.

At 6:45 A.M. the needle on the old reliable analogue Thermometer
just touched -35C. If it’s not the coldest morning of the season, it’s
certainly close to it, but thankfully, temps forecast to rise quickly
and under a brilliantly sunny sky!

----------------------------------------------

For All The Brave And Bold Grownups...

Dress for it and enjoy some of the very best Skiing performance
you’ll ever have!

Here is a 3 pic. descent sequence on Versant Sud/South Side Trail # 13,
“Vertige” which is one of the 3 steepest pitch angled trails at Tremblant.
When it’s like this, some of the locals even call it as “Little-Utah” as
a direct reference to the similarities to the great Western Skiing you
can experience here at Tremblant today.

What we want to point out is the great abundance of retained natural
snow in a location that is very sensitive to a thing called “Gravity” that
typically causes things to move downward, so... when there’s enough
snow here that “Gravity” does not matter, you KNOW there are TON’S of
snow, not only here, but everywhere else!

Moving from Versant Sud/South Side, case study above, to
Versant Nord/North Side, case study, below:

An Ongoing Tremblant Trail Case Study:
Versant Nord, North Side, Lowell Thomas Sector
Trail # 66, Le Tunnel.

We have written extensively over the past several days about the
extraordinary level of groomed trail refinement with the current
abundance of recent natural snow accumulations. Most recently, we
have featured Versant Nord/North Side Trail # 66, Le Tunnel, located in
the Lowell Thomas Sector. This trail is rarely groomed and normally is left for
a mogul zone where the huge bumps would eat your quad muscles for lunch.

Today, right now, it is a groomed masterpiece, and a brilliant example
of how radically different, almost infinitely better(in our opinion(@)), and
certainly, exponentially more useable by the broad range of all skiers,
that a trail can become when prepared in this exquisitely fine condition.

Even though there are millions of tiny airborne snow-filters here, if this picture
below does not convince you of its Groomed User Friendly quality, nothing will,
either that or you are most unfortunately, clinically blind.

Groomed.Near.Perfect.Smooth.Sweet.Descent.c.jpg

(Looking down, from mid-point. Please Note, this pic.
is not staged. We do not know or meet the Skiers here, this was
the random long-view as we came over the top crest to descend.)

As A Diagnostic Element, This Trail Groomed Represents
A Supreme Level Of Total Mountain Refinement.

The significance of this level of trail development can not be overstated,
especially now that the Sous Bois, Glades, Hors Piste et al, surrounding
this descent line are “Open" and provide almost endless satisfaction for
the Bush Freaks/Mogul Hounds who rarely use the Official trail any more anyway.

Now, a whole new, and exponentially larger group of recreational Skiers
and Nature Lovers(who have previously been so intimidated by its large
bump reputation that they never go there), can easily use it, and discover
both its magical, spectacular scenery, as well as its very rhythmic, undulating,
topographical descending contours... That Are Not Evident Unless It Is Groomed.
Period.

(@)
A very large point of Le Tunnel's technical merit when it is in
this condition is that due to its architecturally perfect fall-line,
with its current finished width, and over its consistently smooth
length, it becomes a “Self-Induced” Teacher for aspiring learners
with well established, fundamental turning skills.

It does this by compelling a rhythmic, alternating, side-to-side,
“Parallel-style” turning sequence within its boundaries, and over
its length. This results in a quickly established, highly repetitive
pattern. So, what seems challenging in the first few turns, becomes easy
and natural by the time you’ve done dozens of alternating symmetrical
repeats when you’ve reached the bottom. It is nothing less than perfectly
focused practice that morph’s into perfectly focused fun. In this way,
it quickly makes its users better Skiers.

Just as remarkable, with Expert supervision and when groomed,
any confident Intermediate can experience a huge acceleration of
their learning curve on Le Tunnel, literally on a run by run basis.

Please forgive our enthusiasm, you simply need to go there as soon
as your Skis can take you, and experience the complete technical
attributes of this trail as groomed terrain for the broadest possible
range of Skill sets who can now benefit from its surface excellence
and its surreal natural beauty.

Otherwise...
The snow itself is a very fine, as in small, and very dry, crystalline
particle that has almost effortless, very low friction glide characteristics.
Skiing down Versant Nord/North side Beauchemin Bas, Lower, to get over
to the Duncan Quad, only required one quick skating step, and Whooosh....
that was all it took to glide right into the Duncan lift gate. That’s Quick!
